BACK TO TEXAS

An older song recently recorded. Thanks for listening.

The backstory: At various times some years ago we were living in Louisiana and I was working in Texas. A couple we knew, who had three young boys, was in a similar situation.

My vocals recorded with a Shure SM7B mic in a partially treated home studio. My Collings D2H acoustic guitar recorded with a Shure SM81 mic in the same room.

Mixed and mastered in Studio One Pro 4 using Waves and IK Multimedia plugins, outboard EQ and compressors, Ozone Advanced 9.

Not sure I used all of the guitar and fiddle Real Tracks noted below in the final mix. No AI.

Back To Texas

Hello, Baby, how are things in Lou’sian’
I love you too, and I know you miss your man
But we do what we gotta’ do to make ends meet
We don’t live on easy street

So I labor and I toil
Chasing down this Texas oil
Yeah, I got another couple days to go
After that I’m on the road

Chorus

And I’ll put my back to Texas
And come on home to you
We’ll make love all night
Stay in bed till noon
Get lost in each other’s eyes
C’mon Babe don’t cry
‘Cause it won’t be long
Till I’m back to Texas

Sometimes I feel like a mouse in a big rat race
And I don’t know how much longer I can keep this pace
Something’s bound to change it always does
Only thing that won’t is us

Give my boys a kiss goodnight
Don’t worry I’m alright
You’ll be fine, I know you will
It won’t be long now until

Bridge

So long Houston, goodbye Beaumont, hello Lafayette
C’mon Atchafalaya, I’m gonna’ make it yet

Hi Scott,
It's so funny...when I hear a country song, my first impulse is to go "ug". It's just habit, even despite the fact that this forum has helped me learn to appreciate all kinds of music. I only share that embarrassing tidbit to express the quality of your song which really pulled me in. I was fascinated by the layered guitars. Strong, steady vocal and the chorus progression is really catchy too. Fiddles to boot. Curses! I'm a country fan!! laugh

Besth, country is like any other genere, there's bad, gooed and great. I've never been keen on pop ballad contry, but I've always been a fan of country rock and what I call bluegrss rock.

Hi Scott,

That is such a great write. The whole production is so professional and everything sat well in the mix. And your vocal is to die for, you make it seem effortless. Excellent.

Kind regards

Beautiful song.
Perfect instruments and arrangements, and I really dig your vocals.
I'd love to hear you sing harmonies with Floyd, I think your voices would complement each other well.

Country music at its absolute best. Great vocal, backing tracks, and mix.
An outstanding song.

Scott, SO nice to hear a first rate country tune without the "modern" autotune effect. Super song and super(er) vocals. Perfectly supportive backing track that never gets in the way. The fiddle is a dependable country accent that's used to perfect effect. Great job!

Hi Scott!
Good vocals as others have said, and I like the way the lyrics are set out and you release details progressively. Houston to to Atchafalaya - Google maps tells me 250 miles or about 400km - that’s a reasonable hike to have to do regularly. I can see why you’d be keen to get home.

Honestly, I'm not very familiar with country music, but I think it's a good song and you sing very well.

Excellent vocal, Scott, and some flashy good guitar. Good write and feel. The lyrics makes me feel sorry for y'all --the workers away, and those missing them. Thrilling how you bring it back to LA, too. What a terrific build to the song. A slow ride from LA to TX and pedal-to-the-metal from TX to LA. Wonderful song.

Enjoy whatever happens!

We love that sentiment!

To our ears this is outstanding “Hat Act” country.
A good thing indeed and great to hear.

Your vocals are perfecto for the song.
Well delivered in tone and phrasing.

Your guitar track and all the BiaB wrecking crew provided excellent support to the lyric and your vocals.

And you topped it al off with a fine mix.

We much enjoyed it!

Hello Scott,

It's a really nice song that serves as a model for country songs.
Your vocals are also fantastic, making it perfect for singing country music.
Country songs really are the soul of America.
I felt that strongly once again.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
