I have transfered the entire /bb folder to the new computer and an not sure what the next step is.
I found a thread from a few years back that said "run the installation program from your latest version of BIAB and do the minimum install into your new computer's \bb and \Realband folders"
I found the file named "bandinabox_realband_2025_pluspak.exe" from my last purchase. If I transfer this one and run it will I end up with everything from the old computer now installed on the new one. Including all the style paks and realtracks etc which go back years?
Is there anything else that has to be transfered?
I know I will have to do a style rebuild and activation.
Thanks
Tony

I have found setup.exe on the original PG 2025 flash drive so I assume it is best to use that.

Hi Tony,

Yes, you will want to run the install for the program as it does need to write files to your internal drive in order to function properly.

If you need further assistance, please contact us directly.

Thank you!

As mentioned, that instruction for the minimal install is correct. There are a few PG Music fonts needed to view notation, and without them you cannot see the notation. Also I think newer versions have some VST info stored on your boot drive. All these files are relatively small.

One other thing to consider these days is the Playable Realtracks and the audio files created by PG Music for the Sforzando soft synth default sounds for MIDI SuperTracks. These are stored in "C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc".

I'm not sure that these files are installed by the PlusPak upgrade. I suspect that if you want to use playable Realtracks, it will be necessary to either copy this directory from your old computer to your new computer or to run the minimum install from you most recent full update and then so a minimum install of the PlusPaks needed to reach BIAB 2025.

I might be wrong about this, but if you don't use Playable Realtracks or Sforzando, there would most
likely be no need to install these files.

Thanks Catherine

Well I went ahead as discussed above and ran into a problem with most of my styles on the new computer being N/A. I submitted the following description of the problem to tech support.

.........For the first time ever I am having trouble installing my 2025 BIAB from my existing computer to a new one. I am moving from Win10 to Win11. I tried the following.
1) Copied the whole C:/bb file to the new computer C drive. I checked that the bb file was unchanged in the process so all my styles etc should have been transfered to the new computer
2) Ran the “bb2015_setup.exe” file from my 2025 Pluspak USB Stick
BIAB appeared to be installed but about 90% of the styles were listed as N/A even after I had done a style rebuild. I have always had the program and styles and realtracks etc installed in C:/bb, never anywhere else.
I have deleted the BB folder on the new computer but before I try this again I wonder, am I doing this right and if so how do I make BIAB recognize my styles on the new computer........

I got an acknowledgment from Ember but haven't had any suggestions yet. It feels like I am talking to an AI computer!

Thanks
Tony

I bought an Asus Zenbook 14 UX3405CA. It has 32GM of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an Intel Ultra 7 255H processor. As you can see from my post about my troubles transferring from the old computer, I haven't been able to test it on BIAB yet!

Tony, run the Cleanup utility to ensure all the folders are in the right place. It can’t do any harm. I’m not at a computer but you’ll see it in a menu.

EDIT: Help, Utilities, Run Cleanup Routine

Be sure you have a copy of your old, existing BB and RB folders that you've been using on your old computer. Don't make ANY changes on them. Keep those.

Go to the STYLES folder on the newly installed BB folder tree on your new computer. Highlight the STYLES folder, right click COPY and then highlight the BB folder and click PASTE. That should give you a STYLES- Copy folder. Now your newly installed STYLES folder is backed up as-is. Rename the STYLES folder on that new computer as STYLES-NEW_INSTALL.

Go to the old BB folder on the old computer and highlight STYLES and then copy -NOT MOVE- that folder to a flash drive or something and then go to the new computer and PASTE that STYLES folder into your new computer's BB folder. You might have to do something different if not via flash drive or whatever, but the idea is to get your STYLES folder over to your new computer inside the BB folder.

When done, run BIAB on the new computer and do a rebuild and see if you have success. IT MIGHT TAKE SEVERAL REBUILDS. Mine did.

If no success there, you might want to go to the support section of the website and your purchased files should be there available for download and reinstall. You would probably want to use the automated install program. If you do go that route, first rename your existing BB folder on your new computer to something like BB-NO_GOOD or something before you begin so that you're guaranteed to have a fresh install. After you have success you can delete the BB-NO_GOOD folder whenever you're happy. PG might have other ideas, but the above worked for me when I had to do some juggling around with upgrades and different HD's. YMMV, but just throwing out ideas hoping something helps.

I will wait for your email, I don't want to go down any rabbit holes.
Meanwhile I haven't touched my old computer where everything is running smoothly.

If you have a full working bb folder on your old computer, you just need to:

1. Copy the bb folder from the old computer to the new computer (as you did)
2. Install the program installer for your most recent version (which you also did - 2025). Run and activate the program. You can de-active first from your old computer to free up an activation.
3. You should Rebuild in the StylePicker window

There are no other steps. Make sure you installed 2025 to the same folder you copied (e.g. C:\bb). If you did and you are have this problem, give one specific example of a style that appears to be N/A. e.g. Is there a message that appears and when does it appear? It should be easily fixable but you need to give one specific example, this will lead you to figuring out what the problem is.

Thanks everyone who replied.

It looks like the problem is fixed but I don't really know how.

I deleted the C:/bb file from the new computer and transferred a new copy from the old computer. I ran the setup.exe file from the original PG 2025 flash drive and this time there is not a single N/A style in the Style picker. The only thing I deliberately did differently from the first time was to do a fast style rebuild instead of a slow one, but all the third party styles are being listed correctly.

Tony and any Forum Lurkers.

be advised that new computers can often cause problems if they are not specifically optimized for music production. I've seen it too many times.

For more information read my tips in the PG tips forum regarding buying a PC for music production.

I realize it's resolved, but that one made no sense.
