I found some "lyrics" on my scrap-heap, no idea what they relate to, what they mean, or if they are even finished. But--I thought--I'm going to go ahead and try to make something of them anyway!

PS--what do you-all call your first draft of a lyric, trying to match melody notes, rhyme scheme, emphases, etc, without any regard to its intelligable? I've always called it a "making a monster".
=========================
OUT of DARKNESS

There, creeping, crawling, through the fog, in full disguise;
Where? Hiding, like a jungle bird, evades my eyes;
The shape's unclear;
But I know there's something near;
And the scent of creation's tingling my ear.

What waters will I leap into, what mystic stream;
What learning will be mine to find, some crazy scheme.
Come close, my dove; This chase I love;
Charm you from your shadows to the spotlight of my sunbeam.

Come play with me; please let me see;
Let's fly together
Out of Darkness
..
Rise, let the sculptor chip away, expose the frame.
Eyes see the hidden beauty, that's the artist's game;

Who will you be?
Tempo, pace and key?
I'll set you free
Yes, it's up to me.

Lovely tune, Tom. A very elegant lyric and an equally matched musical score. Super virtual soloists. LOVE your vocals on this. Can't pigeonhole this style, but I know I like it, whatever it's called. Ending might decay naturally a LITTLE longer. Otherwise perfect to my ears.

I write the music from set lyrics, but I think of each musical approach as a different musical "suit" to try on. Sometimes the first suit fits. Other times, it takes a few fittings. And an alteration. And a cumberbun...

“Rise, let the sculptor chip away, expose the frame.

Yep, It’s all inside the marble …
You just have to expose it.

Excellent band (nice trumpet) and your vocals delivered the narrative really well.

Enjoyed it!

Hi Tom, your voice sounds exceptional on this. Great lyrics too (perhaps a deeper meaning is more easily derived from impressions and scraps than from something intentional or obvious). I admire your artful use of trumpet.

Tom,

This might be my favorite of your songs (so far)....
Very Cool. On several levels.

Your vocals are perfect for this. Delightful.

A very cool write - about the write!
Every line is good, imaginative, descriptive, interesting. Every one.

Cool arrangement/production. The muted trumpet came at Just the right time.

Very well done. Very.

Your scrap-heap lyrics work quite well. This tune sounds like it would fit in a stage musical, not a modern one, but more of the traditional type. I love the trumpet parts.

For me it would be more like the monster creating itself. Man, you created a very engagingly monster song here, Tom. I really like your choice of instruments, especially the muted trumpet followed by the acoustic. I also like the sparce percussion track --very complementary. Yes, it's up to you... and you tamed this monster very well.

Enjoy whatever happens!

All, thanks for listening the kind comments. After listening to this again, I still don't know what the words were supposed to mean, but I'll keep it as is!

Very clever lyrics, first doubting "What waters will I leap into", then calling creativity "come play with me" and then starting the scuplting "Eyes see the hidden beauty, that's the artist's game". Interesting chording born out of darkness. And then the creativity shines by the beautiful band, many nice details and instrumental choices, the trumpet is ace. Excellent vocals, just perfect for the scheme. Your music is very original, creative ... and magical, I'm glad to hear so many hidden treasures set free on this forum.

The accompaniment is minimalist but it supports your (very beautiful) voice and the solo instruments very well.
