The latest version of Moises KICKS [*****] at isolation of horns. I couldn't believe someone finally cracked that.

But does it have an algorithm specifically designed for sax? Most programs / models do a great job isolating sax when there's only drums, bass, piano/guitar and sax, putting the sax in the "Other" (or even vocal) track

The problem is, for example, when there is a brass section. Can Moises separate sax, trumpet and trombone in those cases?

No .. It has a category called "Winds." A horn section will be extracted and isolated from the rhythm section. I suspect one day AI will be able to detect individual timbres, but I don't suspect that day will be soon.

I haven't really tried that. Never found the need. They are categories, but I suspect the similar range would make that difficult.

The ACW has always been too unreliable in this sense to be really useful to me. After syncing the whole song with the L shortcut as described in the manual and in some vídeos, the audio, sooner or later, just get out of sync for no apparent reason in MOST (not all) of the cases, which is REALLY frustrating. And yes, I've tried the "Equalize tempo" feature: it doesn't help.

Having a MIDI transcription of an audio track completely out of sync with bars is not really useful for my use (which would be export the midi to Musescore to finish the job there), so I'll continue using other third party tools for this job
This is the root of the accuracy and usefulness of ML(AI) Spectral analysis.
If the tempo map is off, all your transcriptions will be off.
This is why ACW needs more work against more use cases (more song test cases) to handle accurate tempo mapping through improved workflow capabilities.
Once timing is as accurate as possible then harmonics needed a quick way to be weeded out to avoid superfluous notes.

One thing that Transcribe has that is unique and I use all the time is that it will also handle videos. So if you have a video tutorial (I use them extensively for guitar instruction) then you can slow down and loop both the audio and synced video. Soooo useful for me.

Yes, thats how I use it also. The synced video is so very useful to have.

I wonder how much the continued use of integer tempo changes might affect this? The requests for floating point tempo settings (the same as RealBand) have been on the list for many years.

I have told this story before. I recorded a nylon guitar Bossa rhythm track from BIAB and took it into the studio to use as a sort-of click track for the band. Worked great and the recording got good airplay on Spotify. However, when the engineer took my bpm=164 track, he discovered it was 163.9+, just a hair under 164. That was my first clue that timing could be a problem.

Add a ritard to that, only using integers for bpm, and it gets worse.

How does the audio to midi works in the 2026 version comparing to melodyne. I am currently using melodyne but I do not find it accurate enough.

Martijn

Melodyne purely works off of what it calls a "blob," which is the most energetic aspect of the spectrum frequencies. For a technology that was invented nine years ago it was ahead of its time.

One of the issues was in polyphonic mode it would pick up sporadic notes based on harmonics and noise.

New modern techniques for Audio to MIDI conversion are using machine learning.
It has been taught on particular instruments such as drums, guitars, pianos, etc.

So in general it does drums really well even including mapping to general midi drums.
Bass well, its OK with guitars and piano

Melodic single-voice instruments do well.

In many cases, you will still need to edit the MIDI to simplify it.

How well does the transcription work? Sure the MIDI file do a decent job of finding Charlie Parker rhythms and notes?

I just tried out the new AI tool "extract to notes" (and extract to drums) in Fender Studio Pro 8 (ie Studeo One Pro 8).

I have just tested it with a few songs and I think it works better than when using the earlier Melodyne-extract midi method.

I have just tested it with a few bass stems and a few drum stems and a simple violin melody song.
Quite simple - extract the stems - select one of the stems - and "extract to notes" (or to drums if it is the drum stem).

It is easy to compare make two versions extract to notes and edit with melodyne/extract midi, and the listening to the two versions or compare the resulting notation in notation software.

(one can check the notation directly i SO by sending it to Notion or export the midi and import it into another notation software).
