I remember a time when I was using a Dell Axim X51 and a flip phone and swore I would never be forced into a subscription for a data plan. Now my flip phone and Axim have long since been recycled and I have subscription plans for an iPhone 16 and an iPad. We have really long since passed the point that we can compete in an AI world because the horsepower to run AI isn’t something that is affordable by the individual any longer.

I decided to take the plunge on the 1$ Studio plan and so far I’ve been deliberately trying to break it. It’s interesting that Celemony has decided to make the Essentials version of the software “later” after that make sure it’s ready to go, but they are fine releasing the paid versions now. I get the feeling that with the release of Fender Studio Pro 8 an the release of other softwere updates, they felt pressure to release as is. I’ve watched several videos and I’m on the left side of the learning curve but so far I’ve been able to screw up the timing and I’m not sure if its a feature or a bug. So far it’s not as easy as the promotional videos indicate but I’m going to give it a fair chance.

Good for you mate. I am holding out for the Essentials version. But not sure how long I can wait. I sent a note to Celemony support yesterday to ask about timing. So I may be going down your path soon. Keep us updated.

I am not interested even if it is free. Cakewalk played that game with me and thousands of others. A tethered software that can be unplugged any time they wish to do so (even after mr.Meng promised "decades", at time when Gibson went belly up). No subs or tethered software for me please.

What PGM should do is make use of AI + their catalog to enhance and expand existing RTs, so they have more variation, different octaves, inversions, etc. Make User Tracks creating process in line with a second quarter of 21st century... again, perhaps making use of AI, so there are no "shortages" of genres and other qualities.
I'm not sure that there's much out there (other than Celemony's tools) that can disassemble and reassemble audio like this, but I haven't looked in a while. And besides, there's more than one way to solve this problem. Since pitch recognition is currently quite good, audio -> midi -> audio giving users direct access to notes is feasible in BiaB (assuming someone wanted that feature. It's there already a "Use Only Chord Tones" option that does this in BiaB?

A better search tool and "smart" connections (which BiaB sort of already has, due to the sampled progressions).

It seems there are a lot of ideas here that BiaB could use, at least in terms of the UI.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I am in for 1$ Until 30 days from now. Surprised to see the download includes a standalong app for auditioning and searching the content. And even more surprized that it runs in BIAB.

Someone on Gearspace posted their first couple of hours experience with it and said that there are artifacts after editing. Someone on the Recording and Mixing forum here said that you can just download all of its loops and then cancel the subscription, and I'm inclined to think that you can't do that and continue editing. The tech is so intertwined with the Tonalics program that to do proper editing you have to have Tonalics. The other thing the guy on Gearspace said is that there is no DI option. Not sure about that so I got in for a dollar and going to check it out over the weekend.

This is a quote from Tonalic:
To search for and download the Tonalics, you need a good Internet connection. Once the required data is on your hard disk, however, you can just as easily work offline, but your access thereafter will be limited to the Tonalics you have already downloaded.

Then why not download the whole library? For one thing, because it's far too big (you couldn't download all Netflix or Spotify either, for that matter), but also because we are constantly improving and expanding the content. Online access ensures that users have access at all times to the latest and best versions of everything currently available.

The Tonalic auto download and stay up to date via online syncing. Online is not required except for online updates.

Tonalic's are not Loops. The are not MIDI. They are not just audio,
They require the Tonalic engine to render to audio in real-time.

So, if your stop the subscription you would have to Freeze or Render your existing tracks first to keep them.
In my experience the are very clean. At least as clean as the audiophile versions of BIAB.

If you want to change your Tonalic's say 6 months later you would have to re-subscribe for at least one month.

Got in for a dollar. A dollar thirty Canadian lol. It's pretty easy to use, and you can just duplicate parts on your timeline. If you zoom the timeline out you can do micro beats and chords. With guitar it's pretty extensive, rhythm chords, lines, arps, and other stuff. Pretty cool how you can just do anything on the timeline and it will adapt. Even different loops with different amp configs on the same track. So I was just adding some lines to a song that I've worked on a lot. So when I get the Essential I'll compare to the version I just bought and see what I really need. Maybe they'll add a DI option at a later date. Haven't really played with the effects yet so maybe you can just turn them all off.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
