So Alan said in his latest post in the showcase that he was, so to speak, rolling the dice to pick a style. It got me thinking. Is anyone interested in a BIAB One Hour Music Festival? We can pick a day this month or next and then randomly land on a style, play with it for an hour in our own time that day, and then upload it to a shared thread on the forum. Who knows? Maybe it'll become a yearly thing like the 48-Hour Film Festival.

Beth, that's a good idea.
Maybe have one person pick a random style and everyone use it? It might be interesting to hear the various ideas that come from one style. It would be similar to KVR's monthly contests. Just a suggestion.

OK, a random thought;

Hi Beth! Great idea! I find that I respond well to an idea that someone else has generated as it helps me break my own shackles.
I’ll give it a go.

Great idea, Beth! PGMusic at one time sponsored a contest to create a song from new XtraStyles when they were released. My first post to any PGMusic forum was a submission to one of those contests, and though weird and improbable, my song won. Of course it's been all downhill since then...

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I don’t even think that fast anymore, let alone work that quickly.

Go ahead and have the little contest without me.

I remember a few events back in the old cakewalk forums. Very similar to what you suggested. The rules were.....

Everyone worked with the same exact lyrics written by an individual specifically for the event, and wrote the music they felt fit it best. Two weeks until time was up for entries and post it in a new thread with the title and your name. This resulted in around 12 songs that were rock, soul, blues, country, and more.

It was a lot of fun hearing the variety of songs that were posted.

Other ideas that were used in songwriter challenges were things like you're given the title or simply a topic.... Write the song.

I'll be watching this forum to see what comes of this

Ok, so clearly there's some interest. I'll make a clearer invitational post about it in the near future.

Kinda like speed-painting but for music. I like the randomness of the style roll too, keeps people from just sticking to their comfort zones
