Now AI has our talent, and it works cheaper.

I read this recently:
Quote
Anyone who has tested AI on their specialist subject, knows that AI is an idiot.

Unfortunately, I have concluded that few people have a specialist subject.

Yes. Before we had AI we did have talent.
But in the age of AI we can still have talent if we so choose. Never surrender your physical instruments to a bot, if you do you have become less human.

Yes. AI may work cheaper, but there still is a cost.

Yes. Few people may have a specialized subject, but no, AI is not an idiot as we can observe every day and in every domain.

Botton line: Don't be swallowed by AI, instead, grow your personal creativity and exploit and milk it for what it is . . . a tool.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

My fan base has been unaffected by AI. I had almost zero before and that number has not declined significantly. But that gives me an idea...I don't need AI to write my music, instead, I need AI to listen to my music and pretend to like it!

Steve, I think it is OK to use AI as a tool in your musical workshop. I am totally against AI generating entire songs. That is unless one uses the song as inspiration for creating their own song. YMMV

That's a reasonable position to take I suppose, to which I generally agree.

But here's a corner case. What if someone generates a complete song using AI and nothing else. And this song not only goes on to be wildly popular (think Hey Jude for example) but also spawns an entirely new genre and the musicologists of the world and general public can't get enough of it?

One point here is that upsides with 100% AI music may be possible.

But a larger point (for me) is that I'd never surrender the joy of making and playing music on my physical instruments to a bot or anything else; hence the cartoon. If others feel different on this point, no problem; music is a highly personal thing.

My main concern is the financial harm and emotional disillusionment that pro musicians may suffer due to the AI tsunami which is now upon us.

Same here and in fact that is why I use mostly MIDI. I can easily modify the tracks to my satisfaction. I also replace tracks with my playing. I know that I am no wheres as good as those RTs and in fact most all of the posters here but I love playing, even at my age.

I remember when the same thing was said about BiaB a few years ago. The same thing when DJs and Karaoke took over the wedding and bar business. I do not believe musicians will stop making music because of AI. In fact IMHO AI like BiaB will make them better musicians. YMMV

Fact is, there's something JOYFUL and EXCITING about creating a song yourself, or solving a complicated problem, or reading (not listening to) a good book, or...well, you get the point. Sure, tech can do many things we used to do the old fashion way, and for an increasing number of things, that makes sense. But for the things that give ME joy and excitement...I'm not going there.

Just can't give that up.

I do hope this is the case, it would a shame otherwise.
