Brian, welcome back! Upgrades can be the worst, can't they? Glad you're back online...

Cool tune with nice flow and harmonic interest. A lot of instrument credits but never sounds cluttered, and quite nicely mixed. Very nice playing, too. Oh, and pretty as well. Pretty is always a plus.

Hi Brian!
I like the way you lifted and mellowed from one section to another to provide contrast between sections, and how you ‘wove’ different instrument sections without it feeling forced or stark. ‘Cohesive’ or ‘seamless’ are words that come to mind.

I’m interested in how the song title came about - did you have the title early and write to the title or did the music conjur that title? Or, being a singer, did the title feature in the melody phrasing somewhere - this is often how it happens for me.

Anyway, really good to listen to.

Beautiful soundscape! Loved it all..and who thinks to include tabla in the rhythm track?? Thoroughly enjoyed my listen, and I'll look forward to seeing more as you re-enter the forum.

Brian, component failure and upgrades indeed are a PITA, but I am glad you are back up and running.
What a beautiful piece of music. Outstanding use of MIDI, gotta love MIDI right! Everything about this professional.
Loved it.

I missed your wonderful singing but this was very nice, indeed! Lots of instruments, but well manicured. Great work!

Hi Brian,

Superb piece of music, very mellow and relaxing.

I enjoyed the instruments you chose, how each transitioned smoothly to the next, and the gradual build in intensity.

Outstanding mix and production, very nicely done!

I agree, Ron. Rhythm and music (i.e. actual music) make a pretty cool combination. wink

I was about 3/4 of the way through laying down the tracks when the title came to me. Before that, it was just "Working Title 1." Since then, I've been toying with the idea of a whole suite of "Beyond" songs and melodies:
The Back of Beyond; Beyond All Reason; Beyond Reasonable Doubt; Beyond Recognition
Beyond The Black Stump
(our North American friends might have no clue about that one!)
Beyond the Pale or a parody of that one = Beyond the Pail - a song about the things you left off your bucket list.

I would like to take the credit for it but the brilliant folks at BIAB put it there (probably as an afterthought). It's at the bottom the track list when you review or load COAX Slow Pop 12-8 Tabla.

Thanks, Mario. Your comments are always appreciated. As for midi, I tried a regular keyboard (Yamaha PSR473) for a couple of months after my old Korg packed up, but even though it had hundreds of on-board sounds, I found it so limiting. Glad to return to the lush tones of midi sound samples.

I totally agree. I have 5 tone generators just sitting here. All have been replaced with much better and more versatile MIDI sound samples. Playing good MIDI sound samples is what I meant by my earlier message. I should have explained myself better so sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

Tone generators? How come nobody ever told me about such things? Might go and look them up on YT.

Beautiful, relaxing, but never boring soundscape.
I particularly like the flute and string parts.

Tone generators are synths without the keyboard. When I was gigging I had three tone generators that were played via my guitar MIDI controller. Now I use my MIDI controllers on VSTis, i.e. breath, keyboard, guitar, and/or wind controllers.

{edit} here is a Yamaha TX81Z tone generator that I have:

Hi Brian, what a beautifully layered instrumental. I really like that Coax style and enjoyed all you added to it to fill it out. I've tried a few experiments like that myself and haven't been so successful. The high pitched glock made me look around the room thinking something was going off here; the notes really floated right out of the song in to my environment. Interesting effect.

Beautiful music. Great production and I envy your instrumentation as BiaB is lacking in a lot of woodwind, such as bassoons, etc.

Thank you for the feedback.

No need for envy - midi keyboards are cheap and most of the vst sounds I have collected are entirely free. smile

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track.
