Greetings Forum!

I actually cooked this one up last year and hesitated to share it on the forum. I've since reworked it adding harp and strings and an extra cello part and would appreciate your ears and comments. It's a nonduality mantra.

I Am That on Soundcloud

The style is New Age Balsam.
UPDATED to include the following style details:

2702 Bass I agree with BD, Tom, and Andrew so will be taking this out. Thanks, fellas!
3670 Piano
3230 Guitar
2704 Synth

And added:

2776 Harp
2507 String Quartet
2509 Cello

Lyrics:

Not what we seem
in God’s own dream
Ever radiant and undefiled

I am THAT I am THAT I am THAT I am

One Victorious Being
Beyond all meaning
Self-luminous All Seeing Eye

I am THAT I am THAT I am THAT I am

Truth will prevail
Supreme Lord we hail
We awaken in your glorious grace

Beyond THAT I am THAT I am THAT I am

Beth - this is very beautiful, reminded me within seconds of Deva Premal & Miten (known them for years on YT).
No need to add anything or take anything away - just very unique, as only you could do it!
Beautiful lyrics, vocals and mix!

Carl

Simple, beautiful, and ethereal.
Mantra-like, like something you would expect to hear in a church.
The combination of bass and drum loop from this (New Age Balsam) style sounds a little too busy.
I prefer the parts where they don't play, because that's where your beautiful voice comes into its own.

But apart from that, it's really, really beautiful [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Beth, gorgeous song, beautifully sung. Like the soft harmony vocal a lot, too. That's a nice (uncredited?) backing track, especially the pad thrumming underneath it all. The whispered part at the end is an especially cool touch. Just a nicely formed song any way you look at (or listen to) it. Super job!

Lovely and serene! Excellent work! My only feedback--I there's a bass part that kicks in around 2:20 with a sort of throbbing quality--I feel like it disturbed the serenity of the piece--just my taste. Otherwise, great work, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hi Beth!
Another calming song from you - helped greatly by the strings sitting underneath it all. The ‘bubbling bass’ in the chorus - sometimes it sounded good and other times a distraction - when I concentrated on it, I could see how it was working - so I’m not sure if it needs less or more of it?

I had to look up what non-dual mantra is (I’ve lived a sheltered life) so I can see how the chorus lyric fits that. Cool the way your repetitive words can start and finish with ‘I am’. Please excuse my hindsight epiphany.

I love this!

Andrew

When I opened thispost the first words I saw werre those of Tom (Tano Music): "Lovely and serene!" Yep, this is beautiful, Beth. The title reminds me of Saint Thomas Aquinas when it should bring up descartes instead. I really like in the lyrics how you emphasis the THATs because it's always the meaning I read in that phase. This is absolutely amazing in the write, the band, the production and especially the angelic voices throughout.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bob, thank you for your continuing encouragement.
Carl, how nice to have the Deva Premal & Mitten reference from you.
Floyd, thank you!
BD, thank you for using the words "simple, beautiful, ethereal".
Ron, thank you and I must update my post with the song memo!
Tom, thank you. I must relisten with your and BD's comments in mind.
Andrew, sheltered life. That made me chuckle.
Knee Wobbler, thank you for listening.
Marty, I am not so familiar with Aquinas and Descartes (other than the thinking so I am aspect which I always thought should be "I am therefore I think!)
You all warm my heart.

Hi Beth,

Yes, I believe you are too. And as Brain wrote, it sounds like a mantra.
Very well done, an original perspective. Fantastic!
I fear those words will remain in my mind for a long time: "I am that, I am that..."

Beth, what a fantastic song that you sung so beautifully.
Loved those lyrics. I can hear this being sung in every church in the world.
Perfect backing band and mix.
Loved it.

Greetings back, Beth

Thanks for bravely sharing 'I Am That' – a track that certainly lives up to its 'New Age Balsam' moniker, offering a delightful sonic balm for the soul. It's always a treat to hear a piece so clearly crafted with intention and a sense of spiritual purpose.

I'm not aware of the original to compare but the rework truly shines through; those added harp, strings, and extra cello part weave a wonderfully rich, ethereal tapestry. There’s a beautiful weight and depth to the arrangement creating a resonant foundation that feels both expansive and grounding. It gently washes over the listener (me), much like a peaceful tide, perfectly setting the stage for your nonduality mantra.

The lyrics, of course, are the heart of the piece, and they're delivered with a clear, unwavering focus. 'Not what we seem in God’s own dream' sets the tone beautifully, and the repetition of 'I am THAT' feels both deeply grounding and wonderfully expansive – a genuinely effective mantra.

Overall, "I Am That" is a beautifully crafted piece that achieves exactly what it sets out to do: soothe, uplift, and gently guide. It's a testament to the power of thoughtful arrangement and heartfelt intention. You hesitated to share last year, but I'm glad you didn't this time – consider this a very successful resurrection! It's the kind of track that makes you want to float rather than walk. Bravo!

My besties
Izzy.

Hi, Beth.

Lovely. That's all I need to say.

You wisely left the instruments out of the way of your voice, which is a standout here. smile

Beautiful song, Beth. Perfectly coolinstrumentation and arrangement for the potent lyrics. Though if I'd mixed it I'd have had the synth playing central as having it on the right makes the track right dominant. Having it centre would make the song sond warmer, too.
