Hi All,

Our latest is called Something Small And True.

C’mon baby
Talk to me like you used to
Just let it surprise you
Tell me something small and true

Sometime in our past
And I can’t remember if it was summer
Or just one of those nights that felt like it
We said we were gonna build something
Out of all the junk lying around
You called it a rocket ship
I said it looked more like a lawn chair with ambition
And we sat there anyway
Like we were going somewhere
You never believed it was just for fun
You always thought we’d get burned up
Somewhere past the clouds

C’mon baby
Talk to me like you used to
Just let it surprise you
Tell me something small and true

I took a walk one afternoon
Didn’t tell anybody where I was headed
Ended up in a neighborhood
Where all the houses looked halfway finished
Like people started something
And then just forgot
You found me there
I don’t know how you always did that
Like you had a map
I didn’t know I’d given you
You said, you disappear too easy
I said, yeah… but you always come looking

C’mon baby
Talk to me like you used to

We used to play Bob Dylan
On that old machine that chewed up tapes
“Tangled Up in Blue”
Over and over
You said every song was about leaving
I said that wasn’t true
But I couldn’t point to one
They all seem to stray
You’d hand me back my own words
Like they were something better
Than the way I said them

C’mon baby
Talk to me like you used to
Just let it surprise you
Tell me something small and true

Oh, so good. Bob, you are a superb story teller. And, wow, a great presenter of stories. Lvoe the narrative approach on this one. Joliz's voice is the perfect background for the story and the perfect accompaniment for the chorus.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Great story, 'lawn chair with ambition' really got me. I sure remember Blood on the Tracks, what a resurrection it was for Dylan. Guitar solos were solid, Another good 'un!

Hi Bob and Joliz!
Your songs are like a microscope on the human condition, and you help the listener realise that we can experience the same things but in a different context. I too like the ‘lawn chair with ambition’ line, and also:

‘You said, you disappear too easy
I said, yeah… but you always come looking’

It speaks of being valued as person when another seeks you out, like saying ‘I like being with you’ or ‘I care about you’.

Cool slow burn, Bob. Super vocals by you and Joliz. Love the way the narrative evolves. LOVE your lead guitar work, too.

Crisp mix. Nice arrangement that sustains interest without breaking the hypnotic spell. The unresolved ending is a nice bookend to the opening guitar part.

"...You always come looking."

Ha!

Bob,

The spoken word portion is absolutely wonderful.
The contrast with the singing portion is very effective.
The selection of timbres for each instrument is also superb.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Bob, this is a delightful song, very pretty with the feel of an early 70s song by Kent LaVoie (Lobo). The reflective, pensive, slow melody is lovely and memorable. Lyrically, a touching story. This is one of the few where a spoken part in a song works wonderfully. Vocals are delightfully earthy, like Melanie Safka. Expertly written!

Rob,

Thanks very much. We appreciate the great review.

1975 was a great time for music. I have many favorites from that year.

Hi Bob.
I listen and think, John Prine.
Excellent real life lyric.
I think an acoustic guitar strum would fit right in on the chorus.

Once again, a good story, well told.
And I LOVE all those little details and effects that you and Joliz added to the main instruments.

Brilliant lyrics, brilliantly performed; perfect instrumentation and arrangement, plus brilliant Jo-Jo harmony vocals. Definitely one of your best, Bob!
