I think I saw a forum entry that suggested that it’s possible to do a ritard, not not in BIAB but instead in Real Band.

If that’s true, exactly how is it done in Real Band?

Thanks,

Michael

I'm not aware of this, but it may be possible.
BIAB definitely only offers ritard on a bar-by-bar arrangement. The contrast of this can be circumvented by dividing the required bars into 2/4 and progressively lowering the tempo, thus achieving a smoother delivery. But as for full ritard, I'm not aware of this possibility, but somebody else may know more.

Separately, this post may be more suitably presented in the RealBand section of these forums.

Since everything in this program is interchangeable, in that you can open the RB files in BB and vice versa..... open the song in BB. Use the bar setting tab to adjust the tempo where you want the RIT to go.

I normally do the RIT over 2 (4 beat) measures. But to have it sound smooth and natural, I add 2 bars, change those (now) 4 bars to 2 beats each as opposed to 4, ( I now have the same number of beats but in smaller resolution chunks) and decrease the tempo in each one incrementally. This gives a more natural sounding RIT rather than having noticeable "steps" in the tempo as it slows down.

Michael, there were indeed posts about all this within the last few months. I offered a possibly theory and suggestion for future development.

The best technique I know of at this time is the workaround nicely described in the two posts above.

Here's more on the subject:

Since RealBand does not exist for the Mac, I dump the project in Digital Performer—any DAW will do–where it takes a few seconds to create a tempo map then apply rit/rall as I please.
