Here is another song from my never-got-finished songs folder.

I wrote these lyrics a while ago at the time of one of the Olympic Games. If I recall correctly, the only thing I used to help me with the words was BIAB playing rock drums in the background.

After the lyrics were done, I put the song away until I could find someone to sing in a rock style. That never came to pass. Fortunately, Synthesizer V came along a few years later. So, with the voice called NineZero, I set out to see if I could get the song finished this time around.

This is where I ended up…

Thanks in advance for having a listen. (It sounds best with the volume way up!)

Hi Noel!
I really enjoyed the shift from the verse in the minor to the chorus in the relative major - if that’s what it was - cool anyway. I was trying to work out the instrument playing in between verse and chorus - I couldn’t tell if it was a guitar or synth - but sounded arpeggiated? Nice sounding anyway.
Another piece of positive work from you. I’m intrigued by your inspiration for lyric writing - drums playing in the background - that’s a new one!

Super tune, Noel! LOVE the theme of creating one's own future. An inspirational message, and nicely packaged.

Great arrangement. Like how you saved the backing vocals until later in the song. They add a nice dynamic lift that sees the song through to the end. The backing track is quite nice, too, as is the mix/master.

The vocals are quite serviceable and don't distract from the song or the message. Definitely a great tool to bring these songs to life.

Hey, how deep *IS* that never-got-finished folder??? Would love to hear more. smile

Thanks for being a constant source of positivity here. The world needs more of that, and soon...

Terrific song, Noel! Besides your usual positivity, this had an assertiveness I've not heard in your music before. I can see this being a battle anthem for athletes. Very well done on every level: composition, production, performance. Great work as usual.

Hi Andrew.

Thanks for dropping in smile I appreciate your listen and comments.

The song did indeed go from a verse in A minor to a chorus in C major. The instrument playing between the chorus and the verse is Synthmaster 3. This in a MIDI-driven arpeggiator. A free version of the software comes with BIAB. I've upgraded to Synthmaster 3 which I picked up at a really generous price (they have a few sales throughout the year). There are lots of videos on YouTube about how to use the software if you want ideas for your own songs.

Thanks again for the visit!

I'm unused to the aggression in a Noel song.
It's a fabulous song...I'm not 100% sold on the synth lead vocal though - it's a bit distorted and suitably aggressive.
Cool changes and good band.

Hi Noel

That’s a terrific song. I really like the synthetic effect on a synthetic voice and then you have the normal voicing in the harmony. Flawless, a catchy song worthy of several listens.

Enjoyed listening, a great start to the day. Kind regards.

An aggressive call-to-action song with that Signature Noel Adams positivity... a truly interesting combination.
Good BAND.
Solid mix.
A good write.

Enjoyed that.

Musically a little different from what I've heard from you so far!

I really like what you've done with this, very powerful sound.

Such a good file to get to, Noel. This is another gem for the Finally Finished File (you can add any other word you'd like to the alliteration.

Wow, what a strong song. Right from the first downbeat, it hit me. What a great hook --which can and should be sung be everyone every day. Love the sound of those drums. Masterful production. Much enjoyed, Noel.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Ron.

Thanks for visiting. Thanks for taking time to write your thoughts, too.

I couldn't have easily put this song together without Synth V. I was lucky the program came along. My never-got-finished folder is more like a swamp than deep! I've got lots and lots of things that I started and never managed to finish. Some potential songs are just mapped out ideas and not even a first draft of lyrics. I'm learning that it pays to keep checking on these partial songs from the past, though, because there are some useful ideas there.

I appreciate your kind words smile

Hi Bob.

I appreciate your dropping in. Thank you smile I've learnt that when processing drums, it lifts them if a touch of Waveshaping Distortion is added. I usually use around 10 – 15% but sometimes I use more. It's easy to hear when too much is added, and when the drums become distorted rather than enhanced. A small amount of ordinary distortion can also be used to help add clarity to the drums.

Thank you for your time and your kind words.

This is a great song lyrically (love the theme), musically and production-wise - no faults anywhere - but I wasn't keen on the choice of vocalist. Otherwise brilliant!

Whenever I need a smile, I listen to your songs, Noel.
A beautiful song, written in your usual optimistic style.
Personally, I've never really liked NineZero's voice because it always sounds a bit nasal, but that doesn't change the fact that I like your song.
Still smiling smile

Hi Noel,

What a surprise! At first, I didn't read that you had used AI vocals, so I was expecting a beautiful song with your singing.
And then I had to start over, checking all the sources and your post on the forum again. And now I'm listening to it for the third, uh, fifth time.

Just like Ray, I'm not such a fan of AI vocals, but you chose the right vocals for this very good song.
I think it's great in every way; the song/melody is very good/strong. I also like the chord progressions and the lyrics!
The choruses are so beautiful; that part "Watch me, Just watch me, And see me fly" is great to sing along to. I can do that now, and the other parts too!

Noel, great song. I wish you could sing it like that too. Are you thinking about giving it a try sometime?

Your folder definitely held a gem in this song.
And it’s a rallying cry for us to all get on board the positivity train.

Great group of BiaB session folks.
And an excellent mix.
Sounds great on the monitors.

More please!

Hi Herb.

Thanks for taking time to have a listen. I appreciate it. By the way, just in case I haven't mentioned it before, it was after hearing one of your songs with Synth V that I was inspired to get the software. You opened up doors for me smile and I'm grateful for that.
