Hello everyone. I’ve been away for a while. Health is precious, so that’s why I was absent for a bit. But here I am with a new song, which I’ve been working on for a while, and a music video. But also because of that first line here. Anyway, the song is about the dilemmas you might face when you have three wishes at your disposal. What would you use them for? For everyone, for yourself, or...? Well, it eventually became "or...". For the music video, I made use of the so-called Kent Burns technique. That means zooming in and out on images, making it look like the image is moving. Chat GPT pointed me to this method. But I had to learn it in a program called DaVinci Resolve. It wasn't easy to learn that program. The video you see is also my very first one done that way and in that program. I’m sure it could have been better, but judge for yourself! Hello, Hans. This sounds very polished. The video is effective too. I used to do a lot of video editing on windows 7 but the software wouldn't work when I changed to Windows 10 so gave it up. When my brother and I were kids we used to talk a lot about having wishes and what we would wish for. It was usually toy soldiers who could move on their own or loads of cash.  Well done. Vic

Hi Hans! Good to have you back and hearing your songs again. A very interesting theme that many of us can relate to. I know from my own recent experiences, we don’t want our own health to be a worry for those around us, as you have shown it can be.
Good arrangement, with a surprise here and there. Great BVs!
I love the ‘sign’ at the end of the video - giving hope of a good outcome. The zooming in and out works well for creating movement and focus of the viewers attention. I find that working on a video to support my music often makes me think deeper about my lyrics and what I am trying to say, and sometimes makes me think of a different perspective. I hope you enjoyed this new perspective of your creative process.

It is so good to hear from you, and more importantly,
I hope you are feeling much better now. Health always comes first.
I just listened to the new song and watched the video,
and I am honestly blown away. The music is absolutely beautiful,
and the lyrical concept behind the three wishes is incredibly thought-provoking.
That final "or..." twist really makes the listener stop and think.
As for the music video, you should be incredibly proud of yourself.
DaVinci Resolve has a massive learning curve,
and mastering the Ken Burns technique for the first time is no small feat.
The subtle panning and zooming create a beautiful,
cinematic flow that complements the emotional depth of the track perfectly.
For your very first attempt, the execution is fantastic—do not underestimate your work!
It is wonderful to have you back making music.
Keep up the amazing work!

I hope things are okay now for either you or your loved one, there was some uncertainty about that in your post. As you said, health comes first. Song was good and demonstrated just how much we can care for those close to us. I couldn't learn Resolve, it was too hard for me. I use Vegas, which is made by the same company that makes my DAW. So a lot of concepts transfer over, and that makes it easy for me. Nice job on the vid and the song, so good to hear you in the swing of things again. Keep up the good work!

Welcome back! First off, I'm genuinely glad to hear you're on the mend—health truly is precious, even if it occasionally interferes with songwriting.
Let’s talk about "Three Wishes." If I’ve decoded your moral dilemma correctly, The planet’s a bit of a fixer-upper right now, but the brave new world is just going to have to wait. Why? Because you bravely, noble-heartedly, and completely unselfishly transferred all three of your magical get-out-of-jail-free wishes to a loved one whose delicate health is on the line.
That is top-tier boyfriend/friend material right there. Though I do have to ask: who on earth was that mysterious disappearing person with the bag of money and the yacht? Because if they were one of the wishes, I feel like you might have missed an opportunity for yourself! You’ve definitely left us on a cliffhanger as to whether the magic actually pans out.
That said, the song skips along at a rather chirpy 110 BPM, so I am officially choosing radical optimism. Surely, with a tempo that upbeat, the lovely lady is going to make a full recovery thanks to your holy trinity of benevolent wishes. With that rich Band-in-a-Box indie-folk-worship groove rolling along, how could the universe say no?
Lyrically, can we just take a moment to appreciate the line, "I wish that when you open your eyes, you see me seeing you." Beautiful stuff, Hans.
As for your maiden voyage into the terrifying waters of DaVinci Resolve using the "Ken Burns" technique—bravo! It’s a very clever visual trick. I loved how you’d cut away to the lady lying on her sickbed during the relevant lyrics, only to ruthlessly snap back to the opening city landscape like it was holding the entire space-time continuum together while the wishes were being cashed in.
Overall, this scores exceptionally high on every level: production, story, and vocals (and props to you for keeping it 100% human-voiced, effects aside).
Consider this my formal petition for a sequel, Hans. We need to know if the yacht happened, and more importantly, if she got better!

Vic Hi Vic, thanks for your kind reaction to the song. Normally you always have some criticism of (part of) my songs, but not this time! So I’ve achieved something unexpected ;-) While I was struggling with that DaVinci Resolve video program, I noticed that more and more AI-driven video programs were coming onto the market and if you believe them, it’s now a piece of cake to even make a feature film... So Vic, here is your chance!!! I don't really believe it yet. I think it remains human work, too.

Andrew Hi Andrew, thanks so much for everything you wrote! Yes, health is sometimes a problem. Fortunately, not always. But it was a coincidence that this theme also came back in my song. I wanted to create a story in which dilemmas, choices, selfishness, and so on, play a role in someone's head. And love and hope. I couldn't sing about that finger (at the end of the video), but I could try to get her out of that coma in the song. In reality, I don't know anyone around me who is in a coma, thank God. I just like to follow my imagination. As for the video: Funnily enough, it was ChatGPT that pointed me to that technique... But be glad you didn't see my frustrations and the swear words I uttered while trying to learn that program and that Kent Burns effect. Hans

I'm having a summer break, nut now it's a rainy day perfect to listen to your songs. For some reason your song reminded me about the Rolling Stones (at their best) - and that's a credit. Wild Horses? I don't feel at home commenting the lyrics, so it was the music that I liked.

Excellent, Hans. The way you develop your songs is worthy of being taught in college courses. I've already told you how much i like this one, AND the one you're making now is really over-the-top good. Can't wait to see it here. AND can't wait for the video youmake for it. But i'm getting ahead of myself --or ahead of you.
Love the video for this one. i have to make my own Ken Burns effect and it's a PITA. Nice to have Davinci help. Looks great. Now i'm listening on Soundcloud where i say the music sounds better.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums).
