After doing some experimentation, I have confirmed that on my computer my PowerTracksDirectX Plugins location is at c:\programfiles\PowerTracksDirectX Plugins and I can see the plugin presets in that folder. There's a long list of files in there with most starting with PG and have the names of the effects. However, since I had installed my 2022 version of BIAB / Realband on my F:\ drive years ago I also have a f:\PowerTracksDirectX Plugins folder with the same presets. That folder has the date that I installed my 2022 version.

I also checked my registry with regedit. The registry does not contain the plugins - it only points to where the plugins are installed on whatever hard drive(s) you might have. In my case I found both c:\ and f:\ PowerTracksDirectX Plugins listed. To muddy things up a bit, my 2026 version of BIAB / Realband is on my I drive and there is no PowerTracksDirectX Plugins folder anywhere on my I drive, so my presets are probably all directed to the PowerTracksDirectX Plugins on my C:\programfiles folder.

So the bottom line is if you have several hard drives, you might want to see where the registry is pointing to your PowerTracksDirectX Plugins folder and check that folder to see if the presets are there.

-goto regedit (Win R type in regedit) > then be sure "computer" is highlighted at the upper left of the tree right above the words HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
-goto Edit>find type in pgmusic in the find what box then press 'find next'
-you'll stop at several windows as the search progresses and press F3 to find next until you see PG_DX_Plugins_64_is1 in left column
-look in the right window at InstallLocation
-lookin right window for location of PowerTracksDirectX Plugins
-that is the hard drive location where your presets should reside
-keep pressing F3 until done to see if your PowerTracksDirectX Plugins location is listed under another hard drive if you have more than c:\ drive on your computer
-goto the location of your presets on your hard drive(s) and see if the list of preset files are there.

That should tell you if you indeed have the presets installed on your computer or not. After that it's just a matter of copying the presets from wherever they are on whatever hard drive they are on into the location where the registry is pointing to and then trying that for success, or reinstalling BIAB / Realband and repeating the search above to see if you have success.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MAKING ANY CHANGES IN THE REGISTRY. YOU ARE ONLY LOOKING, NOT TOUCHING - ONLY USE "FIND" AND THEN THE F3 KEY.....

I'd definitely try a re-install for most users.
You won't lose songs, and it's safer.

I work for an IT company, and I am comfortable in RegEdit, but only because I know you NEVER EVER change something in there without trusted directions.
You can either work a miracle or turn a computer into a bulky doorstop.

So heed BluegrassPicker's warnings about changing anything.
As he said; copy the files to where the registry is looking for them (if needed). Do NOT change the path in the registry to point to where you think it should look.
That's called bricking a system and it's not pretty.

I'm very curious if his BB & RB original installation back in 2025 or whenever it was done is on the exact same HD that is in use now, and also if that drive has always been the C:\ boot drive. As you know, things can change.

I agree that a re-install would be a good and probably best start for the easiest quick fix (hopefully). If he is going to install on anything other than the boot C:\ drive, then he'd probably want to pay attention to the folder assignment screen when it pops up in the install routine. I'd really like to have him make a copy of the existing BB and RB folders before beginning a re-install "just in case" so he can revert back if things go South.

My 20+ years as a IT contractor / consultant for businesses in the past having troubleshot *many* of these kind of things makes me very curious of if he did a file search on the boot C:\ drive for one or two of the preset files such as PGReverb64.dll (on my computer that file is dated 11/25/25) or an older file such as PGEchoChorus64.dll (on my computer that file is dated 06/19/2020) what would be the result and where would they be located if indeed they were found.

I like your advice though for the re-install which is definitely good advice for what should hopefully be the easiest fix. It's just my extreme curiosity that pushes me to find out why it's doing what it's doing. I think I know that you know what I mean, bro... smile

All the very best,
BluegrassPicker

It only loads the barest minimum number of files onto the computer that Windows needs to get the program running. The process includes writing to the registry, adding drivers and adding any needed folders to the c:\program files folder.

After running the minimum install, there would only be a minimum change in your used diskspace because the installation will overwrite existing files.

Also, after running the minimum install, you would probably need to reload the most recent update for your version of BIAB/RB.

+1
Noel's minimal install is the next easiest logical step to solve this.
A quick reinstall if you will ...

Wow! what a wealth of knowledge we have in these forums. Thank you all.
I might try the suggested "easiest logical step" to solve this: a quick reinstall.
Pardon my ignorance, but what's the best way to achieve a quick/minimal install from the PG Music My Products website.
Thanks again,
Mike

Download the available BiaB installer and run it, paying attention to selections during install
You will see Minimum install option
You may also notice where you can opt to install the plugins; say yes if offered.

Like Noel mentioned, afterwards it's best to run the latest updates after, which I pointed you to earlier.

Reinstalling the PG DirectX Plugins will probably fix it. You can find the installer in the bb folder:
C:\bb\Data\Installers\pgdx_plug_64bit_2_0_0.exe

The plugins (64bit) are installed here:
C:\Program Files\PowerTracks DirectX Plugins

To specifically restore the default PG presets you could run, this (but shouldn't be necessary)
C:\Program Files\PowerTracks DirectX Plugins\Save-Restore Presets\RestorePGPluginPresets.exe

Thanks Andrew. I was just about to do the quick install when I saw your post.
I tried your suggestion and voila! It worked. The presets are back.
Thanks everybody for your help.

That's knocking it out of the park!

Wish they all could be that easy - kudos to PGM for putting that function in their software package. Their crystal ball was working well when they were building BB.

Great responses from everyone here, and thanks to Andrew for chiming in with the right-on-target easy solution.
