Hello Music-Makers, While I work on fixing Ideology, I thought I'd go ahead and share my latest project. I wrote the lyrics eons ago...maybe 2002 or so. I had the melody in my head all these years, and BIAB finally made it possible to bring it to life. The song arose as part of a long healing journey and it feels very good to bring it to fruition. I hope it inspires others to think about where they came from, but also to realize that none of us are bound by the past. Yadda...yadda... I'm super please with the band! I'm always appreciative of comments to help improve anything. Soundcloud Style is =AGRASCL.STY (Slow Ballad Strummed Guitar) Style MIDI Instruments are : Finger Electric Bass (34), Acoustic Piano (1), RealTracks in style: 625:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Rascal Sw 075 RealDrums in style:NashvilleSwing16^4-a:HiHat, Sidestick , b:Snare, Hihat Added: RT 3140 Mandola RT 3663 Dulcimer RT 2503 Piano RT 2485 Bass RT 1757 Accordian Loop: Chilly Night _80 Percussion Lead vocals are doubled (too much??) Lyrics: Puppeteer to a king The raising of sheep Escaping the slums Emotions run deep Some rich and some poor The foods and the dance A history of stories An ancestral trance Endurance and courage Survival and fear Their hopes and their dreams And shadows draw near Not as real as we seem We were dreamed into being We sing the creation The ancestral dream Family secrets Deep family ties Our fate to heal them And follow their cries Bring light to their darkness Love to their shame Live in integrity Let go of the blame With each of their gifts And wisdom too Fulfill every prayer And dream something new Not at big as we think Nor as small as we pretend We have to awaken For the dream to end May we fulfill the hopes you had for us May we heal your sickness too May we recognize the doors you open With hearts open as we walk through

Hi Beth! Yes, I love that RealStyle! It has a syncopated feel to it that gives the music a sense of motion and compliments the theme of the lyrics - being carried forward through generations. Because that rhythmic strumming is ever present, if you were looking for some texture, you could replace with a series of single held strums in one section and then bring it back in again, musically representing as it were the ebbs and flows of life.
I find it interesting that lyrically the song is about ancestral influence and journeying therefrom, and your lyrics have sat unused from your own past, but now to rise in song - sort of a parallel story on two levels.
For your last line and outro, it gave me the impression of walking through that door into a place beyond the listener but a new chapter yet to be heard. I’m not sure if this is what was intended, but that’s how it came across to me. Good song!
Andrew

100% Beth & 100%, Beth. I agree with Bob Dean. I particularly love the lines, "May we fulfil the hopes you had for us / May we heal your sickness too".
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Beth I also agree with Bob, don't change a thing. Your vocal is very strong and melodic, loved the harmonies and backing vocals. Super backing band and a great mix. Loved it.

Beth,
A song filled with good, thoughtful lines.... "May we recognize the doors you open With hearts open as we walk through"
An ethereal BAND. Cool choices. Cool Sound. As Chay said..."100% Beth". Glad that you and BIAB found each other...

Beth, lovely song and beautifully sung. That's a neatly soothing BiaB band you've employed, and a perfect fit for the song. No, the lead vocals aren't doubled too much, nor do I think more is needed. I'm voting with the "don't change a thing" folks. Nice one!

Hi, Beth. Stopped by the other day just to read your lyrics. That was enjoyable and rewarding. You really created the best musical accompaniment to them. I imagined the melody as I read, but the one you created is much more inspirational sounding.
We have to awaken For the dream to end
That's the couplet that really got me.

Hi, Beth, The band sounds good, as do you! It's always nice to hear when someone's finally able to bring an old song to life. Loved the "la"s - they work really well. I was going to quote the same line Marty did. Nice work!

I'm very behind in responding and listening. So allow me to catch up now...
Bob - thank you! Andrew - that outro did the job, then! I like your idea about changing the guitar strum. I'm feeling overwhelmed with other stuff at the moment, but if I get some energy, I'd like to explore that idea. Chay - thank you! Mario - so glad you enjoyed it! Floyd - Thanks! and I'm glad too. Ray - noted on the la's Ron - thank you! Marty - glad that the words struck you David - Yay! thank you!

All sounds good---excellent work with the production. You voice always reminds me of the female vocalists from the 60s, which is a good thing. Pleasant BGVs.

BYOBand:
This all sounds good to me. No, I don’t think the vocals are doubled to much—they actually work super well, with some lovely accents (those “la, la, las” are very slick) and harmonies on the BGVs. Really pretty song! Excellent work on this one!!
