This is an old song. Written by Pat Bishop and myself. The old way. Before AI.

The reason I'm posting this is Pat Bishop just informed me that she submitted it to her Houston Songwriter group and it won song of the month. It was licensed by a crisis pregnancy support group at the time it was written. Words are in the song link.

I don't recall the specifics....it was written over 12 years ago, but I know I'm playing the mandolin and I think the piano and guitars and possibly strings.

Singers are Cassie and Sydney.
Everything else is BB.

Give me a Chance

Comment or not. Your choice but all comments are welcome.

Really touching song, Herb. Nicely arranged and all the instruments, real and BiaB, sound great. Sweet vocals. The 2nd vocalist's appearance packs an emotional punch. Nice outro, too.

Congratulations on the contest placement!

Such a powerful song, Herb (& Pat). I like that resonator --excellent choice. Man, the music is fabulous, piano, guitars, strings, and even the reso. Cassie and Sydney do an amazing job, and (I'm guessing that's ) Sydney brought out the chills in me. Those chills got another lift with the chorus coming in. I can see why that support group had to have this song. Perfect!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Herb and company, WOW, what an outstanding song. Love the child singing section.
The instrumentation is perfect. The vocals were outstanding but the lyrics took it over the top for me.
I'm glad this song is getting the recognition it deserves.
Loved it.

Hi, Herb.

Old or new, a good song is a good song. So congratulations!

I see this in the write-up is an excellent summary of the process:

Story behind the song: It's a long story.

Sounds great - an effective write.

Thanks. This is one of almost a dozen cowrites with Pat. Cassie was one of my daughters friends and ended up working on a couple songs with me. The other one was also a cowrite with Pat.

Thanks for listening

Good one.

The track has that pro-sound. I don't know what that is exactly, recorded well at the source, compression, saturation, you the engineer, and I don't know how to describe it, but it's very pleasing to my ears.

Thanks guys. This is an old song and the licensing was years ago and has long expired. I don't know if they ever used the song in their course of business and fund raising. I'm glad you like it.

Even though this song is fairly old, Pat had never submitted it to her songwriters group until recently. This was fun to write with Pat as she's always on top of her game. Recording it was also fun. The child singer is my niece who was, at the time, a child and surprisingly, she nailed the performance in only a few takes. Very little pitch correction was needed or used for either of the singers.

Thanks for listening.

Herb,
It's never a surprise to see you post a blurb about having one of your songs receiving accolades or licensing. You were an early adopter of using libraries as a way of making your music available, and as long ago as 2014 when I first visited you, you were already reaping the rewards of your vision. My hat is off to you. Your IQ must be off the charts. High functioning in multiple arenas is the mark of a highly intelligent person.. and you certainly are one who pursues every activity with the full strength of his hands.

Enough about you. As wonderful as the song production is , the message in the song is the real star. Lucky is the person whose passion is also his ministry.

Late to the party but we throughly enjoyed this.

Lyrics, vocals, all the instrumental tracks, the arrangement -- all sound great on the monitors.

Nice open/airy mix with plenty of subtle dynamics.

Well done and, yes, we are fans of the old way. smile

Adore the instrumentation in this ballad. It's a great song theme and a fine production. My only minor criticism is that I thought it would sound better with some harmony vocals earlier on.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
