Here’s a remake of a song I wrote a few years ago. This new arrangement is probably a little more romantic than the previous version.
LEONIE'S SONG is dedicated to my wife and features cello, guitar, strings and rhythm section.
I would love to get some feedback on the song, the arrangement and the mix/production.

LEONIE'S SONG

RTs used:
RealDrums-NashPopBallad (Wayne Killius)
Guitar solo: RT3200:Guitar, Electric, Soloist RnBPopBrent Ev 110
For the piano backing, I edited and used (from memory) a selection of:
RT1262: Piano, Rhythm PopShiningHeld Ev 120 (Miles Black); and
RT2263: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm 80sPopMedium Ev 120 (Miles Black)
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi Mike,

You’ve packed a lot into 3 minutes, 3 seconds!! A lot of transitions, which all work and flow well together. Each one of those transitions could be an individual song and developed if you were inclined to do so. The mix is great, no need to change anything to my ears.

Well composed, kind regards.

A lovely, romantic and relaxing song, Mike. It's a great arrangement and I love the instrumentation, though particularly the cello, which is one of my favourite instruments.

Mike, that a fantastic arrangement
Although a lot of different instruments you made them blend into an outstanding instrumental.
Loved it

Thanks K-Dub Ya for your kind comments.
I'm glad you like the transitions because when producing instrumental music, the challenge for me is to keep it interesting and fresh without jarring the vibe too much.
It's also good to read your comments on the mix because my ears aren't what they used to be.
Thanks for listening,
Mike

Beautiful melody, but for my taste a bit too much in so short time, hurrying to the end. Maybe tempo could be slower and less changes in arrangement so one could enjoy more of the melody.

Hey, Mike. This is a pretty advanced composition, and it sounds fabulous All the uncredited instruments sound quite lovely, too.

I can usually distinguish BiaB instruments from using them so much, but this sounds fresh and very un-BiaB-ish to me. Which is all better than fine.

Excellent job here.

Hi Mike.,
Very nice! Lots of variation in your piece to keep my ears alert, yet based on recurring themes. The slow down at the end was unexpected, and made me wonder if it symbolises how we all slow down as we grow older?
Enjoyed it!

Thanks Chay. I appreciate your comments re the song, the arrangement and instrumentation.
I too love the warm, rich sound of the cello. I'm quite impressed with the Kontakt version from Native Instruments which I used for Leonie's Song.
Thanks again,
Mike

You know what's best, Mike. I really like how you say this one is more romantic than the previous version, and it's about your wife. SMILE!

I listened a 3 times. The first was to absorb the feeling, the feeling you put into it and what i got out of it. I melted with the strings, then my ears latched onto the bass and i REALLY loved that ride. By the end i was dancing.

The second and third times were to see if I could come up with some constructive feedback for you. But they both indicated that you are far better than i at mix/production. Arrangement is always a matter of taste and opinions. IN my opinion you have great taste. I really like how you feature each part with the perfect instrument, and how you use dynamics to keep the listener happy. I was happy throghout.

Tell Leonie i said she married the best.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Mike, this song sounds great, but oh, I wished there were vocals in it!
I think your wife would have loved that, depends on which vocals of course. And without these vocals I bet she still loves it a lot.

But the comments above also mean that this is a very beautiful song. I mean the melody and how the cello plays along, just like the guitar solo.
Really well done. But be careful not to use too many instruments in your songs. You see, BiaB really encourages that. Dangerous!!!

A beautiful song.
I like the arrangement changes, which keep it interesting.
I think the calmer, slower mood of the intro conveys the romantic feeling better than the faster rest of the song.
But it's still a beautiful song that definitely deserves a vocal part smile

Thanks Ron. Your comments are much appreciated.
For this track I used Kontakt instruments: cello and strings, grand piano, Prime Bass, and Session Guitarist Picked Acoustic.
So glad you enjoyed Leonie's Song.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
