It's time to upgrade some older equipment. New laptop is in place, and looking at what programs are available to create backing tracks. I'm familiar with BIAB, but the ancient version I have (2007) must have been improved tremendously. Before I jump on the 2024 version, has anything come on the market that is better sounding? I've heard some nice sounding tracks generated from iReal Pro, but it claims to be jazz oriented. I'm open to suggestions!

I've heard some nice sounding tracks generated from iReal Pro, but it claims to be jazz oriented. I'm open to suggestions! Compared to 2007, BIAB is now on another planet. Sensational RealTracks, new Styles (both MIDI and Real Styles), User Interface Improvements, and much more. The latest version is 2025, but we anticipate that in about a month or so, 2026 might be released at an introductory discounted price <hint: do you have an urgency to upgrade? > Regardless, you won't be disappointed by the plethora of new features and sounds from the latest versions. My tip: there are many different 'Paks' available. Go for the highest Pak that your budget allows. Those higher Paks have the most features by way of content.

Also, there are oodles of real-world demos in the User Showcase subforum. Most of these posts will list the BiaB content of the track they are posting. So judge for yourself.  User Showcase subforum

There are currently about 467 sets of RealTracks available. Go here to start sampling some of them. With over 4,900 RT's to choose from, you will be busy listening to the Band Demo's. Start by looking at the genre you are interested in and going from there. I went all in and got the UltraPak+ from the start and the investment has been well worth it. BiaB gives by far the best results, but can be slow and rather quirky to use. iRealPro is quicker to use, especially if one is taking down the chords at a jam. I use both; iRealPro for convenience and portability, BiaB for a proper job.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.
