Yes indeed. Eastside Eddie Vidmar. He's doing well. Most of you will remember him. He was a fixture around here some time ago. He came to my farm a few years ago and was actually the driving force behind the Herbfest event that is tagged in this showcase. It's the second post from the top.... A reunion event.
Anyway, even though he left the group here for personal reasons, we've kept in touch. He's quite a talented writer. Late last year he reached out to me about a song he had written but wanted something better than what he had done. It's taken a while to get to it but it is done. So everything is by Eddie. He wrote the lyrics and the melody and sent me a rough demo asking if I could put my touch on it with my studio band and production chops.

Isolation

Have a listen. I can relate to the lyrics. These days my circle of friends is really small and I like it like that. My wife, two dogs, and family when they come to visit.

The band is my Kill Branch Studio band. The singers are Jason, Blake, and Brandon. (All AI) Jas is on the lead and B&B are harmony. I played the piano fills and had considered doing more but time constraints interfered.

Lyrics:

I was standing at the edge of nowhere.
In a place that had no name.
And whether I looked up, or I looked down
The view was exactly the same.

It was a peaceful place with a quiet calm
Like nothing I'd ever seen
I started to think that I'd found a place
No man had ever been

I was captured by the moment.
As I sat there all alone.
And I said is this what heaven will be.
When the good lord calls me home.

Isolation. Seems to really be kind of great.
I'd rather live in this solitude.
Than in a world so full of hate.
Desolation. In this place so calm and pure.
The world just seems like the ill to me.
And it seems like there's no cure.

The wind it whispered softly
With a voice so faint and low
Carrying tales of forgotten dreams
And secrets I'll never know

The ground beneath me felt so still.
Like the world had stopped its spin.
No clock to chase, no race to run.
A quiet freedom from within.

I was captured by the moment.
As I sat there all alone.
And I said is this what heaven will be
When the good lord calls me home.

Isolation. Seems to really be kind of great.
I'd rather live in this solitude.
Than in a world so full of hate.
Desolation. In this place so calm and pure.
The world just seems like the ill to me.
And it seems like there's no cure.

Enjoy and feel free to comment.

Really nice production and strong vocals. Country isn’t my thing, but still appreciate a great sound and a song full of meaning. Excellent.

Herb, interesting tune in a classic style. Really nicely put together. Not familiar with Kill Branch Studio band...is there any BiaB in there? Lead vocals are a perfect fit. Must have missed Eastside Eddie, but he writes a nice tune.

Hi Herb,
Well, I can really relate to this one. When I first moved to the French country side, I sure did miss the city. But now, going back into the crowds and noise literally causes pain. I so appreciate nature, the peacefulness, and the lack of neighbors disturbing my solitude. Anyway, beautifully written and a lovely melody.

The KBSB is in fact Band in a Box.... Eddie used a date with his name when he was here.

Thanks for listening

Herb,

That sounds great. It kind of has Eddie's cadence and vocal approach. Very nicely done.

Well, that an excellent song and with lyrics I can relate to. too. It sounds like Eddie had an experience which inspired it.

Gentlemen, this is a perfect example of what country should sound like.
Great arrangement, synth vocals, instrumentation, and mix.
Loved it.

PS - tell Eddie I said hi.

I get most of my exercise these days from shaking my head in disbelief.

A special quality to this one, Herb. Excellent lyrics, and like you, I find them very relatable. Some of the isolation is forced, some because a lot of friends have died, most by chioce.

Instrumenation is also special here. Well mixed, too. I love the force the pedal and harp bring to the song, and how the honky-tonk piano has the last word. I wasn't here to hear Eddie, but now I wish he'd come back. Glad he got one to the right guy, Herb.

Enjoy whatever happens!
