Soundcloud - Nervous (Remix) YouTube - Nervous (Original mix) DEVELOPMENTWhile I work on a somewhat stubborn other song, I thought I'd post this one that has recently had a remix. I wrote this song back in 1984 when I was dating my now wife. I was a bit of a clumsy, nervous boyfriend, which gave rise to this song. The remix you hear in Soundcloud is from December 2025 whereas the YouTube is from August 2024, but both are almost an exact replica of the original song with only the addition of a full 'band'. I sing all vocals, bass, guitars (on YouTube), hand claps - only the drums and rhythm guitars (in Soundcloud) are from Band-in-a-Box. The BVs ('dih dih dih dih ...') are modelled on the bridge in 'Girl' by The Beatles on their Rubber Soul album. The hand claps are my own and add a nice touch I think. For bass, I'm not a natural having only taught myself over the last decade - I essentially play a series of interconnected patterns (some of which I have used in other songs). THE BANDStyle is _EMPOWER.STY (Empower Fast Uplifting Pop) RealTracks in style: ~~1011:Bass, Electric, BritInvasion Ev 120RealTracks in style: ~406:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 136RealTracks in style: 2535:Guitar, Electric, HeldChords GrittyRealTracks in song: 1259:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopShiningRockA-B Ev 120 - added into Utility track and only on Soundcloud RealTracks in song: 4164:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm RockNewWave80sPowerChCleanMute Ev 120 - added into Utility track and only on Soundcloud RealDrums in style:PopPepSquad^04-a:No cheers, Acoustic Snare , b:Clap, Ride Me: Bass Acoustic guitar x 2 - only on YouTube Lead guitar - doubled panned L and R Main vocal x 3 (triple tracked) BV x 3 Hand claps x 4 LYRICSVERSE 1 He is nervous ‘round the girl he loves When he sees her he begins to crumble Though he feels he could float, he’s sinking down under the tide VERSE 2 He is nervous ‘round the girl he loves When he tries to talk he starts to mumble Though he tries to explain, he feels like he wants to hide BRIDGE He thinks she likes him, after all she said so And though he’s so slow, he’s going to move He’s lost his timing, but he’s finding his feet now He wants her happy, ev’ry night and ev’ry day SOLO OVER VERSE BRIDGE He thinks she likes him, after all she said so And though he’s so slow, he’s going to move He’s lost his timing, but he’s finding his feet now He wants her happy, ev’ry night and ev’ry day VERSE 3 He is nervous ‘round the girl he loves In her presence he is prone to fumble Though she brings him alive, he’s feeling unworthy inside CHORDS Intro and Outro - C / F / C / G F C / F / C / Verses - G F C / F / C / G F C / F / C / Am / Dm / G / Dm / G / C / F / C / G F Bridge - C7 / F / / / / / / / C / / / / / / / Am / / / / / / / G7 / / / / / / / F / / / / / / / C / / / / / / / Am / / / / / / / G / F / G7 / / /

Andrew, a song that I can really relate. Been there - done that. Super vocal, backing band, and mix. I really liked this one.

I listened to both versions, Andrew, and I much prefer the remix. Great quirky love song.

Nice song, Andrew, the remix's little touches won me over. The first two lines of the verse reminded me a little of 'Veronica'. But your song def has its own identity and it's a good one. I played it several times so that's a good sign. Excellent work!

Cool arrangement. The occasionally pitchy vocal also suits the narrative. I dig it.

Andrew, very cool and instantly likable song. LOVE the solo. Yep, those handclaps are a nice dynamic lift. Super vocals, too! Another well-crafted pop gem. Love this kind of stuff...

Very Beatles-esque indeed. I love how you turned your diary into a song. Enjoyed my listen. A lot!

Andrew,
Great job! This has a strong early Beatles vibe, which is something that's always welcome on my speakers! You did an excellent job on the vocals!
Thanks, TB

Andrew, a song that I can really relate. Been there - done that. Super vocal, backing band, and mix. I really liked this one. Thanks Mario! This is one I enjoy listening to myself – so glad when I rediscovered it in my old songwriting papers. I listened to both versions, Andrew, and I much prefer the remix. Great quirky love song. Thanks Chay! Yes, the two rhythm guitars to replace my acoustic guitars has given it a great lift. Nice song, Andrew, the remix's little touches won me over. The first two lines of the verse reminded me a little of 'Veronica'. But your song def has its own identity and it's a good one. I played it several times so that's a good sign. Excellent work! Thanks Rob! Very happy to be put in the same pile as Elvis Costello and co-written with Paul McCartney – even if only for two lines of a verse! Cool arrangement. The occasionally pitchy vocal also suits the narrative. I dig it. Thanks Ray! ‘Pitchy’ is my middle name! I’ve learned to embrace it, not shy away from it. Andrew, very cool and instantly likable song. LOVE the solo. Yep, those handclaps are a nice dynamic lift. Super vocals, too! Another well-crafted pop gem. Love this kind of stuff... Thanks Ron! Yes it bops along and I love the positive feel to it. Those BVs and claps in the chorus – I look forward to them every time. Very Beatles-esque indeed. I love how you turned your diary into a song. Enjoyed my listen. A lot! Thanks B.D. I recall playing this for my fiancé (at the time) and she said ‘adorable’ or something similar. I’ve always operated with a healthy dose of vulnerability. Great job! This has a strong early Beatles vibe, which is something that's always welcome on my speakers! You did an excellent job on the vocals! Thanks Torrey! I can never get too much of The Beatles – even if I have to create a poor man’s version of it myself! Thank you all for listening!

Andrew, you have a real knack for finding and using riff patterns that are simple but oh-so-pleasing as motifs for your songs. I found this one enjoyably bouncing. I esp liked your idea of using the 1-2-3 lines of each verse to rhyme with the 1-2-3 lines of the next. I'm not sure how effective that is--rhyming being a "memory" thing--here it has to carry over from one verse to the next, but I think it's a real clever concept. There's one place in the bridge where you go from C-->Am->G..my "conventional" ear wanted that Am to be a D9, but that's just me. Overall, your work is so listenable, the message nice and clear, and each music element fit just right--no need to crowd any of it out with unneeded embellishments. Enjoyed it thoroughly!

Hi Grandpa!
40 years in the making!! I think you’re holding out on us. From the opening guitar work it has all the hallmarks of early 60s British pop. The dits and the clap(ping) work really well and your vocal comes across crisp and clean. Another great song that we can all relate to and weh-hey….not a diminished chord in sight!.
How’s that next challenge coming on?
Kind regards

Very cool, Andrew. I listened on YT first, and said, "Really good song. Hope the new version remains true." Happy to hear you did. Excellent guitar taste, and the Girl dit-dits are perfect. Always loved that part. Hey, the bass is fine. What a good song.

Andrew,
This is IMMEDIATELY infectious. It has all the Catchy qualities of those early 60's Pop Hits. Freddie and the Dreamers. Gary Lewis and the Playboys. Herman's Hermits. Reaching towards The Turtles.
Your lead guitar fits that perfectly, too. Your vocal, too. Love those BGVs
This should to be a classic 45. Loved it.

Kind regards Thank you Lee! Grandpa not yet. [For those reading along, our second daughter is expecting early January for their first and our first grandchild.] No dim chords? The gauntlet has been thrown down! In relation to the challenge*, I have tinkered with some ideas but nothing that has sparked my creativity yet. Tom (Tano Music) provided brief analysis of the rhyming scheme of *this* song. Andrew * Lee (Knee Wobbler) has set us two + another to write a song with a more complex rhyming structure based on motivation by this video.

Reaching towards The Turtles. … Thanks Floyd! That is my number 1 aim in my songwriting - to find something in the combo of melody, chords and backing that grabs someone’s ear. However, I realise that this is the soup I have been sitting in my whole life, whereas others have been in a different soup and might not find it appealing. But my soup? I like it … I like it a lot! Hi, Andrew. I love it - bright and upbeat, and fun to listen to. The BGVs and claps are a cool touch. As Mario said, a relatable write. The bass works nicely. Excellent.

Great pop song! Love the vocal. You have a really nice touch with this style of music. Excellent mix. Thanks Bob! While this is my wheelhouse, I’d like to break out of it for a while and record in styles from other decades. I am working on a 90s style song at the moment. Overall, your work is so listenable, the message nice and clear, and each music element fit just right--no need to crowd any of it out with unneeded embellishments. Enjoyed it thoroughly! Thank you Tom! Your analysis of the lyric rhymes across verses is something I did, but didn’t do strategically - if that’s the right word. Regarding the chord change to Am in the bridge, that is exactly as I wrote it and wanted to stay true to that. It is the most ‘minor’ part of the song, and interesting it sits under ‘happy’. … I love it - bright and upbeat, and fun to listen to. The BGVs and claps are a cool touch. As Mario said, a relatable write. The bass works nicely. … Thanks David! I do try and write positive, uplifting songs, and if ever I find I have written negatively/pessimistically, I will usually modify it. Thank you all for listening. Andrew

It grabbed us from the git go to the tag. Mix wise we like them both. The re-mix seemed more open. And we felt it had more subtle dynamics.
Nice done, well performed and a very relatable narrative. Oh, and as you and other folks mentioned the Beatle vibe shines.
Well done!
