Hi All, Here’s a bit of a vignette. This is called SUNGLASSES. Absolutely beautiful, Bob. Poignant and poetic. Love your vocals under Joliz's vocal pads. It's such a warm, visceral combination. Super arrangement, and the mix is as clear as a bell. Great playing, too! I sometimes wonder whether Collings guitars get played often enough or well enough, but not with you.  Super tune!

I loved the lyrics! I could see it all happening right there.
Joliz did a great job in the background, in the background yet still close.
And then you, Bob. A powerful yet sensitive voice that makes the lyrics come alive.

Your and Joliz's voice work so very well together. This is very satisfying listening. As Ron said, "it's poignant and poetic," and it really tugs at the emotions in a good way. I love the imagery and the journey that unfolds as the song progresses.

Regarding the guitar, this particular Collings is one of their newer models. A full hollowbody, but very thin and light. Just a beautiful instrument all around.

2 chords. Reduced to the essentials. Not even sung. Mantra-like hummed background vocals. No chorus. No bridge. And yet it works. Not just so-so, but it works really well, with your excellent lyrics contributing a great deal to this. Of course, the pop producer in me was waiting for a chorus the whole time, and it would certainly have made a big impact on the listeners if the tension had been release by a chorus at the end of the song. I really like the lyrics, and the song has a kind of anticipation. The backing vocals give the impression of a lament. A very beautiful atmosphere.

Hi Bob,
I've never been a big fan of spoken word songs -- Peter Sellers' version of Lennon and McCartney's "Hard Day's Night" was probably the worst example.
"Old Tige" by Jim Reeves wasn't too bad. But I have to say, "Sunglasses" lends a whole new perspective to the genre. Still not a fan exactly, but I have to admit I'm getting warmer!

Hi Bob and Joliz!
You have a knack of writing that paints a picture or provides a snippet, but with enough space to be able to read between the lines. Joliz’ vocal provides a constant yet melancholy feel to the music, and I love it when the B3 enters almost like a musical expression of time.
Your title is interesting as it is an incidental item that takes on such profound significance in the relationship. Its use *almost* bookends the song. There’s a sadness that the first person ‘I’ wants something different from the second person ‘you’ - their paths intersect at that place but in so many ways, going in different directions. Hmmm. I know it’s a song, but I do wish the best for the first person that he will find someone that will take his heart (if the pronoun is correctly assumed).

"Synglasses on Jesus," that's what I call the manmy many faux pas we see in movies. Man, this song is quite amazing, Bob & Joliz. The perfect 2-chord soundscape for your always fantastic lyrics. Man, I love the stories you tell, and especially the way you tell them.

Bob, you did a great job on this tune! The gradual build-up of the song was a nice touch! The Collings sounds lovely! Makes me wish I had one. Bob you are quite the songwriter! I am always impressed with the way you pen lyrics!

Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums.
