Band-in-a-Box 2010 build 298 is available

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#298

Sumary of Changes for Build 298 (March 31 2010)

Fixed: Render (if not using DXi) from Render dialog, or Part name Radio button save-as WAV file won't complain if the track is audio, or all RealTracks.
Fixed: Progress messages improved if rendering to WMA or partial range of render file.
Fixed: Russian version - font improvements.
Fixed: Crash with ASIO, exiting MIDI Driver dialog, or pressing Panic button.
Fixed: Some styles not loading all style demos, like _COWBOYR.STY.
Fixed: Dragging soloist sometimes said no music available (if it was a RealChart).

Summary of Changes for Build 297 (March 25 2010)

Added: Coyote WaveTable synth has been added. This is primarily intended for 64-bit Windows users who are unable to use the Roland VSC-DXi, since the VSC is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows.
- RealTracks picker not displaying "Ev" Even for some realtracks.
Improved: More descriptive info provided when Tempo swaps of RealTracks available, now lists the current and proposed tempo swap e.g. Bass 110->85.
- Drum track wasn't green when it was a RealTrack.
- Drag n Drop not working for Soloist Generated track.
- Dragged Frozen RealTracks with RealChart was dragging as MIDI.
- RealDrums with multiple substyles weren't saving in frozen state.
- Fiz sound in bar 3 of drums fixed.
- Frozen tracks can now have volume changes applied to them (mute etc.) by F5 dialog (realtracks only)
- Volume changes (e.g. F5 dialog - mute at certain bars) were not working for generated soloists.
- If soloist was generated on a blank song, the song wouldn't generate, just the solo would play.
- Ending chord can now have a hold on it, with or without a 2-bar ending.
Added: Message if you try to make a tag on one chorus. Tags are meant to work on songs with more than 1 chorus.
- Some patch changes were showing up on some RealCharts (eg 371).
- Drum pushes/shots leaking through during F5 mute.
- Mutes on RealTracks with time signature changes not working correctly.
- Some endings weren't playing if riffs overlapped previous one
- Generate RealTracks button not working if launched from the RealTracks button (this generates the currently selected track on the radio buttons).
- Some styles with silent drums made a sound on the HyperCanvas (drum velocity of 1 removed).
- Chord Screen would go blank with DoubleTime/HalfTime generation sometimes.
- Generate Single Track of RealTracks would generate it twice with halfTime/Double Time tracks.
- Some Bluesy realTracks (like 751) weren't playing bluesy.
Updated: Band-in-a-Box 2010 PDF manual.

Build 296 was a limited release, primarily for international (non English) versions of Band-in-a-Box

Added previously in build 295
Improved: TempoSwapping Improved:
- There is an additional option to replace the current RealTracks selections with similar ones that would work better at the current tempo. This is an option available by pressing the Realtracks Toolbar button- Select Better RealTracks.
- Yellow Message now appears if RealTracks are selected, but better RealTracks are available for the current tempo. (this message can be disabled in Prefs-RealTracks)
- RealTracks button on the toolbar now shows a menu, RealTracks picker, RealTracks Prefs, and Select Better RealTracks for this tempo.

Changed: Half Time/ Double Time changed
- The option to automatically half/double time realtrack has been removed, and replaced with a manual option, so the user has control over when/how Realtracks would be halfTimed/Double timed. The previous method of "automatic half/double time" of RealTracks caused some problems, because people wouldn't know when the RealTracks were going to be half/double timed.
To do this, visit the RealTracks assign Dialog, and use the new comboBox called "TimeBase", and set that to Normal (Default) / Half-Time / Double-Time.

Improved: Drag Drop improved.
- The feature to Drag and Drop tracks from BB to DAW sequencers has been improved. Some DAWs (Ableton, Nuendo) don't yet support direct drag/drop of tracks that aren't generated yet. So a DragDrop panel has been added to the top left of the screen. This allows you to Drag n Drop to these sequencers in 2-steps. First drag to the DragDrop panel, then when it turns green, drag/drop from the panel to your AW (Ableton, Nuendo). Note that for other sequencers (RealBand, Sonar) and Windows Explorer, you can still DragDrop directly from the track to the DAW in 1-step.

Fixed: Edit - Undo. In certain situations after a delete chord command, edit-undo stopped working.

Fixed: Nashville Notation - can now enter 'flat 3', flat 6 etc. chords - type 3bm7 for Flat 3 minor 7th.

Have Fun!

Could it be possible to have the half/double time check box added to the Real Drums?

Thanks,

Thanks a lot for fixing the exiting MIDI Driver dialog Error. It made me mad the last months.
Now quick changing from ForteDXI to Roland VSC or the new CoyoteWT works fine!

Hello,

since I installed the latest 298 build I face the following problem:
the patch change for the thru-part, which I stored along with each song doesn't load with the song anymore. It seems to be lost. (I guess it isn't; but I can't see from within the file how I originally arranged the instrument for this part.)
Always the latest chosen patch stays permanent, even when I open up another song. The only way to change the patch again is to change it manually - but which one did I choose in creating the file ...?

This problem applies only to the patch for the thru-part. Could you please help me?!

Thank you very much!

Hello Ulrich,

In the File - Save song with patches dialog, check the box 'save thru settings with songs'.

Thanks, Andrew,

for your hint. But that's not the problem. I always did this with my over 500 songs during the past 10 years. The thru patch information is stored along with the song. But after installing build 298 it's not longer available for me!
By the way: since one of the former builds the "Save + ..." option is no longer needed as by default all these information gets stored with the song. (But before this I always used this dialog in "Save + ...")

Hi,

The Save with Patches dialog settings dialog is still used to customize settings. The default is to *not* save or load thru patches with songs, which is why you need to go in and turn on that option. If you're still having trouble, please send one of the files in question to support@pgmusic.com and we'll test it out here...

Hello Andrew,

in fact, I see that there is this new option to load or save the thru patch with the song. So I will use this option when saving new(!) songs or arrangements.
But my problem still is this:
How can I get the thru patch loaded with the songs I created and saved before?! In former builds this was done automatically - and now the default setting is to *not* load what I saved before?! Why this???
Is there a general overall setting to load these patches? I'm sure they are still saved along with my - old - songs.
The problem is that I don't know for all my songs which patch I stored within the song!
It cost me a lot of time to create all the arrangements - along with the values for volume, Reverb and Chorus (... I see there's a change, too! The former "Reverb" and "Chorus" is gone. Now there is "A.Reverb" and "Tone")! I'll have to find out ...

For the moment, the best solution for me seems to be to install a former build of Biab - but that's not really what I like to do!

Greetings
Ulrich

Your thru patch *should* be loaded with the songs you created previously, which is why it would be good if you could send an example of a file where this isn't happening. We can test it out on our end and see if we have the same problem with that file. For example, if I save a song in BB2009 with my thru patch set to harpsichord using Save with Patches, then load the song into BB2010, my thru patch gets set to harpsichord which is what I would expect.

'Save/load thru patch' with your songs is just a Band-in-a-Box preference. As long as you have it set to true, your thru patch certainly should be loading and saving...

The former "Reverb" and "Chorus" is gone

MIDI Reverb is the "M. Reverb" control. Tone is more popular than Chorus so replace it on the main screen, but MIDI Chorus can still be adjusted in Opt.-Pref-Channels.
