Hey, I want to give a shoutout to both Ember and Alistair of PG Music.

I recently lost my C:\ drive in a major crash, so of course, I have to reload BIAB. For a reason that I couldn't understand, I was having huge download issues, either using the BIAB Download Manager, or the individual files from My Products page. I restarted my computer, checked my internet connection speed, I had even downloaded an 300 plus Megabyte update to GIMP yesterday.

Ember helped yesterday, and we weren't able to resolve it. I was sure that it wasn't on my end. Alistair spent a lot of time with me this afternoon, and he finally asked me to reboot the computer and the modem for my cable.

I'm not sure why, but the cable modem apparently was the problem. I went from 30-100Kilobytes a second to up to 3 Megabytes a second just by restarting the modem. Even though other things were downloading at apparently the right speed, I guess things were screwed up on my end.

SO, Huge shoutout to both Ember and Alistair for their help, dedication and patience with this old guy. Thank you both for your help!

Gary

Gary, good to see you again.
I'm glad they could help, but even 3Mbps is pretty slow.
Your cell phone as a hot spot may be faster, if available.
Just noticing yours compared to mine, which is nothing fancy, just local cable internet speed, using an online test site.

Bob, I have a speed-limited plan by Comcast. I only pay like $15/month for my internet, and they slow it down to like 100Mb/s cap. For what I do, it's okay, and it saves me money, which I don't have a whole of any more.

"Retired" and only Social Security, which means not a lot of income. I haven't been able to find a job near me, I don't feel like commuting two plus hours to Seattle and beyond.

The few times I've used Ember, Alistaire or anyone else at the Help Desk, I've encountered pleasant, enthusiastic and talented support. They're the best.

How many other software packages have Live Help like we have here? Not many, that's for sure...

The community here, not only the staff, but everyone, as long as I've been using the product, and posting, has been wonderful. The only other forum like this that I'm aware of that even comes close is the Cloudy Nights forum.

I recently switched from DSL at 20mbs down and maybe 1.5mbs up.... to one of the wireless cell providers. They have been aggressively expanding and while they weren't available in July of this year when the DSL went down for 3 weeks, they were when I checked Just a few weeks ago. My DSL had slowed down to 2-3mbs down and less than 1/2mbs up and they were telling me 2 weeks to wait for a technician.

The new provider is, depending on the computer's internet card, close to 1gps with a solid +/-500mbs. Check your local wireless providers and make the move if they offer faster service and a decent price.

I'm actually paying the exact same amount for the (actually) fast internet that I have now as I was for the crappy DSL with slow speeds just a few weeks ago, with a 5 year price lock guarantee.

Gary

Do you have a cell phone, Gary?
If you do, you may want to explore some of their options for affordability.
I mentioned this as an option above also.
Being Capped at 100 Mbps is much different than only receiving 1Mbps .. just trying to help.
