Anyone use this yet? I'm trying it, but it's quite slow. It's doing a lot of work, I'm sure...

I’ll try to find the time estimate I read. You do have to give it time to work, just like rendering a mix to audio. I recall it’s faster than real time but close.

It is quite slow, it is just to wait, but it seems works fine.

I just tried it on a Carole King pop tune, and it did a creditable job (I used stems) of recreating a MIDI version of the tune. Melody had some glitches, but overall, captured the feel of the tune, and the chords, bassline and drums were amazingly accurate.

After some testing, I have mixed results with this feature. While the transcription tool works relatively well (not perfect, of course, but I don't expect perfect results using these type of this tools , and understand that some manual correction is always necessary), the problem comes when trying to align an imported audio file with bars in BIAB.
The ACW has always been too unreliable in this sense to be really useful to me. After syncing the whole song with the L shortcut as described in the manual and in some vídeos, the audio, sooner or later, just get out of sync for no apparent reason in MOST (not all) of the cases, which is REALLY frustrating. And yes, I've tried the "Equalize tempo" feature: it doesn't help.
Having a MIDI transcription of an audio track completely out of sync with bars is not really useful for my use (which would be export the midi to Musescore to finish the job there), so I'll continue using other third party tools for this job

I haven’t tried this feature of BIAB yet but I have a wild guess about the sync issue. Do your digital audio devices have a word clock connection? What does your audio interface and MIDI synth (if you have an external one) sync to? Is it set to Internal? What model is your audio interface? Is everything set to 44.1?

I've had this problem with BIAB for years, with different computers and different audio interfaces. All other audio programs I use work just fine. I've also read other users with similar experience. I'm pretty sure that if you try, you'll also see

Same for me. The ACW alignment challenge I grappled with for a full year and have given up. And believe me I tried so hard with the wonderful help of those on this board. I ran all kinds of experiments and still no repeatability and the complexity was just off the charts in my opinion. I now use Song Master Pro where I simply drag and drop the audio file onto the interface and BAM! everything is aligned and analyzed including auto pitch correction for an old poorly mastered recording from the tape days. Then a one button push and BAM! the stems are split and MIDI created. It makes me sad because I really want to do this with BIAB, but I just can't take the complexity and unreliability anymore. I am not complaining here, but just expressing my disappointment and frustration because I really like the core function of BB with its RT sound quality and the customer support is just fabulous. But other software for the AI features and non Real Track features are just so much better and so much less expensive in other applications.

I don’t think it’s a weakness when a digital audio program does just one thing well, and doesn’t try to add every other feature.

Only a thought. Maybe it is easier to have a feature that sets the time map based on the midi view rather than the ACW. It might be easier for a user to mark were the bars should be in a midi view rather than in the ACW.

I think BIAB would need to support non-integer tempos for that to work properly.

I think BIAB would need to support non-integer tempos for that to work properly. That has been a request since almost forever. I'm still puzzled why that hasn't been embraced. Real Band can do it with the same Real & MIDI Tracks that BIAB uses.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.

I have Song Master Pro. It's a great upgrade over "Transcribe" or "Amazing Slow Downer" but it's not really fair to compare a highly niche product to BIAB where transcription is a minor feature at best. There are lots of examples (like notation programs" where dedicated software performs better than BIAB for its given purpose, but considering the breadth of BIAB there are few programs that compare fairly on a feature-by-feature basis.
Even with MIDI transcription, the publisher recommends PRISM.

Even with MIDI transcription, the publisher recommends PRISM. One thing that Transcribe has that is unique and I use all the time is that it will also handle videos. So if you have a video tutorial (I use them extensively for guitar instruction) then you can slow down and loop both the audio and synced video. Soooo useful for me.

Yeah . I have the trial version. I tried it on a horn shout chorus (four horns) that lasted 8 bars (Dexter Gordon - Ladybird) and the transcription was useless. But it was subtle jazz. I'll try ti on a simple pop tune. It's not expensive, but I mostly do Jazz transcriptions.

I'll try ti on a simple pop tune. It's not expensive, but I mostly do Jazz transcriptions. Was the sax track correctly isolated from the rest? AFAIK there is only one stem separation algorithm specifically trained for sax, it's for Demucs and it's experimental: https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.16687I ask because I've tried many audio to midi program in the last years and Prism is one of the best available.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library.
