Not Today

Here's my end-of-year contribution. Just a simple song.

The Wrecking Crew:
No AI (obviously)
RT1255 Bass, Electric, PopShiningA-B
RT2666 Pedal Steel, Rhythm LushChordsSlow
Ujam Virtual Pianist-Relic: Ujam Finisher-Neo
NI Electric Vintage
NI Picked Acoustic
NI Strummed Acoustic 2
Drums on Demand - Ballads and Slow Groove/Lotta Hat: Ujam Finisher-Dynamo

It was yesterday
With no tomorrow
When she said
It will be ok

I’ve been searching
Trying to find her
And I will
It’s not today
Living is hard
Since she’s gone away

Her picture is hanging on my wall
A thousand words left unsaid
The future matters not at all
I’ve been drawn, quartered, and bled

I felt broken
gutter beaten
When she said
It will be ok

I’ve been searching
Trying to find her
And I will
It’s not today
Living is hard
Since she’s gone away

Her picture is hanging on my wall
A thousand words left unsaid
The future matters not at all
I’ve been drawn, quartered, and bled

My heart is empty
Lacerated
And I think
I might be ok
Living is hard
Since she’s gone away

Wow!
This is a very interesting song (and I mean that in the best possible way), which had me captivated until the very end and beyond...
Lots of little details to discover and one of the best vocal performances I've heard from you.
At first, I thought the chorus was a bit too crowded, but after the second chorus, it's clear that it has to be exactly that way.
Great work, my new favorite of yours.

Enjoyed my listens.

Hi Scott!
Great song! Firstly, I love the drone quality of [? whatever instrument it is - keys?] in the verses; how to make a steel guitar not sound like one; the piano 'riff' in the chorus; and the chorus chord progression of G - Gm - D - that minor iv is the gift that keeps on giving! Excellent vocals as usual.
Loved it and added it to my BIAB favs playlist.

VERY cool power ballad, Scott. That thrumming that underpins the backing track is used to great effect, as it highlights the tension in the lyrics. It's a neat device. SUPER vocals, too! A very fast but uber enjoyable 4.5 minutes.

Love it, Scott. Love that bass-y piano and then the pluckiness that comes in. It's ethereal but also very grounded, rich and melodious. Could imagine Bowie singing it, but your voice sounds most excellent.

Thanks, Andrew. You are good at figuring out the chord progressions. It would take me a long time to do that.

Yes, one of your best! Between the drone, that repeating piano triplet that almost has a drone feel of its own, and a superb vocal, you've created a strongly evocative song. So hypnotic I keep listening and listening. Great work!

Sweet sounds. Scott. I really like how you havethe song build, then relax in a breakdown. Very dynamic. You know I really like your vocal, so I won't mention it. Excellent band (although I might take the pedal from the kick away from the drummer), and the mix is perfect. The piano adds a haunting feeling like a nagging feeling of where did she go.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Scott,

It's a sad song, but there are many things I love about it!
That deep rich piano sound is fabulous!
The NI selections sound excellent!
The single tracked lead vocal really works well here!
Your arrangement, performance and lyrics are really great!

Take care, TB

We could envision the clock hands turning and the calendar pages flipping all through the song.

We like it all, the lyric, vocals (really nice harmony), band and mix.

Enjoyed it!

The treated piano really sets up a vibe...dark.
COOL work Scott.

Hi Scott,

An impressive, dark song, with outstanding vocals!
And I was also impressed by the sound of the song.
I couldn't figure out what instrument made that dark sound, but after reading the comments here, it was a piano, or even a drone.
Whatever, a very good song!

A happy new year's eve, Scott
Hans
