This is another ReMaster of a song I originally posted in 2013.
A new mix as well.

While I was putting the original production together (all BIAB), Rodney Gene Junior (who had recently joined the forum) offered to do some guitar work.
Once he got hold of what I had, over time, he replaced all the BIAB guitars and the BIAB bass.
He also did a bunch of work (magic) on the BIAB drum track
Rodney had been a bass player and was in the process of completing 10,000 hours of electric guitar "study" (the 10,000 hours thing was big at time and he dedicated himself to it - and seemed to prove the theory).
He has gone well beyond that.
He did an incredible BIAB testimonial.
Check out his YouTube channel.
You will be blown away.

Using the tracks he sent me - (his guitars were all mixed in a single stereo file, plus a bass track, and a drum track)... I did the mix and the mastering (I had not yet completed my 10,000 hours of mixing and mastering)
So the overall sound was/is my fault. Looking back at that recently, I thought it could use a re-do.
(It is slated for the album that I am planning).

The surviving BIAB tracks:
RealTracks in song: 1726:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm HonkyTonkJohn Ev 120
RealDrums in Song: NashvilleEven8^1-a:Sidestick, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride

RG Jr - all guitars and bass

me - vocals, harmonies, mix & master

All that being said, this is another favorite (of mine, anyway)....

WRONG MAILBOX

carol put a letter in the wilhagen's mailbox
thought it was her boyfriend brett's
it said "what you did last night took me straight to heaven
i don't think that i've come down yet"
when willamena wilhagen read what carol wrote
she called her husband harold downtown
she said "don't think i don't know what you've been up to"
and slammed that receiver back down

old man wilhagen turned to bobby bartlett
said "willamena knows about the game"
mad as hell he threw a punch that nearly blinded bob
he knew his buddy had to be to blame
bob stumbled back into missy ann middleton
just as she lit a cigarette
you can well be certain when her hand hit the curtains
they went up in flames in nothing flat

that's how it happened, i swear that it's true
gotta be careful 'bout the things that you do
step on a crack and the whole world rocks
carol put a letter in the wrong mailbox

when the volunteers gathered, fire chief mathers
hit the lights and pulled out into traffic
right into the back of the carson's cadillac
just missing martha moore's maverick
martha turned hard into the mall courtyard
bouncing off of others all the while
there was flying glass and metal and when the dust had settled
there were 37 cars in a pile

with the fire truck stuck, downtown was out of luck
five blocks burned to the ground
except for the ihop and half of betty's beauty shop
there's not much left of this town
boyfriend brett said "it's a sure bet
there's no work in a town this fried"
so he headed west, but before he left
he asked carol to be his bride

that's how it happened, i swear that it's true
gotta be careful 'bout the things that you do
step on a crack and the whole world rocks
carol put a letter in the wrong mailbox
carol put a letter in the wrong mailbox

Have a little fun.
Throw whatever ya choose....

Floyd,

Wow! That song takes off and never stops! Incredible mix & master. It sounds like it was recorded in a studio. Pro sound...

Awesome hard-hitting vocal, scorching guitars and that drum track is unreal; so vibrant. Also, the story & lyric is superb - completely entertaining.

A worthy refresh for sure! Loved it!

Floyd, you posted this 13 years ago? I remembered it as it was and still is one of your best.
Rodney Gene Junior did one hell of a job on those guitar and bass tracks.
Lots of drive in this version.
As usual a outstanding vocal and lyrics - I can see Ray Stevens doing this song.
Great job on the mix.
Loved it.

Ha! Funny and fantastic tune, Floyd. Love the write. Story songs with a twist are the best.

Super lead vocals: Strong and expressive with just a touch of playfulness. Love how the harmonies are panned.

Super band, too. Those guitar fills are especially nice. BiaB has some similar fills that are technically just as nice, but Rodney's are of course by a musician who's hearing and playing to the song. Very cool. The BiaB remnants hold their own and fit right in.

Nice job with the mix. A lot of entertaining musical detail to be heard, and it's all perfectly available for the listener. A song worthy of the re-mix for sure.

Can see why this is a favorite. Same for me!

"willamena wilhagen" kinda takes away the sing-along aspect. smile SO GOOD I just had to go listen to the original --even clicked on the "if the slider doesn't work for you" link. Although it worked fine, I just had to see where it took me.

Now, back to this incredible gem. Yeow, Rodney Gene Junior was an absolutely excellent choice. As always, everything in the track is essential and mastered perfectly. Your vocal is always a favorite, and, dang, these lyrics are the best I think I've ever heard. Yeah, can't say enough about this one, and please put me on the pre-purchase list for the album.

[I recently dumped 12 albums from streaming services, and am in the process of remixing some of the songs. Daunting, but man, I learned so much from this forum that it is defintely rewarding.]

Now on to Rodney Gene Junior's YT. Thanks for it all, Floyd.

Enjoy whatever happens!

A very beautiful production, and certainly not an easy text to sing, but you pull it off masterfully. The guitars and mixing are excellent.

Yeah!

Excellent song, and excellent playing, Rodney is the real deal, great player!

I missed it the first time around, I wasn't really that active here until I hooked up with Chris in 2015, so thanks for bringing it back!

Hi Floyd,

I totally agree; this is a great rocker and funny at the same time!

The name you used in your lyrics (Willamena Wilhagen) sounds very Dutch, although we would write her name as 'Wilhelmina Wildhagen'. And I'll leave out how we pronounce it in our language...
I bet there are quite a few people with that name here in the Netherlands.

But back to your song; the lyrics are a real tongue-twister, but you make it sound so easy.
The song immediately puts you in the mood to go wild, even when no one's around!
I really enjoyed it, and I also remember you had more of those kinds of 'wild' rock songs.
I'm always jealous of the ease with which you sing/play them.

Hans

Hey floyd.

This is brilliant. Awesomeness on steroids! You really have a flair for creating entertaining comedy in song-form. Your live shows must have been excellent evenings for folks. I was reminded of "Reverend Bob's Beer and BBQ Big Tent Bible Revival." I love all the alliteration and the internal rhymes, and the story really drives along in a cascade of humorous images. It's like white-water rafting in the form of music. Honestly, I have no hope of ever being able to write a song like this however much I would like to. So I just sit back and admire and respect the black-belt level songwriting mastery that leads to such outstanding writing, arranging, performing and producing.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening smile

You know I like the little rocker Floyd in you, and this song is no exception.
Great lyrics/story and one of your best vocal performances I've heard so far.
Extremely energetic drive thanks to your prosody and choice of drums/bass and guitars - Rodney knows exactly what he's doing.
And even though fading out a song is sooo 2013 smile , I still dig the outro because the piano is fantastic.
As far as production goes, it's ready for prime time, I wouldn't change a thing.

Energetic country rocker with a strange but lively story. Amazing how all the pieces stay together despite the fast tempo - guitars, vocals (including alliterations) and even that crazy BIAB piano. Great sounding mix. Just wondering if anyone sends letters these days?
