BIAB 2026 Audiophile using Windows 11 REAPER (latest version)
Hi AurealiusB! Not sure if I listened to the version you wanted us to, but I listened to this … YouTube - She’s my woman
Good shift to Fm for the chorus - that made me sit up and take notice - and steel drums always provides a happy disposition. It took me a while to warm up to the tempo changes, but they certainly caught my attention. Well done. Andrew
Hi Andrew, Yes, that is the correct version. I've now added the link to the top of the post (my mistake earlier).
So far this was the hardest song for me to produce. Written in the early 1980s, I performed this on an acoustic guitar. However, I thought the melody sort of fit a Calypso style of music. Thus years later, this is what I created in BIAB.
There are a several of tempo changes. First, the intro slows down gradually to set up the first verse, which tempo-wise is a very fast 176 BPM.
I wanted to slow down for the bridge - so that is other major temp change - down to 130 BPM. But again, I made a gradual slow down in a few steps.
Finally, I speeded everything up for the last verse which had a tempo of 178 BPM.
So, I did this to make the song sound more like what a real band would to. Bands and orchestras often do this. I think it makes the song more interesting.
Hey A, that's a delightful tune! Really delightful! Light with a lilting melody. I like the shift to a minor chord in the chorus which gives the song just enough sweetness but not too much! It has the happiness of Firefall's "You Are the Woman." The tropical feel is a nice touch. It's like a song you'd hear on the car radio while driving the Coast Highway alongside the beaches...a good summer song. Kathy is a very good lyricist. John
Good song, good vox, good use of BIAB. I LOVED the steel drums, really added to the flavor of the piece! My own experience with large tempo changes hasn't gone well, but there are surely others with more skill at BIAB than me who have made it work. I was a bit on the fence with the tempo changes in this song, but it may sound fine with repeated listenings (once my ears and brain are used to it). Overall, though, a very good submission and I really enjoyed it!
