Hi All,

Here’s a ragged little city song… 1071 5th Avenue.

We walked tonight to the Guggenheim Museum
Her hair was blowing like it found its freedom
The city shimmered a restless backdrop
We talked of dreams we had and dreams we’d lost

She touched the glass where the paintings hung
Said, “Look how they capture the light, so young”
I saw a reflection that I couldn’t hold
A moment gone as the wind turned cold

Caught in the glow of a fleeting view
City lights blurred like dreams we outgrew
We’re drifting through moments we can’t reclaim
Like strangers with stories no need for names

Through the spiral halls we drifted slow
Each step we took felt like letting go
She whispered stories I’d never known
Of places she'd seen and the nights alone

Outside the doors the world was wide
Yellow cabs and the Hudson tide
She laughed like a child at the rush of it all
I watched her dance through the city's sprawl

She talked of staying of leaving too
The streets below us were painted blue
With echoes of footsteps and songs unsung
In that fleeting light we were both still young

Caught in the glow of a fleeting view
City lights blurred like dreams we outgrew
We’re drifting through moments we can’t reclaim
Like strangers with stories no need for names

Good song, you won me right out of the gate rhyming museum and freedom. Sounds like you did something a little different with your voice on this one, hard to describe it, but it's cool. Good story, enjoyed it.

Bob,

Thanks very much. I appreciate it. This particular mic is very transparent. I typically use it for slower songs to get a more intimate sound.

Bob, you always tell fantastic stories in your songs and you always pick the perfect backing bands.
Outstanding guitar, it is just perfect for this song.
Loved it

Hi Bob.

Once again, you have excelled yourself. The imagery within these lyrics is outstanding. As a listener, I found this journey completely mesmerising. It is very well done, indeed.

Hi, Bob.

Up to your usual standards, bringing me into another place, sad and hazy.

Interesting harmonies! Very cool.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Very cool song, Bob. Love the imagery and relaxed pacing. Super playing on electric (again)! Very cool outro. Nice mix, too.

The Guggenheim is one of my favorite little gems. Perfect tune to honor the museum and the lives intertwined with those memories...

A wistful walk thru the Big Apple, for sure. Reminds me of many times wandering the streets of Manhattan, from the Village up to Midtown. Great imagery.
My only comment--I think it could use a bit of a "difference" break somewhere in the middle--like maybe 8 bars of "NYC hectic"--then a return back to the introspective mood you've created.
Great job Bob!

As always, I'm impressed by how you come up with and tell these stories, Bob.
It all sounds so natural, as if you were sitting around a campfire telling stories from the past, with lines that happen to rhyme.

"...a ragged little city song…"
Oh. Yeah.

Your songs often paint movies for me.
This one was mostly black&white&grey with smatterings of rusty reds and browns...

Nice guitar touches.

LOVE your road-worn vocals on this!

Some of your best lyrics. The music just carries them to the listener, but the listener must LISTEN, here, otherwise the story can go by him, if he's not paying attention ... much like the events you describe in the lyrics, if that makes any kind of sense.

"Her hair was blowing like it found its freedom
The city shimmered a restless backdrop
We talked of dreams we had and dreams we’d lost"

Been there.

"I saw a reflection that I couldn’t hold
A moment gone as the wind turned cold"

Yep - been there, too.

"Caught in the glow of a fleeting view
City lights blurred like dreams we outgrew
We’re drifting through moments we can’t reclaim
Like strangers with stories no need for names

Through the spiral halls we drifted slow
Each step we took felt like letting go
She whispered stories I’d never known
Of places she'd seen and the nights alone"

Yes ... been there, too ... and wow. What writing.

How on Earth can you be so descriptive, evocative, observe and paint the most hidden details in a scene in your lyrics, and wrap them up in such understated, captivating and storytelling music? That, I don't know, I may never quite know. But ... wow.

You're killing me softly with this song, Bob - because you're taking me to decades ago, when I experienced something like this myself. Difference between me and you is quite simply this, though: YOU can write (music and lyrics) about something like this to a level that most of us will never reach. Your ability to notice detail, the poetry in each detail, and poetically frame and immortalise it in music and lyric writing leaves me ... speechless.

I've tried to quote some of your lyrics, this time, but - honestly - each line is incredible. As for the music: 'nuff said. Oh, one more word: superb guitar.

A joy to listen - thanks for sharing.
