Hi All,

Joliz has the day off. smile

Here’s something called TWILIGHT LINE.

I watched the sun go under
From the window of the train
City lights like scattered pearls
Through a fog of silver rain
Your voice on my shoulder
Soft as summer wine
I’m chasing down the distance
And the pictures in my mind
East of Indianapolis
On this twilight line

We dreamed of California
But never left the ground
I’m counting old postcards
From a life that’s coming around
There’s a rhythm in the window
Like the slow turn of time
And a ghost beside my shoulder
That I can’t leave behind
West of Illinois
On this twilight line

The dawn will find another town
And someone else’s sky
But I still see your shadow
Every time I close my eyes
And maybe love’s just distance
Measured over time
Between what was and what remains
On Hollywood and Vine
Going eastbound tonight
On this twilight line
Going eastbound tonight
On this twilight line

Bob, no idea how nine hours went by without a comment on this post, but happy to kick things off...

Another super song! Nifty narrative and deliciously leisurely melodic flow. Spot on vocals, as always. But that lead/fills guitar work is just...SUPERB! Very tasteful with a nice tone/FX chain. Nests into the tune perfectly, neither too much nor too little. Would love to hear more of your lead guitar work in the future (when it serves the song, of course).

Nice one!

Bob, another good 'un. I like that definition of love in the last stanza. Good guitar work, too. Is that an old Esquire? I was about to write "keep 'em coming," but nobody needs to tell you that. Great work!

Hi Bob,

I always enjoy listening to your creations and have run out of new things to say, except that I'm a fan.

Actually that's not quite true! After hearing you play acoustic recently and now playing electric lead on this, my question is why have you been holding out on us? wink
Mighty fine playing in my book, sounds great.

Really nice and full of mood and tension. Love the opening solo and fills, that guitar sounds really sweet.

Excellent, kind regards

Ron,

That's very kind of you on both the song and guitar playing. Much appreciated - thank you. I've played lead on a few others in the past and hope to do more.

Rob,

Thanks very much - I appreciate the kind review.

The Esquire is a newer Fender Custom Shop model. The Vintone amp was made in 2004 by a guy named Doug Stalters, who is no longer in business.

Gorgeous, Bob. Your voice is so emotionally evocative. The work is sharp and professional as usual, but I sense something deeper in it too...can't put my finger on it. It does remind me of when I was younger and I would play that one slow song on an album over and over and dream. This would be one of those songs.

Dave,

Thanks very much. I appreciate it! I've been trying to add more electric lead & rhythm where I can.

Hi Bob!
There are many instrumental elements of this song that are there just doing their thing in a cohesive way and not reducing from your vocal or the lead guitar. Great lead guitar fills!

The other thing that I noticed - and it became a mirror back at me - the timing of ‘twilight line’, with ‘twi-‘ being on beat one. I say it was a mirror because I would fall into old habits and bring it in earlier, but your phrasing holds off so that the two words stand alone almost - as an emphasis. Was that a deliberate thing?

Great song!

Andrew

Once again an incredibly good song lyrically. The instrumentation used is perfect and I particularly love the electric guitar. You really do have a unique and very special songwriting talent.

Hmmm. I bet Joliz sings on her day off too. Another outstanding musical gem, Bob. That Esquire cuts such a wonderful path through the melody with perfect taste. Your lyrics are always thoroughly engaging, and your vocal brings the listener close like someone whispering in an argument. A very rewarding listen.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Very cool.
I really like the lead fills but some of them end a little abruptly...I use a bit of delay repeat to smooth those bits in my own mixes.

YOUR. BEST. PERIOD (as far as I'm concerned!).

WOW.

You know that show, The Voice, where they have blind auditions, with the judges facing away from the singer, and they press about to turn around if they like what they hear? I did a double-take on the first guitar entry, and again on your first entry. I would have pressed my button right away, 5 seconds into the song, were I a judge (thankfully, I ain't ... I'm nowhere near competent enough, most likely ... but I certainly am good enough to know a good song when I hear it, and sometimes why it's so good).

ANYWAY.

I'm NOT going to analyse this. This is perfection, as far as I am concerned. This should be absolutely everywhere, on every self-respecting radio station that likes to say it plays good music.

To those that think I'm exaggerating: just listen. And listen. And listen.

I was going to quote some of these lyrics, but I'd have to quote the whole thing, at this rate.

Hats off. I'm humbled. We are SO lucky you're sharing your works here. Bravo.

Bob, I have said this before but I will say it again "you are as good as and on some songs like this one better than John Prine". As usual outstanding vocal and lyrics. Those guitar licks are fantastic, you make that Esquire sing. You should highlight your guitar skills more often. The backing tracks and mix are perfect.
Loved it.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
