This is the first song I ever used Band in a Box for after buying it in 2020. For style I typed in Graham Nash. When I came up with the melody, I thought it sounded like something Graham Nash would write so I tried to come up with some philosophical words to go with it. I based it on the time in autumn when I drove to Los Angeles and stayed there for about a month before heading off to the Mojave Desert. The instruments are entirely that of Band in a Box. The vocals are by Clay Collins. Of course, because of the line "What book shows everything," I was told in a review on Broadjam to turn to the Bible. Sigh. https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/songs/mostofnothing_clay-march18.mp3Style is _FREEDOM.STY (Freedom Fast Folk Rock) MelodyCustom Synth is Hi-Q 049 01 Strings, Ensemble, Chamber Sforzando RealTracks in style: ~520:Bass, Electric, Pop HalfNotes Ev 165 RealTracks in style: 3217:Guitar, 12-String Acoustic, Rhythm CampfireEven Ev 165 RealTracks in style: 3172:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm CampfireEven Ev 165 MIDI SuperTracks in song: 2060:Strings, Rhythm PopCountry Ev 120 RealDrums in style:PunkRock^01-a:Closed Hat , b:Open Hat THE MOST OF NOTHING Words and music by John Walradt When I was young I went back to the city To see what I could see I saw the shops, the movies, and the beaches And people on the streets And when I came back home A question stood in front of me Is there a place where I can play and sing I looked around to find something to believe in Looking with all the most, the most of nothing. So what is true, so tell me where’s the ticket What book shows everything If on the road, well, is there such a map That can show your destiny ‘Cause love is far away, as far as the horizon You’ll have to find a place to play and sing I might find peace, I’m always compromising Make do with all the most, the most of nothing. Where are you from Do you have all the answers How did you find me here Are you still lost, or are you still a seeker Then come along with me And we’ll go far away, as far as the horizon And we can find a place to play and sing And we may find that nothing is everything Find love with all the most, the most of nothing.

Hey John! Invoking Graham Nash is a pretty good starting point in my book. I like how you’ve used this style and made it sound very natural - a good fit for your song. The tempo really motors along, and I like songs with a good rhythm. Good find with your vocalist - is he a Fivrr? Great song., Andrew

Hi, Andrew! Thank you very much for your comments and enjoyment! Stephen Stills was my biggest influence from long, long ago. I listened to CSNY over and again. I typed in Nash's "Southbound Train" to find a match and, as you mentioned, it had the rhythm. The vocalist is Clay Collins on FiveRR. I've used him several times. John

Hi John.
I enjoyed that. I loved the vibe, the story-telling and the chord progression. It's a very catchy melody that you've created.

Hi John
I think you have captured a CSNY feel on this song. A great busy rhythm that really carries throughout the song. Apart from repeating “The most of nothing” at the end, it doesn’t have a chorus element, which certainly qualifies it into the category of a storytelling verse only song.
Nice job, kind regards.

Hey, KW. A pleasure to see you again. I always have tunes come to me first and they have the feel of something that gives me the title and what the song will be about. Sometimes I have to wait months before I know what the melody is going to be about. I could tell right away that the melody with the Graham Nash feel was going to be called "The Most of Nothing." I was playing some chords one afternoon and the notes came to me instantly. I just can't force such a thing. One thing I really like is when I wake up in the morning with a new tune in my head. I've had that happen about four times.
