I am just curious to see if any of you are complimenting your music with AI and creating Demo's with it and re-doing it in "Band In A Box" ? Just curious. I have been playing around with SUNO AI, but still writing all my own lyrics, and creating my own chord progressions, and coming up with my own melodies. I start with the guitar, get a rough demo, get that into my computer, add drums, piano, and singing it. Then, I upload it into Suno AI and it gives me a finished demo, that way I can see what changes I can make into whatever style I want my song in. Then I re-create it in "Band In A Box" I have 2025. Then I add other instruments in, mostly me playing taking all the AI out of it. Then I delete it off of the Suno platform so that there is no trace of the output from Suno, that equals no watermark, because I re-created all of the music myself in "band In A Box", and myself playing and singing of course. I do it this way so I can pick a style of music that my song best fits. Let me know if any of you are doing it this way, and if your for or against AI music. I think that this is just a tool of many, like the guitar, piano, keyboard, Autotune, even Band in a box. Let me know what you think and how you all create. I would be interested in your stories. I am just testing the waters here, I.E. the AI tool.

Hi, Trapper. I use my guitar for composing the melody but I very seldom use them in my recordings because, after 50 years, I still play like a novice! Band in a Box completely changed my songwriting life! I use it to put in all my instruments though sometimes some friends of mine from other states and the UK who are very good musicians will play some of the tracks. My preference is to use human vocals. As AI goes, the big difference are the words "royalty-free." If you use royalty-free software like Band in a Box or online royalty-free services, you are legally safe. Copyright laws make it legally yours and you can register your songs under your copyright. Suno, like several other AI services, are in uncharted and risky territory as copyright goes because their database has works by other artists which can constitute copyright infringement. Softwares can parse the track into its parts and detect if AI was used. The Copyright Offices, many sync libraries, and the UK Songwriting Contest will not accept music produced with AI. It looks like you're very careful in these regards. But here's a kicker: when you upload your original tune into Suno, it goes into their database and other people can use it, even though it does get deconstructed. It is about as unlikely any tune of yours in whole would be stolen as an asteroid hitting Bozeman. But the fact that if someone uses deconstructed/reconstructed bits of your original work without your permission is still an infringement of copyright. There is another service that has started up: Ace Studio, that is geared more for music producers that is royalty-free, appears to have integrity, and that may be worth looking at. My personal take on AI for the so-called creation of art and composing music and lyrics to me is an insult to artists and songwriters, and is superficial and soulless. Most AI generated songs lack the genuine human touch and emotion, and are most often mediocre. This is a very good subject and worth looking into more.

Hi Trapper, I really appreciate your questions and curiosity, so I'd like to share my perspective. Of course, I have to start with the past:
I used to play guitar and compose my songs on it. But I had a stroke and was temporarily paralyzed, including my speech. Fortunately, that has healed. Playing guitar did become a lot more difficult. And then I discovered BiaB. With it, I could compose again and try out all kinds of instruments in my compositions! BiaB was, and still is, my foundation for composing and singing. From there, I edit or add things in my mixing software.
I saw the rise of AI, especially for vocals. I tried it, but I didn't like it. Programs like Suno are interesting because they've gotten really good and work much faster and better than humans.
Still, I prefer to continue composing and singing myself, because that way you can always come up with surprising musical ideas that you wouldn't otherwise think of. And that's why AI doesn't do that either. These days, I only use AI to check my English lyrics for grammatical errors.
Therefore, I hope that "doing it yourself," with or without programs like BiaB, remains the primary way of making music here. Perhaps apart from AI voices. But I fear it will become increasingly difficult.

I will often use the idea from AI or give it my own ideas and music/lyrics to see what it would do. I'll edit the parts, and deconstruct the song. I analyze what parts I can play, and if I determine that I can, I will play the piano, strings, guitars, and bass or the other option is to use Real Tracks. I often like the "feel" that AI imparts to it's version and I try to get as close to that same groove as possible.
It's part of my work flow. I will rebuild the song in BB and then select the style that best fits and rebuild the song from there. I've been using AI vocals for a lot of the productions with several of my songs in the latter part of 2025 being nearly all RT's and live tracks with AI vocals. AI vox have gotten so good even the professionals can't tell.
Since I write music for the purpose of sync placement, and sync libraries and publishers are currently 100% set against using any generative AI in the creation of the music and lyrics, I don't use it in the music I submit to my publishers. (mostly due to the inability to obtain copyright on machine created content) Most of that music, due to the restrictions and requirements of the publishers themselves, never gets posted here. So the things I post here are for fun and personal enjoyment 99% of the time, and that has no prohibitions against the use, or abuse of AI.
It's often a pretty big challenge to merge the AI music into something that I find to be a quality production. A lot of my songs that get started, never get finished because of some sort of glitch that ruins the project.

I have a permanent license for ACE Studio to generate choral demos for a few clients. This can import MusicXML from a notation app giving me notes and words to which I assign singers or ensembles. For what I do, the $528 license has paid for itself. Being based in China, not one of their "singers" pronounces American English or Latin convincingly. Since I'm doing demos, I don't care. The downside to this in-the-box app is that rendering a 3 minute 4-part choral track takes a couple hours in my Mac Studio M2 Ultra 192GB RAM 8TB SSD. If I'm going to do a lot of this, I'm "going to need a bigger boat". I've tried other AI apps but haven't found any worth a damn for use in my creative process.

I don't use generative AI in composing songs. I just enjoy the music creation process too much to give it up.
I might use generative AI in backing tracks if the results sounded significantly better than what I can do with BiaB, or if AI could do it significantly faster. I have a Moises Pro license but find that it takes me longer than in BiaB, and I don't like the results as much. I do think some aspects of a Moises-like interface, including plain language input, is something that BiaB will need to have one day SOON.
All the songs I post here (so far) are me, my brother (lyrics), sometimes Dusty (human vocalist) and BiaB. I don't get paid for what I do, it's just for fun, and I'm having LOTS of fun...

I don’t use AI in songwriting or recording/mixing. The closest I’ve come is asking Copilot to give me 5 lyric themes (then the full lyric writing is mine) and twice I think I have used Copilot to suggest some lines when I was running dry and needed another verse. In one song, I uploaded a 5 second vocal to Resing and got it to convert it to a female voice, but that’s it.
I write all my own music and lyrics and do all my own production and arrangement, and BIAB can be anywhere from 10 to 100% of the band. Vocals are always my own. I’m not a great singer or guitarist, and I step out of my comfort zone regularly when recording these. I prefer the idea of the human behind the music and even if that human is flawed, I like the idea that an imperfect artist has created a song with their own imagination and with the tools and skills available to them. AI results (e.g. Suno) are certainly impressive, and I understand why it is attractive for a writer to hear what it has done with their song that they couldn’t, but for me, I place a higher value on what I can do myself, even if it might not seem as polished.

Andrew I pretty much agree with your entire post but quoted the best bit . . . I would rather have a "flawed" song that comes from the heart and soul of a human than a digital math problem turned into sound. I can with 100% confidence say - I will never use AI for anything to do with my music and 98% confident I won't ever trust it for anything else either . . .

I agree with everything except never using AI. I can see a number of effects using AI, such as EQ, mixing, delay, etc. As long AI only gives presets that can be modified by a human then I have no problem with it.

When we left the bluegrass world after decades BiaB enabled us to work with genres we had long listened to but never performed or recorded, i.e., Americana and Blues Rock. The BiaB journey has allowed us to license 28 songs and get many thousands of streams on various platforms. For us the fun factor is knowing that many folks other than family and friends like what we are doing. That is worth a lot to us. And of equal importance that journey has made us long lasting real friends.
And while we have zero desire to depart from that journey we have no disrespect of those who enter the AI music world. FWIW, we both retired from healthcare careers and I will mention that AI seems to be performing much better for musicians than for folks in need of mental or physical healthcare. To date the results of that are scary and I have followed it.

Well my position is pretty clear but I'll have to admit it might seem hypocritical since I have no problem using band in a box for backing tracks or "additional instrumentation" such as drums and bass. And I absolutely love band in a box.
But I absolutely 100% hate the hell out of Suno songs. Hate them. Hate them hate them hate them hate them hate them hate them hate them.
To the extent that I'm thinking about leaving certain groups that now are 100% comprised of people showing up to play their latest Suno composition that sounds like some piece of artificially generated crap on commercial country radio.
There aren't words enough in the English language to explain how much I hate these songs. They all sound exactly the same. Something you might hear in the inner circle of hell in the bowels of the bottomless pit in a music session being supervised by Simon Cowell.
They are simply not real songs. They are fake songs, or even worse than fake, I find them to be a violent assault on every one of my senses. Especially my sense of taste. Many people using Suno openly and freely admit that they have absolutely zero musical knowledge or any musical abilities of any kind whatsoever but simultaneously they want you to accept the fact that they wrote and produced these things. It's horrific. I can tell these Suno songs from the first second and I immediately scream and run into the other room and put my fingers in my ears.
I mean I don't even have enough words in my vocabulary to cover it properly. These Suno songs are God awful. And those voices!!!! Jesus please make it stop!!!
I literally can't bear to listen to this stuff, it's like musical and psychological torture.
And yet I realize that logically speaking someone could call me a hypocrite because I use band in a box to generate drums and bass and occasionally other instruments too although I like to play most of the stuff myself, and sing the songs myself, even if I don't have the greatest voice, because I hate the sound of AI voices, especially if they sound too good. It's truly a nightmare world for me.
And this will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever change.
If I know going in that it's an AI song I won't listen to it.
And for all the people saying "well it's the wave of the future just accept it," do you really want to accept a world in which the music industry now has driven down its cost to zero and its profit margins to 100% because now they never have to pay any living musician anything ever again? No session musicians, no lyricists, no recording studios, no demo studios, and eventually and soon, no mixing engineers, no mastering engineers, no producers no nothing. Just a room full of computers and an infinite world of musical garbage.
I hope Jesus comes back to get me before this goes any further.
Seriously.

But tell us what you really feel!  I am afraid I have to agree with you for the most part. Over the past months I seem to be presented with AI song after AI song on both Facebook and YouTube - The algoritum has got me. It is not so much that they are poorly written songs - my major objection is that they present Fake Emotion. I can spot fake emontion in lyrics and arrangement and I too have learned to "hate it!"

I can spot fake emontion in lyrics and arrangement and I too have learned to "hate it!" Amen to that.
