Original tune - I play Strat & P90 guitars, piano/rhodes/wurly/hammond/bass
on the keys and had a try with Addictive Drums 2 (I'm no drummer):

Hi Carl

This is a nice contemplative instrumental, which pays respect to the most iconic guitar ever. Really well played and composed. Nothing wrong with the drum track, it works really well.

Super job Carl, kind regards

I'm so jealous of your multi-instrumental talent! This is a nice mellow piece as we've come to expect from you. I wouldn't call it funky or bluesy by any means, but it's very good in its own right. Well done!

Another serenely relaxing instrumental, Carl. But this time I have a criticism. I thought the drums were too hectic for the piece - I'd have used a simple beat - plus that hi-hat (I assume) made a scraping sound, which didn't fit.

Thank you very much Chay for listening and for your constructive comments -
funny how we all hear things differently, I have a feeling the top end of the EQ
was too high overall? Will look into it and see if I can come up with a useful
correction for what you're hearing! - at my advancing age it's also likely
that I may not hear what you can hear, so I'm grateful that you pointed
this out!

Hi again Chay - I had another look at this project
and found an excessive boost at the very top of
the freq range, this may have caused 'sibilance'
or high frequency distortion which you may have
heard as 'hi-hat scraping'! I have now trimmed
the excess and hope that serves some way to
help you feel it's less of an interference?
Regarding the drums - I started this project
with the drums because I liked the feel and
pace, then built the track up gradually. If I
simplified the drums, that would rip the 'soul'
out of the tune for me - my son and brother
loved the drums & the whole track!
Thanks again for your critique and I'm chuffed
that you found the tune ok otherwise!

Carl, this is fantastic
Love the smooth groove
I wouldn't call this funk or blues. I would call it smooth jazz and this is as good as any smooth jazz song I have ever heard.
Outstanding chops on all of your instruments.
Great mix.
I know everyone hears differently and has an opinion so my opinion is that I think the drums fit very nicely in this song: no offense intended to those whom think otherwise.
You have posted some fantastic song but IMHO this is your best to date.
Loved it

Not gonna lie, I’m not a great fan of instrumental music.

However, everything about the groove, instrument selection and super clean recording process makes this shine!

No words needed, I could feel what you’re putting down!

Loved this.

Hi, Carl.

This sounds great - an easy-going groove that reminds me of the Eagles sounds back in the 70's. smile

Chill instrumental is an apt descriptor. Your guitar work is expressive and the work of a master craftsman. I very much enjoyed the listen: I found the whole piece uplifting.

Different for you, Carl. But there are some common threads that connot be ignored. Your virtuosity on so many instruments, your ingenuity in creating changes, your ability to captivate your listeners. What a wonderful arranmgement, too. And now you're a drummer. For my ear, the drummer always defines the song, and the bass player outlines it. TO my ears you always reward it with such outstanding melody. Next time say, "I ain't no drummer," because the double begative will convey the truth.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Marty - this old brain & these old fingers can't play fast
or very fluid any longer, so when someone rewards me
with such nice comments it prods me to push on!
Thanks so much for your generous comments and
for listening - biting cold wind here from the east so
gotta go out and stack logs for the wood stove, and
get cold hands & fingers yet again!

Best to you Marty,

Carl
