Be My Reason is an original song I wrote while going through a creative block. As usual, once the 1st lyric is written, the rest of the song comes pouring out. I am but a conduit to a higher song writing power!

In terms of production, I enjoy the simpler Americana styles in the BIAB arsenal, as this more suits my own original style.
I've used _EARLY.STY Early Morning Folk Rock Push for my beds, and in this recording, played a straight ahead rhythm guitar part on my Gibson Tribute Les Paul, which I run through my Yamaha THR10C, into my Allen & Heath ZED 10PX mixer, into my Audacity DAW. My computer is a Lenovo laptop i7.
My vocals are through my AKG C 1000S Austrian made, circa 1987.

I'm still having fun making songs about random thoughts!
BE MY REASON is just such a song.
I shot this video in my studio, live with no overdubs.
I present a performance which is much like a live venue show.

Drew, this is a very good song.
Great vocal and backing tracks
Super mix
By the way you are holding your guitar and your fretting technique I am lead to believe you have had a very good guitar teacher.
An excellent song.

Hi Drew.
Congratulations on doing this on camera.
I play and sing a lot live but feel safer in my small room when recording.
Well done.

Hi Drew!
Good video! I love seeing footage of artists doing their thing. You put a lot of passion into your performance.

I realise this is a live take, but have you considered putting on harmony vocals/BVs in the chorus and do it as a remix? I think it would give the song even more variation and texture.

Good job with the live performance! If you are playing for youtube, that's the way to do it! Good whistling!

Lyrics needed a little work, but I realize you were experimenting with the "random thoughts" concept.

Very engaging performance, Drew. Cool vocals and whistling(!), and your rhythm guitar is keeping it going. Nice use of BiaB backing tracks. Yes, those Americana RealStyles can cover a lot of ground for sure.

BTW, think you meant "SG" instead of "Les Paul". Though of course the SG was originally a redesigned Les Paul, so...all good. smile

Thank you, MarioD!

Your compliments on my guitar technique is the best thing I've read in awhile! I am entirely self taught, and not the most confident of players. I certainly know my limits!!
I'm glad the stripped down backing tracks are doing the job! My last full time band was some years ago, and we were a 3 piece. I really enjoy an uncluttered sound.
Your feedback really makes my day, Mario!

Hi Vic!

Thank you for such great feedback!!

I've got a pretty comfortable setup in my studio, and with decades of live playing and theatre before that, it really feels natural!

I have slowed down a lot re gigging live, so I am really trying to make the most of these 'live' studio recordings.

Thanks again,

drew

Hi Andrew!

Great suggestion re bg's.

I don't like my own bg vox, and I am a bit isolated in my endeavours, however I sometimes do get them right! lol

Thanks for listening, and for your great feedback!

Hi TuneMonger!

My mom said I whistled before I could even talk!!

Yeah, it seems that 'live' unpolished videos are in vogue right now! lol That's right up my street though, as I come from the early days of indie alt rock!

The lyrics I just have to trust my great Provider! hahaha I kinda do a free form and work it back from there. Usually, a song takes about an hour to build a good working skeleton. After that, I have to stop myself from over thinking.

Thanks for great feedback,

drew

Hi DC Ron,

Thanks for correcting me on my guitar type. I bought this Gibson new without knowing too much about the variance in types. It even came with a 'certificate' and photo from the factory!! hahaha

The action is fabulous, and the neck fits my hand so well. I also have a 1935 Gibson L00 in near mint condition. The two guitars play almost exactly the same, i.e. neck and action! I don't really know too much about the various guitar models, but I'm learning more all the time! smile

I very much appreciate your feedback on my singing and playing!

Thanks again, DC Ron

Hi Drew

That’s a really nice song and performance. Loved the opening whistling, wish I could whistle in tune like that. The song is well balanced and I enjoyed the choice of style.

Top job, kind regards.
