I hate to say it but I have been deep in the rabbit hole that is Suno. I have been taking all my old songs and replacing my vocals with Suno's far superior vocals. My process is to take a song I've created in BIAB and my DAW and upload it to Suno. Then I move a slider called audio influence up to 85 (as high as you can go without redlining.) Suno then copies my melody, usually perfectly. It often copies the BIAB arrangement as well, but not always. In the case of this revision that I originally posted in June of this year, Suno even went so far as to copy my harmonica solo fairly closely, albeit on a saxophone instead. I was really happy with the result. It's not perfect. Suno often produces glitches, artifacts, noise, or just downright silly arrangements. But I can get over that in order to get such a great vocal on my songs. This will probably be the only time I post a song where Suno is involved, because there is some push back. But I wanted users here to realize what is possible. Especially some of our users like me who are struggling with vocals. If anyone wants to compare the original BIAB track, here's a link:

That is a great cover. Suno is simply amazing at what it does.

I think it's amazing what tech can do. I have to say though that I prefer your vocal. You have such a unique and identifiable sound. It suits your music so well.

And that is such a great song!

Cool sax. Yeah, I'm with Izzy prefering your original, but you're right, this vocal is so good. I sometimes think of my songs, "This could be a good song if someone else sang it," which is the hook of Suno I guess. Anyway, it's really cool how it turned out, but I prefer Dylan over The Turtles.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Great lyric and melody to begin with. Terrific song.
I, too, dig your vocals.
But this is a valid use of Suno - vocal substitution. (the only problem being That Guy will soon be singing every song like this that anyone writes. Just like how all the SynthV vocals have begun to sound all-the-same).

THANKS big-time for "showing your work".
I much enjoyed listening to your version first.
And being able to compare the AI.

Did you do a version of your BIAB production with just the AI vocal?
Your harp is worth saving.... smile

This is a good song Rob. I enjoyed listening to the contrast. While the Suno version is interesting and highly polished, I suspect the more we hear of AI, the more we will long for the human touch - at least until AI can perfect imperfection.

Rob, great demo, and well explained. Like a few others who've listened, I'd still vote for Rob + harp. Your vocals are better than you think, and your harp is what makes your songs you (all my opinions, of course). Stellar song!

Hey, Rob. The 2 versions are so different re quality I can understand why some folk wouldn't want to use anything else but Suno, your song being super-polished by it, but I agree with a lot of the other comments as your original version has a much more personal touch and feel to it.

Everything I've posted on this forum is 100% BiaB apart from the vocals of the 3 versions of "Flowing Lady Deya" I've done, but I've not been able to complete my own vocals to anything due to the horrible limitations of where I live. I've recorded one song with my vocals, but after finishing it I had to change some of the lyrics and in over a year I've not been able to make a 2nd recording without getting local noises, some too loud and others aggressive, in the final. That said, I still want to do my own vocals on it even though I have a limited range and although I could get a better vocal and a much more polished sound using Suno, but I won't as I'll lose the original rawness and personal touch.

However, I discovered long ago that I can't reproduce the way I play and perform some of my very old songs in BiaB, particularly those in which I play fingerstyle guitar as BiaB samples don't do what I do. There's also a problem with a few of my old songs in that chords I use can't be reproduced in BiaB - I've tried and BiaB just reverts what I input to something close, but it's just not the same. So sometime in the unforeseeable future I may try uploading some of my very ancient recordings to Suno as it may be the only way I can get them both recorded and polished, even though the finished works wouldn't be how I'd ideally finish them. So I can see the attraction of Suno. Using Suno is much more like offering one's song to a studio and having others doing the vocals, mixing and mastering.

#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Some people hate Dylan's voice, others love it. I'm in the latter camp. I've been getting some unusual voices out of Suno lately, but nothing usable. Sounds like they're trying to offer unique voices, so we'll see how they do.

Yeah, Floyd, you nailed it. Pretty soon everyone's vocals will sound the same. Thanks for your praise of this song, it means a lot!!

I think they're working on it, Andrew, I've heard some unusual voices lately on Suno. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks so much, Ron, my harp does mean a lot to me and it's good to know others like it. I'm still learning Suno, maybe I'll be able to merge Suno and my harp in the future.

Great post, Chay, thanks for your in-depth thoughts on the subject! Let me say that Suno has been the most fun I've had with music since PG introduced Real Tracks. (And BTW, RTs sound much better than Suno arrangements IMHO.) My songs, particularly my lyrics, really mean a lot to me, so allowing them to shine with a first rate vocal from Suno has given me immense pride and pleasure. In the past, top vocalists like Deej, Greg, and Beth have sung some of my songs, for which I will be forever grateful. Marty, too. He's done a great job on my blues songs. And fiverr vocalists were quite useful until inflation kicked in. That still left me with a lot of songs sitting on the shelf. Now, thanks to Suno (and BIAB, of course), those songs have been brought to life. I'm just really, really happy - I feel like a huge bucket list item has finally been checked off. It will be interesting to see what Suno's trajectory will be. But at this moment, it certainly fulfilled a musical need for me.
