Another song from Drive Lonesome: Rope From Heaven

https://fredgrittner.bandcamp.com/track/rope-from-heaven

ROPE FROM HEAVEN
Red fog of morning
Bleeding in the light of day
Newspaper blackens my fingers
With a world that won't go away
The voice inside is saying
It's time to shift my sights
My smoking heart can't take a world
That's filled with dynamite

CHORUS:
I need a Rope from Heaven
So I can climb up out of this mess
Looking for a Rope from Heaven
Don't care about the odds of success
I'll keep searching
Hoping for that rope to appear

Man from a country
Where the tide of history recedes
Beaches filled with bodies
Dead weight that nobody needs
We've grown accustomed
To this embarrassing display
Waiting out the next high tide
To wash the truth away
CHORUS

I dreamed I was Crusoe
Had Friday on my lonesome mind
He wouldn't lift a finger
I swore I was color blind
The architects of ruin
Kept building out to sea
When they reached our island
Friday said to me
CHORUS

The imagery of the rope is excellent.
One element of listener feedback..I thought the volume and thickness of the backing was a bit strong for your message..in other words, if I just read the words, they seem kind of introspective, but the music seems robust..just my reaction.
However, the lyric is solid, and the production is pro-level.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your work, Fred!

Hi Fred!
This song has a very likeable backing band, and each instrument can be heard. The words ‘rope … from heaven’ - I like the way there’s a small pause in between the words to create a sense that there are two messages in one that also come together. The B3 interlude creates a sense of waiting, and also in the outro, which I think would have been aided by a fade out? Anyway, just my thoughts - a really good song.

Thanks for your insights. Sometimes I like to cross things up--in this case, a robust backing track. I write enough softer ones...

Thanks, Andrew for your comments. I could have done a fade but in the context of the album, I had already had a bit too many fades. I get your point though!

Right away, Fred, I love the title. I'm afraid at this age I may need a full harness dropped down. What a cool song. Much enjoyed. Good feel, good band, excellent vocal and melody. Great idea so well developed. I like the bass break.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks, Marty. I am trying to vary the dynamics more these days, hence the break.

Lovely song and production. Cool use of the B3 and the Synth Pad for atmosphere. Great vocals, too.. I don't agree with the top 2 criticisms as I thought the mix amd arrangement were excellent.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:

#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.

#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Thanks. I don't worry about criticisms, as everyone hears things differently.
