Rob,
When I first read the lyrics, I wondered what kind of tragic melody it would be sung to, and felt a little gloomy.
When I listened to the actual song, I found that it has a bright-sounding melody and is also about hope.
I haven't listened to the previous version so I can't compare them, but I think your vocals are absolutely wonderful.
I also like the title, "1959."
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

What a sad story, but you sang it impressively.
The background vocals weren't bad at all. Well, maybe the first time (a little bit), but I liked them.
Your voice is so low here, the background vocals "brightened" it up a bit...
And since you mentioned the word "Orphanage," I saw that the lyrics didn't need to rhyme, so that's solved then. I see Marty said the same thing.
"Orphanage" was also a possibility, but it has the same length, so no worries, as long as your tongue can handle it...

Your song is a great “true life” blues and reminded us both of hearing our parents talk about the hard times.
This is great:

The band, arrangement and mix sound excellent.
The nice open feel and subtle dynamics set us a engaging soundstage for us.
Your new vocal and the background vocals are perfecto for the vibe and write.

Bob...great story telling...love the style of this one...solid vocal...the lyric is clear and mixed well...the fiddle solo is well done with elements of the melody to make it fit perfectly...great listen!
