Hey Folks,

Was listening to some or other great mind a couple of weeks ago and he said something about "the weight of ideology" and a new song was born. The style is (believe it or not) _BUBLPOP.STY (21st Century Radio) which seems a little funny given the political statement, so I had to roughen up the band a bit. I think it ended up working out okay. No harmonies on this one. Maybe I'll revisit that later.

Soundcloud

RealTracks in style: 1929:Synth, Bass, EuroDance VerseBass Ev 120
RealTracks in style: 1861:Synth, Rhythm, EuroDance ChorusHousePianoOffBeat Ev16 120
Loop in Song: HipHop\Old School - la_flava_beat93a drums ev16.wav
RealTracks in song: 1532:Guitar, Electric, Soloist PopPower Ev 120 (added echo and reverb)
RealDrums in style:SynthDrumsDanceRock^1-a: Bass and Snare , b: Snare and Bass

I replaced the 1861 synth above with RT1119 12-String Strumming Guitar.
Also added RT1744 Modern Dance Pop Rave Drops, an acoustic drum kit loop called Funkrock and one more guitar, RT 3442 BritPsychFunky.

Lyrics:

They try to weigh us down
with rocks of ideology
Tell us what to think
and play with our psychology
but we are not that different
And you are not my enemy
Want us bowing to the lie
and weakened in complacency

They couldn’t care less
have forgotten how to bless
They're a cancer in the masses
time to revoke their free passes
They may think we are stupid
That they have us in control
I'm here to say it isn't so

Their sick psychotic minds
their blackened, ugly souls
hold a dark collective shadow
that no one wants to know
we must face our pain and rise
We all know that [*****]’s insane
Want us fighting all their wars
by telling us who we should blame

They may think that they are winning
that they’re closer to their goal
But folks are waking up
the human heart will triumph
there’s no way to stop it
We're gonna be free
from their rocks of ideology

Appreciate anyone with thoughts on improving the mix or if you notice any glaring issues. Thanks!

Beth,

Love this! A new favorite for me. You have an incredible sound and tone to your voice - so original.

Great lyrics, band and mix.

Bubble Pop? shocked

A good protest song, I really like your lyrics.
The mix is good, maybe the vocals could be a little louder, after all, it's a protest song smile
I'm still a little undecided about the drum loop, it fits somehow, but it sounds a little too positive/upbeat for the message of the lyrics.

Beth - where did you find those rhythm guitar RealTracks - they are wonderful, and you've used them well. I almost felt a reggae swoon moment coming over me - almost. Also, that lead guitar choice and your mix of it at end/beginning of each verse glues them together well IMHO.

The lyrics remind me of something I heard someone say once - which I think is so relevant to so many viewpoints - you can't impose your truth on anyone - and so much of that has been done in the name of [ideology].

I didn't hear your sing asterisks, so I'm going back to listen to that section a few more times - just so you know in case the analytics are spiking in a specific section. smile

The only suggestion I could make if you're looking for one is maybe some kind of lead into the bridge to let us know something is about to change - but not sure what. This isn't a biggy.

Super concept, and nicely executed. That choppy rhythm guitar really does a cool rhythmic element. Nice job with integrating the guitar solos, too. Wonderful vocals, I didn't miss the backing vocals or harmonies, but I'm sure you'd make them shine as well.

Where did I find them? Painstakingly sampling one sample track after another after another after another. grin Funny you should mention reggae as I almost went that route after listening to your recent nod.

Wild thing...those asteriks. I didn't put them there. They must have been AI "corrected" on Soundcloud where I copied them from...or maybe the forum. Funny how words have so much power over people's reactions.

I need some clarity on the bridge suggestion...I didn't think I had one. What part are you considering to be the bridge?

My mistake Beth - please ignore that. I had been listening to the asterisk passage on repeat, so when I let it run through, it sounded to my ears like a bridge. However, I note this is a repeated musical section but with different lyrics. On several full listens again, there is nothing to change. It must’ve been a brain f@rt on my part. crazy

Brilliant protest song, plus you're really doing well with BiaB arrangements. There's only one theme where my view is different to the lyrics: "They may think we are stupid / That they have us in control"; ie: they do have the majority in control. A couple of months ago the WEF openly stated that the 'pandemonic' was a great success in worldwide population control; plus now the WHO can order numerous nations to go into lockdowns the next time around. In the UK a team at Bristol University did an impact assessment of the 'pandemonic' and concluded that 400% more damage was caused by the lockdowns than had there been none, but it's highly likely to happen again and the majority will go along with it.

#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Beth, an outstanding protest song. Loved those guitar tracks and a great backing band. If I could make one suggestions it would be to bring up the vocals. IMHO the vocals should be up front and heard by all in a protest song. YMMV
Loved the song.

OK, a random thought;

Great intro, that lead guitar sound gives this an instantly recognizable feel and the rhythm is catchy. Original title and great lyrics, in the swim of current political climate, angry but with strong desire for emancipation. And that positive attitude is nicely present in the bubbling band. Great vocals, harmonies would be nice to give emphasis to certain sections of the song, maybe even with repeating the title, to remind us of the "rocks".

Thanks, Chay. I won't go into details in response to keep things light here. But I will say that what we focus on tends to expand, so rather than focusing on the majority who are, I prefer to think about/address the minority who aren't. It only takes a certain minority to change everything.

Janne, I really like that idea of harmony just on the "rocks of ideology" line. Gonna play with that. Thanks.

Beth,

Cool use of a type of BIAB style that we don't hear much in the Showcase.
And cool "roughing up".

The juxtaposition of light Pop music and "heavy" message works!

Enjoyed this.

Excellent vocal and lyric. Backtrack instrumentation was perfect for your lyric and vocal. Well done..
