Today I got the chance to have some fun with the Stem Splitter! With this big addition to Band-in-a-Box, I've noticed there is a couple different options when going about extracting these individual audio stems from a whole track: The first option would be opening the Stem Splitter Player. Using the Stem Splitter Player is great for extracting individual stems of an audio track and even transcribing for use with your projects after. This function can be found by going into Band-in-a-Box and clicking File | Import | Open Stem Splitter Player. The other option would be to select "Import Audio File to Separate Tracks Using Stem Splitter". This option lets you import the stems into your current project to be used with whatever Style with Realtracks or MIDI that you want, or with just the stems! In this post I want to focus more on the second option, with some things to look out for and consider before importing. In Band-in-a-Box, If you go to File | Import | Import Audio File to Separate Tracks Using Stem Splitter, this window will appear. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=31491&filename=Screenshot 2025-11-13 140042.png) In this window dialog you will find some important options to look over before Importing: 1. Use Existing Audio Track - This will make the stems work with the audio track already used in your project. 2. Amount to Process - Typically you will want the whole song, but there are options here to import sections, or even blips of the audio file. 3. Stems to Include - There are 5 stems checkboxes, and a master checkbox, make sure to keep these checked unless you don't want a certain instrument stem. 4. Disable Style - This will silence the original RealTracks and/or MIDI in the project so you are just listening to the imported stems. Uncheck this if you want to mix both together. 5. Preserve WAV files - Checking this saves WAV files for each stem in the folder where you saved the original audio. This is useful so make sure to check it if you want backed up, high quality stems afterwards. 6. OK - Generate Stems - This will start the import process and you will see the stems shortly after within your mixer's Audio & Utility Tracks! I've been having a lot of fun with this feature so far, mixing and matching different styles, especially vocals. Great breakdown of the Stem Splitter workflow! For even cleaner vocal extraction, try isolating just the a cappella section first before processing the full track - reduces harmonic conflicts with other instruments.

Thank you! Would you be referring to the "Stems to Include" section? So instead of processing 5 categories at once, isolating it to just the vocal stem would make a cleaner extraction. Am I getting warmer?

Thanks for the clear breakdown! I often use the "Preserve WAV files" option so I can reuse stems in other DAWs later. Have you tried blending stems from different songs in one project yet? It can create some surprisingly cool mashups.
