I decided to try out the "Cover" feature in SUNO for this new project. The singer's voice is way better than mine, and I like it.
=========================
ELEVEN (or 10)

I trust as I look up at the sky;
So why do you tell me I must fly
Like a bird to the peaks on high?

Now I'm being shadowed by my foes;
Aiming from the darkness, I'm their target, this I know;
Standing at the ready with their arrows and bows.

If the good that I've done is shattered ,
Worried if anything I'd done  had mattered;
What will I do?

From there in the heavens where you dwell,
You watch my trial and wish me well;
I'm a child of the very first bell.

Both the enemy and I are in the measure;
You will never harm the flower that you treasure;
But woe to the foe.

Storms will rain on the ones who seek destruction;
Scourged by raging flames of lava in eruption;
Hot winds their due.

But if I've heard and understood,
Held myself virtuous and good,
I know we'll see each other
As we should.
==========================
The Style I used was _CBALDBR.STY. Country Ballad w/ Baritone Guitar...but I only used the bass and RT365 Finger-picking guitar
I recorded with my vocal, then sent to SUNO and asked for a cover, with a cello fill-in. Brought the stems back to RB for some balancing.
Pretty amazing technology!

Tom, this is a really good song. Super chord progression. Suno did a great job with your song.
The vocal is great. I thought that the harmony sounded "fake" for a lack of a better work but that is just my opinion and others may will not agree. Sweet cello.
Sounds great.

Thanks Mario...I didn't expect all aspects to be perfect, but, for purposes of learning how to do this, I'm pretty pleased.

Nice job, Tom! Very pretty song with a cool theme. Super mix, too. The Suno vocal is very rich and nicely controlled. I'm not hearing as much of a dynamic range as I might have heard if you were singing this to interpret the lyrics (as you do). Am sure this type of subtlety isn't far away...

A beautiful song, Tom. Did you train/model the suno voice with your own? I hear similar characteristics now and again. While I think you don't give yourself enough credit regarding your vocals, I have to say the compositionally, this is my favorite of yours.

Thanks all...BYOB: I made a simple track of guitar/bass/my vocal. Then I submitted it to SUNO and chose the "cover" option. After doing this several times, I reviewed all the outputs, which were all slightly different, then selected the one I liked best. When you upload a song like this to SUNO, it analyzes it and creates a description, such as "This is a folk/blues song with a male voice..." etc. I've found you can edit the description to say, for example "a female voice" or even "a breathy female voice" and then reprocess it and SUNO will attempt to follow your description. I am very impressed that it is able to very accurately render the lyrics out of my vocal recording. I have lots to learn with it, but, considering it as a possible tool where I have shortcomings (or need a female vocal), I think it can bring value.

Hi Tom!
As others have said, wonderful chord progression and melody. It took my ear to the end of the song to get used to the harmonic flow, and to me, that is a good sign of a song that I can come back to again and again while retaining some freshness. Looking at the lyrics and listening to the feel of the song, I am assuming you were aiming for a certain humility feel?
Regarding AI, thank you for your workflow description. I am keen to hear a before and after - not to see which is best (because I would give that award to your own vocal) - but to see how the tech interprets the original. I’m not expecting you to do this - I am just pondering.
Great song - good job! I always look out for your contributions to the forum.

I hope I'm not being swayed by the outstanding vocal when I say this is the best song I've ever heard from you. I keep listening over and over. Love the lyrics and the melody is superb. Great work!

Yeah, maybe, but I like your voice much better. Still, I love this song. Fine melody and I like the harmony. The cello is perfect. All of the music is perfect.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bob, Marty...thanks for listening. My original was pretty plain and basic. I was wanting to see how SUNO dressed it up by asking for it to add the cello. Worked out well. Thanks again.

Came back for another listen, this is so good. Can you explain the title and the lyrics, Tom? IMWTK!

Beautiful ballad, and as much as I like your voice personally, this vocal is really good.
Enjoyed my listen.

Thanks Bob and BD.
Something I've been wanting to do for a long time. This song is a "transcription", in modern musical form, of Psalm 11, or sometimes shown as Psalm 11(10) or 10(11)...From about Psalm 8 or 9, various Bibles have different numberings for the Psalms. I just picked a Psalm at random, then tried to render the stanza-by-stanza meaning as directly as possible, but with focus on Western music structures for song-like meter and rhyme schemes. Musically, I just wanted a very simple melody and chord pattern, since most of the creative work was the focus on the lyric. I didn't really have any particular style in mind, but I like how the AI rendered it. I think it turned out pretty OK, and I'm quite happy with it!

Thanks for asking!!

Hi Tom,
When the song started with that cello and then the vocals, I thought what wonderful voice, so bright, so clear.
Then I saw Suno was involved. Well, from what I've heard Suno is doing a great job on vocals and probably arrangements or instruments.
Of course, me, an oldie, likes the originals more. Not because they are better, no I fear Suno wins, but they are more genuine.
Still, Suno often wins, I fear.
About the cello... I prefer some more reverb on it. Now it's a bit 'dry' and very upfront. It needs a space of it's own.
The harmonies I loved. Like I said; Suno wins mostly...
But the song itself was yours, and that's a winner too!

Hans

Tom - what a beautiful song, you have such lovely command of
song writing! Like I've said elsewhere recently, 'less is more' and
that really is the case here - love the cello, but would have
preferred your own voice!
Beautiful chord sequence too,

Carl
