This is a song that I had a lot of fun writing and recording. First... I've been a fan of Christian groups that tended to be a bit heavier, like Skillet, for example. So this is a song in that side of the genre. Second.... This is subject to a remix or two.....levels of the instruments and other such minutia. I was using AI to do a cover of the song and from the AI, I only used the drums and the vocals. Actually, the vocal is not the original AI but is a derivative, edited, different AI vocal. Two tracks are dedicated to the vocals including the BGV. The B3 organ is BB RT 4378 There are 3 guitar tracks. I'm playing everything from the first to the last note on the guitars. One track is essentially the main guitar and runs start to finish. I used the other two tracks for the harmony, a wee tad of doubling in a few select places and for the solos in the song. All guitars were recorded with the Quilter Direct Amp using the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp model, with V-30 speakers in an open back cabinet. Bass guitar.... yeah, I'm playing that one too. You can blame Snyder for that because a few weeks ago, on the phone, while talking about music and this new song, he reminded me that I should play the bass in the song because it is fun.... he wasn't wrong. AND..... I got a custom part that hits the accents that BB tracks wouldn't even consider. Mixing.... I'm pushing things pretty hard in a few places.... like right from the first notes until the end.... But interestingly enough, I only have two "overs" in the final output. Jesus Reigns Lyrics: Jesus Reigns Shadows moving Trying to hold me down Darkness whispers But I don’t hear the sound The night screams loud But I’ve seen the dawn The ground shakes The walls fall Chains snap I hear His call No need to fear He’s broken the chains Jesus reigns Jesus reigns I have nothing to fear He’s already won The victory shines like the rising sun Storm clouds gathering They can’t dim the light A fire burns brighter Cutting through the night My scars tell a story But they’re not my end The earth moves The sky roars His love breaks through every door [Chorus] solo [Chorus] Copyright 2025 Herb Hartley

Herb, groovalicious, BIG sound. Really like your playing and the main riff a lot, and the duet section is a cool dynamic lift. The BiaB organ made a nice pad and showed up in the right places. There's a lot going on in the mix, but the things I listen for sounded good to me. Drums could be bigger? Personal taste though. Vocals are better than fine to my ears, though the garbling around the word "earth" kept jumping out at me on each listen. Know from other AI users that some of that stuff is what it is. It will get better for sure.
Cool song!

Truly excellent rock song and I love all of your guitar work! Incredible solo! Which AI did you use for the vocals?

Herb, that is excellent! You are so creative! I esp liked the guitar riff that you used as your key motif. I'm sure that there is a smile on our Good Lord's face seeing how fruitful the seeds of talent are displayed in this! Loved it all.

Herb, Man, I just do not know what to say. This song just kinda reigns supreme in halls of the BIAB forum in so many ways. It's like you just came in and proclaimed yourself the King, the Elvis, The Springsteen, the Jason Aldean, the Skillet, the Hammer and the Rock. The MASTER of reason and rhyme, playing that guitar like no one else could. No. where. Not. Ev-er. No. Way. No. How. Wow, I thought had heard some rock and some country and some hard rock and some blues on this forum, but now, man I realize I hadn't seen or heard ANYTHING. Now, I know some people have been complaining about some AI on here, but since BIAB kinda is AI and has been marketing itself as intelligent composing software since its inception, that feels a little strange. So, I don't know why some folks getting their knickers in a wad. Who's to judge, eh? "BIAB intelligent composing software is an abbreviation for PG Music's Band-in-a-Box, a long-running and robust automatic accompaniment and music composition program. It is widely used by musicians, songwriters, and composers to quickly generate backing tracks and explore musical ideas. "Band-in-a-Box is considered "intelligent" due to its ability to automatically generate musically appropriate and realistic-sounding accompaniments based on user-entered chords and chosen musical styles." --AI on whether BIAB is AI But man, you went beyond this by playing that guitar all by yourself, note by note, thought by thought, bend by bend, brilliant unsurpassed technique by brilliant unsurpassed technique. Now I know this song is about Jesus, but I am sure he is looking down from Heaven right now and saying: "Well done, Herb. Now that's what I'm talking about. The angels are cryin' up here right now, bro." I could go on and on for days about how good this is, but I guess I will just say that you are the man, the genius, the master of the song, everything you put up here is the most wonderful thing anyone has ever done in the history of music, and no one, and I mean "no.one.and.no.one.ev-er" will be able to top this no matter how hard they try. Ever. And I NEVER would have written a review like this if so many people hadn't already beaten me to the punch. NEVER. But this forum has made me a new hyperbolic man, just like Frankenstein's monster. Hell, maybe I have turned into AI. Who knows????? OK, I hope you get my joke by now good buddy!! Seriously, this was awesome!!!! You sure do know how to play that guitar! Glad you got that shootin' range done. Let's go out and raise a little hell. America!!!!!!!

Cool song! And here I am thinking that the drums were big but you're saying they should be bigger. I like the way you think. I didn't hear what you heard in the vocal. Even soloed. I'm grateful for your opinion. Thanks for listening and commenting

Truly excellent rock song and I love all of your guitar work! Incredible solo! Which AI did you use for the vocals? Glad you liked it. I took my basic demo, let Suno do a cover and then used Band in a Box to do stem extraction. I loaded the vocal track into Audimee and selected the voice of Blake. There were several glitches so I had to edit the track and use audio editing to get the track you heard in the song. Hopefully, that explains it and helps Thanks for compliments on the guitar playing in the solo. I'm always looking to be tasty and not have my music sound the same every single time. I deleted several takes before I settled on these two sections. Again... Thanks

Hi Herb! A real thumper, this one. I notice some suggestions for more of this and that - why not, since you've gone to 11 on the dial, why not 12! Besides the overall vibe of the thing, I loved the crowd yells and also the harmonied guitar lines. I think I'll listen to this one again when I wake up, and not when I go to bed! Well done! Andrew PS A digression to a different song style entirely, but your song title just triggered my memory of Larry Norman's 'The sun began to rain'.

Dang, Herb. I was almost afraid to listen to this because I'm definitely not a heavy rock listener in general. So glad I did! This was awesome. The melody softens the edges and that vocal was killer (oh, AI, you are getting too damned good!).

Yeow! This is knock-me-down good, Herb. Your guitar work is outstanding. The vocal makes me want to hear what my songs would sound like with a good singer. Man, the range in the vocal is --whew! Had to spin it a couple times cuz it demands it. I dig the drums too. Yep, inspirationally fearless. David was right about you playing the fun bass. Man, the whole package is top-shelf.

A cool and loud rocker - just what the doctor ordered. Right up my alley, good drive, great guitars, super singer. The drums aren't my thing, the ring of the snare sounds bad because it's thin and blended with the overheads, and the kick could have more oomph at places. I'd just replace the drums with a RealDrum and call it a day. But apart from that, I REALLY enjoyed my listen ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif)

I'd gotten away from playing the guitars and over the last several, I've been trying to get back to work

Herb,
Big song - Big stage - Big fun!
I do tend to agree that the drums could have been a little prominent. Other than that - supreme! I've never heard of Skillet - guess I need to do a little YouTube Surfin' tomorrow.
Very enjoyable!!! Oh, nice work with all those string things you played. Sounds like you might have done it before!
Enjoyed.

The idea is to make it sound like it's on 11 with the knobs ripped off without overloading it. Listen as many times as you want. I like to say that less is more but in this case, more is more.

The melody softens the edges and that vocal was killer (oh, AI, you are getting too damned good!). Thanks. Listening to things that are not specifically in your favorite genre is always a good thing. It can often stimulate new thoughts and ideas. As I pointed out, only the drums and vocals in this production are AI. Thanks for listening
