I've posted before about my use of the tiny IPOD-TOUCH, downloading BIAB real tracks/real drums, the Electronic Jazz Fakebook and accompanying hit MP3's, using the new ITOUCH or IPAD TABLET "COMPUTERS" as gig-appropriate or practice-appropriate tools. Both Logic Pro, Akai samples, Mainstage etc., are available as software for this new wave of presenting complex music compositions, classical or jazz. Much can be accomplished via home computer, USB Hub connections into the portable Apple hardware. And much is in the offering, musically speaking, for the future "tablature" of advanced computer tablet products now and to come. I only hope that BIAB might see the financial benefits of an Apple-approved software program for the brand new 'TOUCHY-FEELY computers, as they have for other BIAB Mac user-friendly software!! http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec07/articles/mainstage.htmhttp://www.apple.com/logicstudio/logicpro/http://www.macworld.com/article/150427/2010/04/ipad_as_ipod.html"I've found the future, and it is HERE.....almost!!!"... Gdaddy, +1 to everything you wrote!! Yes, the iPad/iTouch will improve, things will get easier, and I really hope Peter Gannon decides to get on this new bandwagon of portable apps. BIAB on the iTouch would sell thousands of copies and expose the genius of this program to millions who otherwise would never know about PG music. Speaking of Music apps for iPad, check this out from IK Multimedia> http://www.groovemaker.com/products/C'mon PG music, build a better mousetrap!!!! Ed

Another possible application for iPhone/iPodTouch/iPad, is VNC.
I haven't had time to investigate VNC and really do not have the need for it, but it apparently can turn an iPodTouch or iPad into a big wireless remote.
Here are some comments (from another forum) from a fellow explaining it for remote-computer-control of astronomy software, but it ought to in principle work the same way for Music. Imagine having the PC running Band-in-a-Box, controlled from an iPad on the music stand, wirelessly mirroring the chord sheet or notation view. Maybe it wouldn't work out, but then again, dunno why not--
The fellow's comments-- "I've used an iPod touch to remotely operate TheSky, but the small screen was tough for me to see without a lot of magnification. My setup is RealVNC running on the observatory PC and the Mocha VNC client on the iPod. Mocha displays the screen on the remote PC and has an on screen mouse pointer with left/right buttons for selections and it uses the iPod's virtual keyboard for text inputs. "
"The new iPad has a huge display compared to the touch, and it looks like an ideal walk-around remote control with no moving parts or dangling cables."
"James C Chandler Jr said: It is neat that someone wrote an iPod app to do something so specialized."
"Actually there are at least five VNC apps for the iPhone now, and they all do a decent job of showing the display on the remote PC. Most VNC users are people who manage IT sites with dozens or even hundreds of servers. With an iPhone VNC app they can pop on the network from almost anywhere to check server logs and keep tabs on any that are off-line."
"I like Mocha VNC because it has a virtual two-button mouse and TheSky6 needs it. All iPhone apps will run on the iPad now, but a developers kit released Tuesday allows creation of apps specifically for its larger display and additional features."

How about a sheet music / chart display app for the iPad? Perhaps that already exists, I don't know - but that would be way cool to put up on a music stand and just go. I know there are dedicated readers for stuff like that, but incorporated into the iPad it would be possibly justifiable along with other music apps.

Great idea, Scott. I have the real book on my IPhone, but of course I can't use it on a gig, but it's great for a quick reference. To have an app like that on the Ipad would be enough reason for me to buy one, especially if you could enter your own charts into it. Maybe Sibelius or Finale will come up with an app one of these days, if they don't already have one.

The showed a doc in the US using one remotely on wireless to view patients xrays while doing back surgery. He had a lot of other stuff on it.
My friend runs the pharmacy for the local hospital(s). (There are 4 under the same hospital board and 340 or so pharmacists.
He had the entire drug data base on a blackberry, then moved it to an Iphone. He claims to like both.
Lots of competition coming including pc based, and linux versions.
