This is a remix of a song we first released in 2018:

I redid the drums for this version, and Chris redid her vocal. Marty Straub also joined in on bass. When I opened up the original project file I noticed a piano track from Chris that was muted out, I think at the time we thought it was too busy. It did however sound perfect during the chorus, so I added it there for this version.

There is a link at the end of this post to the original version of this song if anyone is interested.

The Band:

692:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming AcRockBright Ev 120 (A:sync)

Bass: Marty Straub (BabuMusic). The original version used Bass Realtrack: 683

Drums and Percussion: Ezdrummer3
Piano: Chris Spruit
I played the electric guitar parts

Mixed in Reaper using plugins from Waves and iZotope, mastered with Ozone12

The Traveller (2018, Christiane Spruit)

A world outside my window
a world behind my eyes
I drive the unknown highway
drawn in by the lights

CHORUS
all right
check in within 100 Miles
tonight
leaving no track and ride
into the presence of my mind
tonight

You said I am always leaving
when it is getting rough
you know that I am a traveller
no I can't get enough
CHORUS
(check in within 200 miles)

I never meant to hurt you
Never meant to to you harm
but I am just a visitor
there is no home in my heart
CHORUS
(check in within 300 miles)

You can hear the original version here: The Traveller(2018)

Dave,

Spectacular!

Love the mysterious opening and the way you bring the drums in. Chris sounds so awesome here. She’s an amazing singer. And yes, the piano sounds excellent! Some great bass lines as well.

This remix is truly outstanding and pro. Love everything about this song!

This is new to me. What a great vibe this song has! I also like the mileage increases, that was clever The usual perfection from BA! Great work!

Slithery and cool. That's a dynamite opening, and the vibe hums on all the way through. Putting that piano back in the way you did was a nice choice, too. Always love your guitar work, Chris' vocals and Marty's bass. You've got a SOUND and it's SUCH a nice one.

Hi Dave (and Marty and Chris)
I like the layering of instruments as they each take their turn to come in. The intro contains a lead guitar motif or variants thereof that reappear throughout the song - adds a continuity which reinforces a long travel. Good use of 100/200/300 in the chorus and also heard other lines omitted from the chorus each, and this changed each chorus - still sounding familiar but different.
A good write, good singing and good playing - really good to listen to.

Really excellent soft rock track! Musically it's 100% all around and that piano really does work a treat in the choruses. Very, very well done to all! Superb song.

Hi Dave,

A great song and production, Chris’s vocals are perfect and Marty’s bass is on form.

I don’t like to point out a song that is very similar, but it really struck me straight away. You need to check out Drive by Joe Bonamassa. Obviously a male vocal on Joes, but the theme and maybe the chord progression is similar. Maybe an instance of simultaneous creative convergence.

Great song nevertheless. Kind regards.

Hi Dave,

I already posted my reaction on YouTube, but I'm listening to it again now!
Great song, great singing, great lyrics, great solo, but why did Marty get fired?
Oh, I see now, he wasn't fired. Thank goodness Real Track 683 got fired!

The song has a nice tempo and rhythm, and everything sounds clear and flowing.
I love these kinds of songs, but you knew that already ;-)

Yeah, it would have been just before you joined the forum I guess. By 2018 we had probably done 50 songs or so. It's been fun breathing some life back into our favorites, so there will be a few more of these over the next few months.

Thanks, Bob!

Top shelf. The mix is terrific. Well balanced. The vocal is great and sits where it should, guitar too.

Hi, Dave.

Nice, wide mix. I love how the intro brings the instruments in.

Of course, from that point it only get better. Vocals, guitar, everything - sounds great!

Are you bouncing that piano from side to side? laugh

So good!

Hi Lee,

No worries whatsoever about pointing out the similarities with Drive. I'm a huge Joe Bonamassa fan, I've seen him perform three times and have heard most, if not all, of his catalogue. "Drive" is one of my favorite songs by him, and I wanted to do something with a similar groove. Chord progression is probably the same, it was 2018 when we recorded this so I don't remember exactly. But it's just a simple three chord song, I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of songs using the same progression.

Good ear!

Man, this is so good, Dave. You and Chris are genii crafting the songs you do. I'm quite thrilled you are redoing some of the old ones, AND asking me to play a small part. Seems you, me and Floyd are all remixing older creations.

Enjoy whatever happens!
