I wrote this song this past week. It's all BIAB except for the guitar solo. I'm doing all vocals. I guess I wrote it because I've been in this forum for about a month and I'm enjoying hearing a lot of the original songs and all the nice comments that are given. So, basically, this is a true song because I really like songwriters a lot!

******

SONGWRITERS, I LOVE YA
WRITING SONGS AND RHYMES, THAT'S WHAT WE DO
TRYING TO WRITE GOOD SONGS, TRYING TO FIND THE HOOK
WE KEEP ON TRYING, HOPING ONE DAY, A GOOD SONG COMES THROUGH

IT'S LIKE AN ADDICTION, WRITING SONGS
MOST FOLKS WON'T HEAR 'EM, THAT'S REALITY
BUT I WRITE 'EM, I RECORD 'EM, AND I LIKE EM
AND I LISTEN ALL THE TIME, AND THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME
4
AND I'M NOT THE ONLY CRAZY ONE, NO SIREE
WE'RE ALL MUSICIANS, AND LIKE TO WRITE OUR SONGS
MAINLY FOR OURSELVES, THAT'S THE WAY IT IS
BUT IT FEELS GOOD , IT'S RIGHT WHERE WE BELONG

WHY DOES A PAINTER PAINT IF MOST FOLKS NEVER SEE IT
WHY DOES A WRITER WRITE A BOOK MOST FOLKS WON'T READ
WHY DO I WRITE MY SONGS MOST FOLKS WILL NEVER HEAR
I WRITE 'EM , BECAUSE THAT'S ME

SONGWRITERS, I LOVE YA
WRITING SONGS AND RHYMES, THAT'S WHAT WE DO
TRYING TO WRITE GOOD SONGS,TRYING TO FIND THE HOOK
WE KEEP TRYING, HOPING ONE DAY, A GOOD SONG COMES THROUGH

SO I GUESS WE'LL JUST GO ON AND ON AND ON
ME, I CAN'T STOP, AND I WOULDN'T EVEN IF I COULD
SO I SPEND A LOT OF TIME, WRITING MELODIES AND RHYMES
IT'S WHAT I DO, IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD

Hi Sol!
Another good song from you. Normally I listen to others’ songs with an ear listening more to the melody and chord progressions than to the lyrics. However, in this case, the lyrics are close to home for me and so I am drawn to the words more closely this time. Mix wise, you create a ‘live’ vibe in your mixes. It would only need a soft murmur of a crowd and clinking of glasses and I’d swear I was listening in a bar or restaurant.

I know I write for myself but also for others to listen. I would like more of my family and friends to listen, but also hope that one day when I have shed this mortal coil, that a family member will say “Hey, did you know that my granddad was a songwriter? Listen to this!”. A little bit while I’m still here would also be nice.

It is very apparent that you love to express yourself in song, and you have a way of your songs addressing subject matter directly, and also how appreciative you are of this forum and members listening and giving feedback. I’ve noticed you’ve been pacing yourself of late (posts not as prolific) and I hope you develop a good following from these so that if you continue to publish outside of the forum, you still get the listeners you seek and deserve.

BTW, the way you post your YouTube videos makes it harder to ‘like and subscribe’ whereas if you post the link, viewers will be taken to YouTube where they can like, subscribe and comment. If I am missing something here, I am open to you or others filling me in.

Keep writing and I’ll keep listening!

Andrew

You have the amazing gift of putting your everyday thoughts into song lyrics as if you were having a normal conversation with someone.
And you make really good songs out of them [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]
Enjoyed my listen!

PS: It would be great (if time allows) if you could also comment on other people's songs (not necessarily mine, but in general), because that's what makes this forum so interesting.
Feedback, whether positive or critical, helps us all to improve, or, in the best case scenario, gives smile songwriters smile confirmation that they are not the only ones who like their own songs.

That's an anthem for songwriters if I ever heard one. Great job! I like hearing Jelly Roll Johnson weave his harp through your very good lyrics. Good solo, too. Well done!

Songwriter: you said it all! Your message is so real, but, ironically---no one especially wants to hear us songwriters WHINING about the fact that no one is listening! Haha!!
Besides that, your production is so solid and I esp liked the wordless vocalizing that shifted into the modulation--very cool!
I'm enjoying your participation in our forum and always look forward to your work!
I'm listening!!

Thank you Andrew..........for taking the time to listen and write such nice comments. I listened to "Simpler Times" today, along with my wife. We enjoyed it a lot. I liked the chord changes and the lyrics. It also had a vibe that I can't quite put my finger on....Maybe something from the 60's? I don't know, but it made me want to listen to some more of your songs.

Thanks for listening and liking the song. You know, sometimes I'm surprised when someone tells me that they've heard a song and liked it. That's because they never put a comment on youtube, so I had no idea. But, it's always a nice surprise when it happens.

Sol, you wrote a song about how I feel: I write for me and if it is good enough I post it hoping others just might like it.
"TRYING TO WRITE GOOD SONGS,TRYING TO FIND THE HOOK" you mastered both with this song.
Outstanding song - loved it

Thank you for the compliments Laurent. I am definitely a real person. I made a living in Miami, Fl as a band leader, playing parties all over Miami. I now live in central Florida and only do a single now and then for a few clubs I belong to. But now I fulfil my music needs by writing songs (over 300 on youtube). I just turned 80 and still love music. Here's a link to my youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJr1t8XN6QRnHhraoFg1_Nxz9_TBgRZyg

Thanks Mario. I think most of us would feel the same way. I try to write songs with universal themes...something everyone can relate to. Glad you liked it.

Great song, mix and production. Loved the vocals and BVs. Definitely a song which most here will relate to, and virtually every line is true for me.
PS: Totally agree with B.D. Thomas.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:

#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Right to the point. The best music is the one we make in that moment for us. There are a lot of much worse hobbies than writing songs. Others don't have to listen them, if they don't like them. It doesn't matter if the chord progression is very used, melody similar to millions of songs, but still: it makes us feel good.

Ah, there we go, Sol. This is the perfect anthem for all of us. I'm getting chills or goosebumps or whatever one calls them. "What a rush" we would say in the 60s. Creating is what humans need to do. This BiaB program and this Showcase forum is the best thing ever for folks who like to createmusic. This is such a good song, Sol. Thanks.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Sol, and I understood perfectly well that you weren't an AI. I think I was just having fun when I said that, and that you don't need AI to be talented, and I'm afraid everyone will think they're Mozart using that technique.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library.
