Hi All,

Joliz has the day off. smile

Here's something called Dreamin' Of A City.

I was dreamin’ of a city
Where the buildings live forever
Some brick and steel painting
Like a shadow and an echo

Middle of October
Sky gettin’ colder
Wind hittin’ harder
Like it’s tryin’ to tell ya somethin’

The streetlights sputter sermons
mm-hmm
And it kinda makes me nervous
uh-huh

Well some folks speak a language
The city don’t wanna learn
Written in the alleys
And the barrels that still burn

Drill gang on the corner
Spittin’ like a drummer
But the bullets still fly
Just chasin’ down the summer

I was dreamin’ of that city
Dreamin’ of that sorrow
Clock says it’s October
But it’s already tomorrow

Hi Bob!
Brilliant.
Firstly, that funky rhythm that’s marching along - gives me the impression of unstoppable momentum like time or life. Those lead guitar flourishes with reverb sound city-ish and help paint the picture - when it all dropped into the solo, awww - that sounded good. The contrast of the electric piano to the busyness of the rhythm. And that fade out - anything else would’ve been a sin.

I read the lyrics twice to see if I could understand meaning, and all I could understand is there were a series of observations of city life from different circumstances on the edge of winter with the warmth of summer/spring fading … and isn’t that how life is? A series of observations made by us, and it is our observations that connect it all - our participation through our observations and our shared settings.

This was a treat to listen to.

Great rhythm section in this groovy urban poetry song. For me evoked Chicago rather than NY. This verse popped into my mind
Poet on the sidewalk
Singing when others talk
Lots of bullets soon fly by
Mowing down the hecklers!

Bob, that's some tastiliciously funky guitar contrast between the lead and rhythm guitars. Different feel from your recent posts but still you and still a scintillating listen. Nice vocals and mixed perfectly to my ears. Very cool.

Hi Bob,

Your music is self-defining. Five seconds in, and shouts "Bob Dean is here!".

A true Bob Dean production that speaks for itself. Your music is unique and so darn good! I'm always in awe of what you post.

Really nice Bob,

It’s sultry, it’s moody, great atmosphere. Each part is really clean and clear, and holds their space in the mix. Lovely guitar playing. Loved it.

Hi Bob.

I love this funky groove. It caught me unawares and I was pleasantly surprised. As always, your lyrics are a powerhouse of amazing imagery. You have a knack for being able to create phrases that really capture a listener's imagination. I admire your skill greatly.

Thanks for another great musical journey.

Great groove, reminds me of Steely Dan. So nice to notice that you can change the style and adjust it to your persona. Excellent arrangement - I enjoy how the solo guitar fills the non-vocal moments and also how you used your own voice to do the same. Your vocals really shine, bringing alive the city you are painting with your polished poetic touch. Each of your songs is a small masterpiece, finished to perfection as if effortlessly.

When I look at a plate of food I seem to unconsciously "see" my last bite, the best of the best with that aftertaste reminder it was a delicious meal.

When I came to the Showcase today, yours was the first post I saw, Bob, and now you know why I saved it for last. Yep, tasty alright. Savory, and the kind of song that makes the day better. Exclellent lyrics. The band is bigger on this one for sure, but all so perfectly matched to your song. Every one of your songs can be done in so many way, which is the sign of a good song. Love the groove you put to this one, and the bass is particularly supportive.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Another poetic BD classic. Liked the little grunts, and the line, "wind hittin' hard like it's trying to tell you something." You churn em out, but they're all earworthy.
