No Turnaround

An admittedly trite Bud write smile but perhaps with a twist or two you might like (lyric on SC). Janice sings lead, harmony and played all the percussion on her cajon - no drum track. Peter plays rhythm/fills and solo guitar. Bud did the tech stuff and Janice’s photo. As always thanks to Peter and PG Music and if you choose to listen your comments are always welcomed.

For the tech inclined:

Janice’s Cajon tracks: Logic Chromaverb, Neutron and Ozone Imager.

Janice’s vocals: Rodes NT1 mic, Scarlett 212 interface and Izotope Nectar (light compression and reverb only).

Bass: RealTrack 701 DI Electric, PopHalfNotesSync Ev 085
Logic Pro Classic Comp amp, Waves Bass Rider, Logic Channel EQ and Waves Magma BB Tubes

Rhythm Guitar: RealTrack 542 DI Electric, Rhythm Dreamy Ev 085
Logic Pro Boutique Retro amp and Warm Vintage Pedal Overdrive.

Piano: MIDI SuperTrack 2087 Rhythm PopBalladJohn Ev 085
Logic Pro Studio Grand sound, Waves CLA Unplugged and Ozone Imager

Mastering:
Ozone Modules (J&B Presets): EQ, Stabilizer, Impact, Imager, Dynamic EQ and Maximizer. Also Izotope Tonal Balance 2 and Logic Loudness Meter.

Hi J&B and Peter!
A good pace to this song. Janice’s vocals as good as ever, and those harmonies fitted so well and sounded as smooth as. Peter’s very complimentary lead and fills. The road metaphor did the trick. The mixing? I didn’t notice, so it must’ve been spot on. Well done to all. Listened twice.

Hi J&B (and Peter)

Slow, easy listen.

Janice sound smooth and languid, Peter's guitar is tasteful, and everything in the mix is in place.

The cajon sounds a bit like a drum with mallets.

I've got no issues with the write - it does what it needs to do, and gives us a chance to hear Janice sing! smile

Nice!

We three appreciate that. You mentioned all our objectives in a very supportive way … vocals, write, guitar, percussion and mix. Thanks!!

J&B&P, this is so darn good! Janice's vocal and harmonies are so smooth. Great lyrics. Peter's guitar is icing on the cake. That cajon sounds fantastic.
Loved it.

Janice, Bud & Peter,

This is such an excellent song. Wistful without being heavy, great lyrics, awesome guitar by Peter and a wonderful performance by Janice. These are not easy songs to write and you have done an exceptional job here.

I absolutely love the overall mix and production - light, crisp, and exactly what the song needs.

Outstanding in every way!

Excellent song, and since I mainly write pop songs, I don't mind the attribute "trite" too much smile
Great, unobtrusive guitar fills, tasteful percussion (I also play the Cajon), and, of course, Janice's harmony vocals alone make this song worth listening to.
What bothers the producer-me a little is the double triple "snare" fill, it's played so evenly that it sounds artificial/quantized in an otherwise very organic-sounding production.
But apart from that, the mix and production are _really_ good [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]
Enjoyed my listen.

Thanks David. We always appreciate your thoughtful comments. The cajon tracks were recorded with the “snare” and “kick” on separate tracks so, yes, we added some compression and reverb that gave a mallet feel.

Thanks again for all the comments,

Thank you Mario. And Bud appreciates your mention of the lyrics as he remains equivocal about them. 😀

Much appreciated,

Hi Janice and Bud,

You sang this song beautifully, Janice. Straight from my heart, and I enjoyed it immensely.
Although I've been warning you for a few years to beware of those creepy men. But you still refuse to listen to me...

Although this also gives us these beautiful songs of yours!!! Peter, as always, accompanies them with incredible sensitivity on his guitar. And your husband, Bud, is a master at combining all of this into beautiful songs. This one too!
These are the kind of men you don't have to be wary of. You just have to love them.

I noticed that where I had a song about Round and Round, you can immediately come up with a [*****]: No Turnaround ;-)
Well... as long as it's good.

Best,
Hans

'An admittedly trite Bud write....'

Well, okay, but there's a lot to like. Of course Janice's vocals are always spot on as they are here, and the piano and the guitar work very well together throughout the track.

Good one.

Thank you Bob for the great review. Your mention of the lyric is special as we so much admire your writes … it’s not in the ball park of yours but we do thank you!

This is a really first class song again. Janice's vocals and harmonies are perfect for it, plus I particularly like the lyrics and the references to the road: "So I’m gonna travel a single lane for a while / Leaving’s all that matters not where I’m bound / Don’t wanna roundabout just need a straight line / No side roads and damn sure no turnaround / Leaving’s all that matters not where I’m bound" and the rest of it is really excellent songwriting.and not in the least bit trite!

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

J&B and Peter, SUPER song, and superb performances by all. Love how perfectly understated this is without losing the beauty or emotional impact. A really fine balance, perfectly achieved. Fantastic vocals, tasteful guitar fills and a fine, FINE mix. Love the too-seldom-heard-here cajon, too. Great job (again)!

Morning Janice, Bud, and Peter!

This one has a bit of an Eagles vibe to me, that laid back feel they were so good at.

Fabulous vocal and harmonies! Such great tone! And always enjoy hearing Peter do his thing.

Good write and mix, Bud.

A nice song to listen to with my first coffee of the day smile

Ah, so cool. What a great feel. That cajon is a big part of it. So well recorded too. Bud, I learn so much from you. Janice, I'm not ignoring your sensational singing, or taking it for granted. In fact, each time I hear how you sing ANY song, amazement and respect is like the first time. Peter, always playing the best for every song you guys do. Yeah, I listen to you folks a lot, and every moment is enjoyable.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks for the nice comments. Glad you liked it. Well, the cajon … after mixing it in we felt the fills were too nondescript but not wanting to record again we built the turnarounds using the “snare” hit. I was not particularly pleased with the result. We didn’t align them exactly with the bar markers but rather used Logic Pro’s Groove Trqck feature to lock them to a RD drum track playing the triplet. We hoped that would keep them from sounding quantized but apparently the drummer was too accurate. 😀 But then we had reached the point of “mixing is never finished - just abandoned. “

Thanks again,

J&B

These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
