Hello and Happy New Year folks. This is an old tune (1980s) with rebuilt music. The vocal was stem-separated from a circa 2000 recording. It's a bit ragged in some spots but I liked the energy. Here's the BIAB info:

Key=A , Tempo 122,
Style is _SPIFFY1.STY (Spiffy Jazz Funk Groove Horns)
RealDrums in style:Funk16ths^01-a:Snare, HiHat , b:BusySnare, HiHat
RealTracks in style: ~1433:Bass, Electric, JazzFunkGroovin Ev16 110
RealTracks in style: ~1437:Piano, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkGroovin Ev16 110
RealTracks in style: ~1436:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkGroovinMute Ev16 110
RealTracks in song: 3338:Synth, Analog, Soloist FunkJeff Ev16 110

It's put together in Studio One with a lot of help from NI, Ujam and iZotope plugins both as instruments and FX. The lyrics:

"Surprised she’s come this far
She watches for her ride
She’s had enough of shouting out
Across the Great Divide

In the hall beside the door
Sits a suitcase all prepared
So much she thought she might have said
So much left undeclared

There’s a corner inside her heart
Where the light of love has died
It descended like a fallen star
Into the Great Divide

Surprised she’s come this far
As she takes her bag and steps outside
She’s had enough of shouting out
Across the Great Divide
Across the Great Divide"

That's it, thanks for giving it a listen.

Hi, Mick! Happy New Year to you, too. Yes, I like the energy in this too. The vocal has an interesting effect. I tried stem separating once and had awful results. But this one from a recording from 25 years ago has a compelling feel. Even the harmony was treated to the same effect.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Brilliant instrumentation and lyrics. Great arrangement and mix and those horns are particularly amazing.

A real toe tapper.

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Hi Mick! Welcome to the Showcase forum!
A good song in a genre we don’t hear a lot of here. Loved the lo-fi vocal result you got from the stem split, and love that breakdown in the middle as well!
Looking forward to hearing more from you. I sampled a couple of tracks on SC and will need to go back for a full listen.

Mick, we don't hear these jazz funk Real Tracks often enough, and we almost never hear them done this well, so...Well done!

Nice job on the vocal stem recovery. The heavy vocal FX are an effective style choice. I can't help but think that a cleaner vocal might pair better with the clean percolation of your band.

Cool stuff!

Hi there Mick,

That's a great sound and mix you've got together there. It really does have that 80s Stock, Aitken, Waterman, big production feel. I like the vocals and the effects suit the song, but I would have like to hear a clean vocal...but thats just my personal preference, it works well as it is.

Great song, kind regards.

All comments very much appreciated. Thanks.
With respect to the vocal track, I may have to have a heart-to-heart with the old vocal chords to try and coax one last performance out of them instead of relying on a vocal track from the turn of the century.😊 Cheers,
Mick

Happy New Year, Mick.
You've created a nice groove here, and the brass section really drives the song forward.
Very tasteful.
As you mentioned, the separated vocal track aren't perfect, but who would have thought five years ago that something like this would even be possible?

Hi, Mick.

Fun, upbeat tune. I mean, ignoring the less than happy lyrics. laugh

The vocals were functional. I ignored the stem seperation issues and grooved to the tune.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
