.. and very good vocals they are John! They really suit the style. I love the phrase you start off with ... 'Okay, here we go'. I wonder how many of us say this as we arm the track and press record? I know I do ... or maybe something like 'Here goes nuthin''. Love the radio tone on the penultimate line as well.
As I'm an Aussie, I could say 'You're the under in my down'. Okay, I admit that was Dad joke calibre.
Andrew

Thank you, Andrew! I usually don't include my vocals. Funny thing about the beginning "Okay, here we go," I instantly decided to keep it in. I have a recording of "She Has a Way" where my siamese pussycat meowed a couple of times. It's not in my final master but I kept that demo track. Here in California I think we'd say, "You're the wax on my surfboard." I got the idea for the radio tone as I thought it was a novelty song that would have been recorded way back when. John

John,
My first time listening to you. Nice work!
Quirky humor, which I always enjoy. I'm not a wine drinker - although a cold Bud Light once in a while is okay. But if wine drinking results in this., maybe I should rethink that.
I've passed through Yucaipa a couple of times - lived in Bakersfield in the 90s. But I once dated the city manager of Moreno Valley. That's pretty close.
Anyway, enjoyed your song a lot. Thanks for a terrific listen,
Alan

Hi, Alan. Thank you for the introduction and for listening! Sometimes I get quirky or satirical and I'm thinking of putting those songs in an album called, "Pressing the Buttons." Most of my songs are pop songs that are a travelogue of my life, like "Stay Here Now," "Just Another Weekend," "Summer Day"... I have them on my website at https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/index.html in case you'd like to get a taste of them without scouring this site. No cookies, no tracking. I'll take a look to see what songs you have to have a listen. It looks like you're familiar with the California landscape. I've been through Bakersfield a couple of times on the way to Three Rivers on highway 65. Thank you for writing! John

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Very creative fun lyrics. Love the bluegrass rhythm section.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi John
I wonder if you’re advocating drinking and writing! Nice to hear your vocal on this number. A nice uptempo number with a humorous theme. The title and theme is quite clever, implying that the hole in the doughnut is nothing, so if she leaves she is nothing to you.
Good job John, kind regards.

Always love a song that starts out, "Okay. Here we go." Man, right from the title I was all-in, John. Some cool metaphors throughout. Well sung, and a fun, catchy tune that goes good with any significant other.

Well, I'd rather drink and write than drink and drive! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I sometimes come up with a funny or satirical song...maybe there's a bit of a Randy Newman in me.

When I muttered, "Okay, here we go," I knew right away I had to keep it in. My secret to a catchy melody is to make it lilting...make those notes make some jumps. When I was a kid my parents didn't want me to listen to rock and roll, so I listened to a lot of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, swing, classical and Mantovani. When I heard the pop songs on the radio at school, songs like "Windy," "Lazy Day," "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Honky Tonk Women," really had an impact on me. I bought a guitar when I was 20, still naive about anything outside of pop on the radio, but I knew I wanted to write catchy tunes. I put a lot of them up on Broadjam. I attributed the instruments to B. Andi Nabox. No one's figured it out yet!
