https://soundclick.com/song/15166706I did six takes for a harmonica solo on this, but in the end, PJ Perry's lush tenor sax served the song best. So I went with that. RealTracks in style: ~732:Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Ballad Sw 060 RealTracks in style: ~742:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm Jazz Ballad Sw 060 RealTracks in style: 2952:Strings, Rhythm JazzBalladPads Sw 060 RealTracks in song: ~750:Sax, Tenor, Soloist Jazz Ballad Sw 060 RealDrums [in style:JazzTerryClarke^02-a,b:Brushes Vocal: Suno Lyrics (I kinda phoned these in, not sure why) I know that your heart has been searching, I know that your eyes aren't on me, It's not hard to believe that you want to leave, It's over, it's plain to see I know someday it will not matter I know that in time the heart heals But now I confess, my soul is amiss, Losing you, that's how it feels I know you deserve to be happy I know that you want to move on I can't face the day, when you go away The pain will be deep when you're gone I know that the future is brighter I know that I must think ahead To days full of cheer, with somebody near Who'll cherish my heart in your stead

Hi Rob,
You're right, a saxophone would be more suitable for this song than a harmonica. But I have to admit, I would have loved to hear what that harmonica would have sounded like! 6 tryings...!
I also have to admit that I'm not a real jazz fan. I think it's my father's fault. He absolutely loved jazz and always invited me along to jazz festivals and concerts. The result? I've become allergic to jazz. Although I still proudly tell everyone that I saw and heard Oscar Peterson play the piano, and Ella Fitzgerald sing with her beautiful voice, and of course, much more.
But every now and then I get a little nostalgic for jazz music again, and then I listen to some songs in that genre. Like yours now. And I have to say, you wrote a very beautiful song. Were the lyrics yours, too?
What a pitty I didn't hear you do the singing. Suno claimed that part for himself. But Suno's voice is a bit too polished for my taste. I would have preferred a smoky, raw voice singing those beautiful lyrics. Couldn't you persuade Suno to find one for you? Or do it yourself (after two (small) glasses of whisky)? I'm curious!
Hans

The vibe of the opening had me hooked straight off. Without being able to compare the harmonica with the saxophone I do feel that the latter is the better instrument for this kind of song. I've just finished a new instrumental and am in a similar quandary: I have 2 versions, one ending with an electric guitar solo, the other an acoustic guitar. The latter sounds more in line with all that preceded it - lots of strings and a fiddle solo and thus apart from bass and B3 all is acoustic - but the electric guitar solo is a better solo, so I still can't make my mind up between the 2!
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi Rob. I agree with WaoBand. The vibe of this song pulled me right into the music from the start. I love this slow cocktail-style jazz with reflective lyrics and music and words that are a perfect fit. That saxophone is stunning. It works incredibly well and really suits the overall style of this particular jazz genre. I haven't yet tried Suno but I truly admire the possibilities that I've heard here on the forum. Your song has expanded my understanding even further. Another fine addition to the forum! I thoroughly enjoyed listening --Noel

Rob, super write and uber cool laid back performances. Nice traditional backing track, and the vocalist fills in nicely. That sax solo turned out great, but I'd still love to hear your always-on-point harp. Heck, I'd love to hear you sing this, too. But that's just me being selfish. Love the song! There's a lurch in the backing track at 0:16 that may be fixable, but I'm not sure what it is. Most noticeably, the strings drop in volume rapidly. Didn't detract from my enjoyment of your awesome song though.

Hi Rob! If I had a white jacket, bowtie and martini glass, I would have used them to listen to this! It's amazing how some songs just take one to a place, and your song did that for me. Sax is good.
I followed the rhymes in your lyrics closely - Knee Wobbler and I have an assignment dealing with rhyming - so knowing your attention to prosody, I was interested to see what you did in terms of both phrasing and rhyming. Very good!

That's one sad but very beautiful song. I rather liked the smooth tones of the vocal (perhaps for the same reason that I prefer Bublé to Sinatra when it comes to jazz 'standards'). The melancholy vibe of the saxophone worked well in the mix. Great job!

Rob, lounge jazz at its absolute best. The synth vocal is outstanding, it sounds so real. Your backing band fits like a glove. Replacing your harmonica with the sax was a good idea as it belongs in the lounge jazz genre. But maybe you should post the harmonica so we can hear the difference it would have made. Great lyrics and mix. Loved it

Timeless jazz with a pleasantly mellow arrangement. The vocals work fine. I like the lyrics, especially the jump from the doubt over the break-up moment to the brighter days. The sax really serves the song, I was just wondering would it work better to have shorter sax passages, but more often.

Not exactly my favorite genre, but you did a really good job, great arrangement, very tasteful choice of instruments, and the saxophone was THE perfect choice. Very convincing singer. I could easily imagine listening to your song in a bar while drinking a good French wine. Rob,
Nice jazzy-loungey tune. The lyrics suit that nicely. Melody, too... Cool BIAB production. So easy to listen to...

Hans Hans, of course I sang a vocal to this so that Suno could copy it. But believe me, my vocal stunk. I was pretty happy with the Suno vocal, I thought it had a Buble feel. You mentioned whiskey, but whenever I want to sing gruffly, my secret is too eat a dark chocolate candy bar. That seems to work for me much better than whiskey.

I hope to get a new mic and pedal dedicated to harp soon and that will get me playing more blues for sure. I'm really excited about it, it will give me that Chicago sound that's been missing from my harp efforts. It's a chunk of change but I figure it's worth it. Funny how expensive it is to properly record a cheap little harmonica! Not really cheap anymore: a set of correctly tuned Hohner harmonicas can cost more than a US made strat. I knew about the drop-out but I was hoping I could get away with it. Guess not ; )

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
