When I played this melody, Lora told me it should be a song about the kind of weather that's between autumn and winter. She got the inspiration for the lyrics from a mistake a weatherman made, calling the rain and snow as rainflakes. I put the song together with a retro feel of a 1970s song. It peaked at #2 Earth on Broadjam's charts. Vocals are by Liv Clark from the east coast of Britain.

RAINFLAKES Music: John Walradt, Lyrics: Lora Walradt

In that season between seasons
No longer in the fall
It really isn’t winter
It’s not anything at all
There’s always a little rainfall
There’s always a little snow
Rainflakes swirling
In a gray sky over all.

And I’ll never see tomorrow
Just like I see today
Nothing’s really clear when you’re away
Rainflakes. (Snow and rain.)

In that season between seasons
When the weather makes no sense
Just a cloud of indecision
And a loss of confidence
I guess it won’t seem normal
As far as I can see
No, it just won’t seem normal
Until you’re back with me.

And I’ll never see tomorrow, Just like I see today
Nothing’s really clear when you’re away
Rainflakes. (Snow and rain.)

Hi John!
Good one! I can see why it peaked so high on Broadjam. The cello entering in verse 2 was cool, and while it’s easy to pick out the BIAB ooos and ahhhs, they add a lot of colour. Liv Clark’s vocals are touching and she had good harmony lines. Her voice reminds me a little of the NZ artist Bic Runga. I like your chord choices as well.

Hi John,

Wow, it was great to hear your superbly-written, well-crafted 70's-style pop tune! Both the music and lyrics were excellent, IMHO.

I enjoyed your production and use of BIAB: the piano, then the strings or synth coming in, the cello in the second verse, the sax before the last chorus - all were nice touches that took your song to a higher level.

And Liv Clark did a wonderful job on the vocals! Where did you find her, and is she available for hire?

Thanks,
Bob

Hey, Bob! Thank you very much! I'm pleased that you liked it so well. I know Lora, who wrote the lyrics, will be pleased, too. The vocalist, Liv Clark, is on FiveRR. Other vocalists I use are Sofi Berro from Five RR on "Just Another Weekend," Marilyn Simone from AirGigs on "I'm Not Coming Back," and Solohead from Airgigs on "Summer Day." Instead of scrolling around, you can find all my songs on my web page: https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/index.html

Hey, Mario! Great to see you again! Thank you for you pleasant trip back to the 70s with that song. I hope the 60s, 70s, and 80s styles of songwriting come back!

Okay, now it's getting weird here for me, John. I just finished remixing a song called Rainin', then the first song I see here this morning is Rain by Sol, and the second one is this really cool one of your, John. Of the 3, yours is the winner. Oh, I love these lyrics --tell Lora I love her lyrics. (you're too young to get that pun, i guess). Really like how the lyrics came about and the word Rainflakes.

Good production, and Liv's vocal is wonderfully engaging. This one was number 2, and of these 3, it is now number 1. Cool sax solo, too.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey, Marty! It's always wonderful to see you here. I'm looking forward to hearing your remix of "Rainin'." Anyway...rain. Weird, huh? Yep, I don't know what it is about "rain" songs! In 2022, I released what I consider to be my most beautiful song, "Raindrop Soul." At the same time, two other songs were released, "Raindrops" and "Between the Raindrops." It's as if the three of us got together and said, "Let's all write a song with Raindrop in the title and release them!"

If you have an inclination to further get drenched, "Raindrop Soul" is at https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/songs/raindropsoul.mp3

Yep, Liv has a beautiful voice. She's from England. I used Liliia Kysil, who is from Kiev, Ukraine, on "Raindrop Soul." She has a very lovely voice.

John

Great vocals, lovely instrumentation and a flowing almost Carpenters vibe. You wrote that Live Clark is from the east coast of Britain. Do you know where as I'm in what I call the 'wild middle east' of England aka Lincolnshire.

Hey, WB, I looked up where Liv Clark resides a few years ago and I tried looking it up again. I just chanced on it...Redcar, next to Middlesbrough. Farther north than I had thought. I think she's in London now.

Thank you, Scott! I'm happy you enjoyed it. I've been through Alberta once...majestic to the west and very beautiful along the plains.

Hi John,

What a funny idea: raindrops! So, flower flakes for Lora, she deserves them!
And you wrapped it all in a beautiful melody, with those lovely lyrics!
Liv sang it all so well. A beautiful voice and vocal harmony. Give her flower flakes too!
