AB, like BD said, a very good catchy tune, and interestingly the chord progression and hard lilting melody sound like a Rockabilly structure, yet with synth organ and electric rocking guitars which really updates it and is an intriguing way to arrange it. I really liked listening to it! John
This version of your very nice song, with the harmonies, makes it much nicer. I searched on the forum for that version I comented on, but could,t find it. As I said. This is much more dynamic!
The song is good and I enjoyed it. Although it is legal to copy song titles, this title by Walk the Moon from 2014 is so distinctive and such a huge hit that, personally, I would not have done it. But not a big deal here on the forum.

Quite the can of worms about song titles, though not as much as similar or exact melodies. Song titles and phrases could fit well as a songwriting topic and for reasons of being able to distinguish yourself from another artist, finding a unique title would be something you'd want to do. There are some instances that defy that as everything in entertainment is fickle. Shortly after the Eagles had a #1 hit with "Best of My Love," so did the Emotions with the same title." Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds had a #1 with "Games People Play." When the Spinners released "Games People Play," they were challenged with the title so they changed it to "They Just Can't Stop It." The Copyright Office declared a song title cannot be registered as a copyright. Joe South and the Alan Parsons Project also had songs titled, "Games People Play." Brian Wilson objected to Katy Perry's "California Gurls" but there wasn't anything he could do about it. There are artists who purposefully avoided the same title as not to be confused. The Cowsills, "Rain, Park and Other Things" was originally tilted "The Flower Girl." to avoid confusion with Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)". I think there was another artist, Paula Abdul, who had an album called "Shut Up and Dance." I would personally base it on how unique a title is. I'd be okay with "Dance With Me" but I wouldn't name a song, "A Horse With No Name."
Yeah TuneMonger, I was struggling back then with my music. I could only play guitar (which wasn't that great) and harmonica (which was good), but I had no idea how to produce my music.
Nor had I the resources. And trying to convince anyone that my "folksy" songs were really good pop songs was, well, difficult. Oh, to have had I BIAB back then! AurealiusB

I remember well what a struggle it was to make a decent demo back then. All of my friends and I had demos but we hadn't a clue how to get them in the right hands. BIAB is indeed a miraculous solution, but has anyone made a commercially successful song with it? I'm not aware of one, does anyone know?. I gotta believe someday it will happen. We'll see.

That sounds so familiar TuneMonger. A very good friend of mine and I also struggled to get decent demos (way back when). BIAB would have helped tremendously for sure!
I wonder too if a commercially successful song ever used BIAB. But at least today we can easily make very professional sounding demos.
The title automatically brought up the Gladys Knight and the Pips line "And if you like the music get up and dance", though yours is a very different song (tempo, style, etc). But a great dance song!
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
WaoBand, Thank you so much for your positive posting! And yes, this is a good song to dance to. As they (long ago) used to say on American Bandstand, "it's gotta good beat."
I grew up listening to Gladys Knight and the Pips. Motown music definitely influenced my songwriting. Also, once again Kathy used interesting imagery weaving dance lyrics into a relationship theme.
Thanks so much Mario! Yes, I wanted to create a great dance groove for Kathy's lyrics.
As for your question: I don't know, Kathy was probably rhyming with the word "pants".
From the Build lyrics leading to the Chorus: You talk about the girls wearing black leather pants, You talk about the Russians I bet you talk to your plants! We still got the time, give me a chance, Baby won’t you . . shut up and dance, I wish that you would . . shut up and dance.
The song also appears to describe, at least partly, a person who talks a lot (in a humorous way of course!).
